Johnson collected eight tackles (all solo) in Monday's game against the Packers.
While he again finished with single digits, Johnson did become the Chiefs' all-time leader in tackles, having topped 1,000 for his career. He did lead the Chiefs in tackles Monday, and should continue to rack up tackles as the season progresses.

Johnson compiled eight tackles (six solo) and one sack Sunday against the Texans.
Johnson's 2014 season ended prematurely due to an Achilles' tear, but he's started the 2015 campaign out strong. The 32-year-old linebacker doesn't typically pile up sacks, but he has collected nearly 100 tackles in each of his past four full seasons.

Johnson (knee) appeared to be a full participant in Thursday's practice, the Kansas City Star reports.
Johnson has missed portions of the Chiefs' offseason program due to an inflamed knee, but his participation Tuesday in individual drills forecast a return to full health. With OTAs wrapping up Friday, the inside linebacker appears good to go for the start of mandatory mincamp this Tuesday.

Johnson (knee) returned to practice Tuesday but didn't take part in team drills, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Expect precaution to reign over Johnson's availability in offseason drills due to knee inflammation, which has been reported as afflicting the same leg that suffered a torn Achilles last season, according to Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star. Johnson's health will be watched closely as the offseason program progresses.

Johnson missed practice both Tuesday and Wednesday due to knee inflammation, the Kansas Ciy Star reports.
Johnson's absence is probably precautionary to avoid a long-term issue, but it's something worth keeping an eye on as the offseason progresses to ensure nothing worse comes of the situation.

Johnson (Achilles) indicated Monday that he has no limitations heading into offseason workouts, Adam Teicher of ESPN reports.
Johnson entered the offseason as a potential candidate for release, but he will rejoin the Chiefs for the 2015 season. The 32-year-old linebacker tore his Achilles in the first week last season, finishing the campaign with four solo tackles. He should slot back in at inside next season barring another injury.

Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt hinted that Johnson (Achilles) will be back with the team in 2015, the Kansas City Star reports.
As a 32-year-old linebacker coming off a major injury for a cap-strapped team, Johnson was arguably a candidate to be released. The Chiefs apparently have no such plans, which isn't shocking once you consider how effective Johnson has been when healthy. Assuming he's ready for Week 1, Johnson will be a strong candidate to record triple-digit tackles for a fifth time in six seasons. He suffered the torn Achilles in Week 1 of 2014, so he'll be a full year removed from the injury.
Wed Sep 10 201411:22Johnson (achilles) placed on injured reserve Tuesday
Johnson (achilles) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, the Kansas City Star reports.
Once Johnson's achilles tear was confirmed, it was only a matter of time before he was moved to injured reserve. He and Joe Mays were expected to start at inside linebacker coming into the season, but both went down with injuries and now the Chiefs are left with Josh Mauga and James-Michael Johnson. The team added Jerry Franklin from the practice squad to add depth in the linebacking corps.

Johnson is confirmed to have suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during Sunday's regular season opener against the Titans.
Johnson is now expected to miss the remainder of this season. With three career Pro Bowl appearances and 484 total tackles over the past four seasons, Johnson is among the league's best linebackers and his absence represents a huge blow to the Chiefs' defense. Furthermore, with Joe Mays (elbow) out, Kansas City's starting inside linebackers currently project to be Josh Mauga and James-Michael Johnson, a pair of unproven players that could cause the Chiefs to explore free agency for alternatives.

Johnson is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles tendon during Sunday's regular season opener, potentially ruling him out for the year, NFL.com reports.
Johnson already being sidelined for the remainder of this season represents a massive blow to the Chiefs' defense. Not only is Johnson a three-time Pro-Bowler with four consecutive 100-plus tackle seasons, but Kansas City is also without fellow inside linebacker Joe Mays (wrist). Given that unfortunate scenario, James-Michael Johnson figures to be forced into extended playing time moving forward, with a free agent signing also a possibility for the Chiefs in the coming weeks.

Johnson suffered an Achilles injury during Sunday's regular season opener against the Titans and will not return, ESPN reports.
Johnson posted four tackles (all solo) prior to exiting Sunday's game. Although the extent of his injury has yet to be determined, the three-time Pro-Bowler being sidelined represents a significant concern for the Chiefs. With him out, James-Michael Johnson should see increased snaps with Kansas City's first-team defense at inside linebacker.
Sun Sep 2 201213:24Chiefs confident Johnson will play Week 1
The Chiefs are confident ILB Derrick Johnson (ankle) will be available for their Week 1 game against Atlanta.
They're "hopeful" about LCB Brandon Flowers (heel), as well, but not as optimistic about FS Kendrick Lewis (shoulder). A star on the inside of Romeo Crennel's 3-4, Johnson amassed 131 tackles, two sacks, and two interceptions last season. The 29-year-old Johnson hasn't missed a game since the '09 season.

Fri Aug 31 201200:44Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson injures ankle
Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson suffered an ankle injury that "could be significant" in Thursday's preseason finale.
Backup QB Brady Quinn also left with an injury that could be significant, which might spur GM Scott Pioli to seek a much-needed upgrade. If Johnson joins pass rusher Tamba Hali (suspension) on the sidelines next week, the Falcons offense will get a significant matchup boost.

Tue Jan 3 201200:26Derrick Johnson had big 2011 season
Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson set a franchise record with 179 tackles in 2011 and made his first career Pro Bowl.
The NFL credited Johnson with 131 tackles, so this stat was via the team's counting. He was also voted by teammates as the Chiefs' MVP. "It will be hard to do that again next year with Jamaal (Charles) coming back," Johnson joked. Pro Football Focus graded Johnson as the NFL's fourth-best 3-4 inside linebacker, behind only NaVorro Bowman, Brian Cushing, and Patrick Willis.

Fri Dec 24 201010:52Derrick Johnson coming off monster game
Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson recorded a career-high 17 tackles while knocking down four passes against the Rams in Week 15.
Coach Todd Haley was abnormally effusive in praise, calling it a "true all-pro effort" while citing Johnson as the "epitome" of what the Chiefs are trying to build. Johnson was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the effort. He also merits strong consideration for the Pro Bowl as the well as the All-Pro team.

Sat Nov 6 201009:53Derrick Johnson has interception woes
Derrick Johnson has dropped 3 interceptions through his first 7 games in 2010.
Johnson has one pick on the year, but he's dropped some potential game changers. Says Johnson, "I always thought I had pretty good hands. I still do." It's hard to judge a linebacker's play simply on interceptions, and Johnson has a team high 57 tackles. The former high school wideout is currently playing for a long-term contract.

Fri Nov 5 201013:57Report: Chiefs to extend ILB Derrick Johnson
Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports that the Chiefs plan to sign ILB Derrick Johnson to a lucrative extension.
"He's not going anywhere," writes Robinson. Johnson was buried in Todd Haley's doghouse as a backup, nickel linebacker for all of last season, but he's emerged as an every-down player under new defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel. Johnson, who turns 28 later this month, is in the final year of his rookie contract. He was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2005 draft.

Tue Sep 7 201009:30Johnson beats out Williams for ILB job
Derrick Johnson has beaten out Demorrio Williams for one of the starting inside linebacker spots for the Chiefs.
The other inside linebacker starting spot also appears to have been decided, as Jovan Belcher has been picked over Corey Mays. Johnson has been a big disappointment in Kansas City but still has a lot of ability. Williams is likely to replace Johnson on passing downs.
