Lions CB Chris Greenwood underwent sports-hernia surgery during the offseason.
Greenwood (6-foot-1, 193) has been sidelined at OTAs. The Lions' official website pegged the 2012 fifth-rounder as a potential breakout candidate last month. Especially after the Lions failed to address the cornerback position for the most part, Greenwood could take on a bigger role. He should be ready for camp.

MLive.com doesn't expect Lions CB Chris Greenwood to be in the mix for a starting job this season.
GM Martin Mayhew has called Greenwood a player with "starting potential," but the 2012 fifth-rounder missed his entire rookie season with an abdominal injury. The Lions are sorting through Greenwood, Darius Slay, Bill Bentley, Jonte Green and Ron Bartell opposite Chris Houston. No. 36 pick Slay is likely the Lions' preferred choice.

Lions CB Chris Greenwood expects to compete for a starting job this season.
A fifth-round pick last spring, Greenwood missed his entire rookie year as he recovered from abdominal surgery. It would be far from ideal for the Lions if they entered Week 1 with Greenwood starting opposite Chris Houston.

Sat Jan 26 201315:28'Lofty expectations' for Lions CB Greenwood
DetroitLions.com says there are "some lofty expectations being floated around" the organization for CB Chris Greenwood next season.
Greenwood missed his entire rookie season in 2012 after undergoing abdominal surgery. The fifth-round pick out of D-III Albion has an intriguing blend of size (6-foot-2) and speed (4.42) that had DC Gunther Cunningham comparing him to Brandon Carr after the 2012 draft. The Lions have four corners set to be free agents this offseason, so Greenwood could be in for a big role in 2013.

Wed Aug 15 201216:28Chris Greenwood to open season on PUP
Lions rookie CB Chris Greenwood (abdominal surgery) is expected to open the season on the reserve/PUP list.
Greenwood is a raw fifth-round pick out of Albion College, so the Lions weren't counting on him for much first-year impact anyway. He's been slow to recover from a May surgery. Greenwood could be activated from reserve/PUP by Week 8. He'll be out for the first six games, and the Lions have a Week 5 bye.

Lions rookie CB Chris Greenwood remains sidelined from training camp following May surgery to repair a lower abdominal tear.
Coach Jim Schwartz offered no timetable for return. Greenwood has long-term promise as a long young corner with speed to match up against big, tall wide receivers, but he's not going to make an early impact in Detroit's secondary.

Mon Jul 23 201214:06Rookie CB Greenwood recovering from surgery
Lions fifth-round CB Chris Greenwood is recovering from surgery to repair a torn lower abdomen muscle.
Greenwood suffered the injury during a May OTAs session, and missed minicamp as a result. He'll begin training camp on the active/PUP list. Greenwood is unsure of when he'll be able to resume practicing. "I'm rehabbing now and running and jogging and hopefully I'll be back sooner rather than later." The injury severely dampens Greenwood's chances of earning a starting job opposite Chris Houston.

Mon Jun 25 201219:01Chris Greenwood dealing with injury
Lions fifth-round CB Chris Greenwood (undisclosed) "should" be ready for training camp.
Greenwood wasn't known to be hurt, but apparently "missed a lot of time in the offseason." The Lions traded up to select Greenwood with the No. 148 pick, so his roster spot should be secure. However, missing the beginning of camp would likely leave him as a game-day inactive for at least the first few weeks of the season.
