Bentley (knee) suffered a torn ACL during Monday night's Week 1 win and will now miss the remainder of this season, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Bentley was slated for a significant role as one of the Lions' top three cornerbacks this season, but will now undergo season-ending surgery and focus on the rehab process. When Bentley went down during Monday night's game, rookie Nevin Lawson filled his nickel position to decent success, with Cassius Vaughn only featuring on special teams. Nonetheless, it wouldn't be surprising if the Lions opted to add another member to their secondary following Bentley's unfortunate injury.
Thu Jun 26 201414:16Bill Bentley to open season as slot corner
Bill Bentley is expected to open the season as the Lions' slot corner.
He'll be the nickel back between Rashean Mathis and Darius Slay, likely holding off rookie Nevin Lawson. Bentley has zero INTs through 17 NFL games, and also struggles in coverage. Due to secondary deficiencies, the Lions will be putting a lot of pressure on their front four to generate pass rush this year. Mathis is entering his age-34 campaign, and Slay played poorly in 2013.

Sun Oct 27 201314:52Bill Bentley leaves game with knee injury
Lions CB Bill Bentley was forced from Sunday's game against the Cowboys with a left knee injury, and is questionable to return.
Bentley's injury didn't appear overly serious, but he's been sidelined since early in the first half after testing out his knee on the sidelined. His afternoon is likely through. Darius Slay is now in the game opposite Chris Houston, with Rashean Mathis manning the slot.

Mon Jun 24 201310:18Schwartz: Bentley has improved technique
Lions coach Jim Schwartz says second-year CB Bill Bentley has "really improved his technique."
A 2012 third-rounder, a shoulder injury limited Bentley to just four games as a rookie. "You know, even when we had him last year early in camp, he was a playmaker," Schwartz said. "He got his hands on balls. He plays with a lot of spirit." Bentley is competing with second-rounder Darius Slay for a starting job opposite Chris Houston, but MLive.com considers him a better bet for nickel duties.

Wed Jun 12 201316:54Lions CB Bentley continues to flash
Lions CB Bill Bentley has continued to stand out in minicamp.
Bentley has been competing with Ronald Bartell for the No. 2 cornerback job opposite Chris Houston. The Detroit News and MLive.com consider Bentley the favorite to earn the job. He has the versatility to cover the slot in nickel packages with Bartell filling his spot on the outside.

Sat Jun 8 201322:29Bill Bentley could at right cornerback
The Detroit News considers Bill Bentley the favorite for the Lions' No. 2 cornerback job.
Bentley started the first three games of his rookie season before he was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. Ronald Bartell and Chris Houston have worked as the Lions' first-team corners throughout OTAs, but Bentley should emerge as the leading candidate to start at right cornerback. Second-round pick Darius Slay is recovering from knee surgery and is not expected to be available until August.

Lions second-year CB Bill Bentley is rehabbing from surgery on both shoulders.
Bentley had surgery on his right shoulder in November and an arthroscopic procedure on his left shoulder in January. The Detroit Free Press expects Bentley to be the Lions' nickel back this season behind Darius Slay and Chris Houston.

Sun May 5 201312:44Bill Bentley projected as Lions' slot corner
The Lions' website tentatively projects 2012 third-round pick Bill Bentley as the team's nickel back this season.
Rookie Darius Slay is the favorite to man right corner, and Chris Houston is locked in on the left. In nickel packages, Bentley would replace a linebacker and cover opposing slot receivers. Bentley is recovering from two surgeries to repair a dislocated shoulder. He's expected to be healthy for training camp.

Fri Feb 22 201307:00Bill Bentley undergoes 2nd shoulder surgery
Lions CB Bill Bentley underwent a second surgery this offseason to repair his dislocated shoulder.
Bentley's initial surgery took place in November, and it sounds like he had another in late January or February. He still figures to be ready for 2013 training camp, barring another setback. A third-round pick last April, Bentley flashed ball-hawking ability as a rookie but didn't cover at a starting-caliber level.

Thu Nov 1 201211:15Bill Bentley lands on IR
Lions placed CB Bill Bentley (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Bentley went down against the Eagles in Week 6 and it appears he'll need surgery. The Lions will move forward with Chris Houston and Jacob Lacey as their starting corners. Bentley, a third-round rookie, should be healed in plenty of time for the offseason program.

Wed Oct 17 201220:14Lions CB Bentley (shoulder) unsure for Monday
Lions CB Bill Bentley (shoulder) felt better on Wednesday but is still "unsure" for Monday night against the Bears.
Bentley was injured against the Eagles in Week 6, as was fellow corner Jacob Lacey (concussion). Detroit has an extra day to prepare and rest up, but this could pose an issue. With Alshon Jeffery (broken right hand) out for the Bears, Brandon Marshall is the only legitimate threat in the Chicago passing attack. The Lions won't practice until Thursday, so we should know more tomorrow.

Mon Oct 15 201214:43Bill Bentley dealing with shoulder injury
Lions CB Bill Bentley suffered a shoulder injury in Detroit's Week 6 win over the Eagles.
Coach Jim Schwartz was predictably unforthcoming with details, saying the team would "wait and see" on Bentley's status. It's an issue because Jacob Lacey went down with a concussion against the Eagles. The Lions could be extremely shorthanded at cornerback against the Bears next Monday night.

Thu Sep 20 201216:53Lions CB Bentley cleared for contact
Lions CB Bill Bentley (concussion) was cleared for contact Thursday.
It was Bentley's first concussion. "Little weird," Bentley said of sitting out Week 2. "It was just a normal concussion. They were just playing it on the safe side. They just felt it was in my best interests to sit out last week."

Sun Sep 9 201215:44Rookie Bentley leaves game with head injury
Lions CB Bill Bentley left Sunday's game with a possible concussion, and is questionable to return.
Bentley is officially "questionable," but his afternoon is almost certainly through. The No. 85 pick was seeing major time on the outside with LCB Chris Houston sidelined with an ankle injury. Detroit is now rolling with Drayton Florence, Jacob Lacey and rookie Jonte Green at cornerback.

Fri Sep 7 201218:17Lions to start Bentley and Lacey at corner
The Lions are expected to start rookie Bill Bentley and Jacob Lacey in Week 1 against the Rams, with Drayton Florence in the nickel.
Florence will cover the slot (Danny Amendola) on passing downs. It's got to be the weakest-looking cornerback package in the league, at least for this week, and arguably secondary as a whole with FS Louis Delmas (knee) not playing. Bentley did flash playmaking ability in preseason, but he hadn't won a starting job outright until the Lions lost LCB Chris Houston (ankle).

Thu Aug 23 201208:50Bill Bentley still battling with Lacey
The Lions still haven't decided who will be their starting right cornerback.
Third-round rookie Bill Bentley started the first preseason game and veteran Jacob Lacey got the nod last week. The Lions haven't named a starter for the third tuneup yet. Either way, we'd be surprised if they improved significantly on their 22nd-ranked pass defense from a year ago. Aaron Berry was penciled in as right corner, but the Lions were forced to cut him after numerous off-field issues.

Thu Aug 9 201213:17Rookie CB Bentley starting opposite Houston
Third-round CB Bill Bentley is expected to start opposite Chris Houston in the Lions' first exhibition game.
Bentley has enjoyed a "consistently good camp" lining up with the first-team defense after the release of veteran Aaron Berry. It's a good sign that the rookie is ahead of nickel candidates Jacob Lacey and Alphonso Smith, though the Lions still figure to be a plus matchup for opposing fantasy receivers.

Wed Jun 6 201200:17Dwight Bentley ahead of fellow Lions rookies
Lions third-round CB Dwight Bentley is "clearly ahead" of fellow rookie CBs Chris Greenwood and Jonte Green at OTAs.
It's the way it's supposed to be, seeing as Bentley was the highest draft pick. "(Bentley) looks like a polished college player, much better than I anticipated," DC Gunther Cunningham conceded. Bentley is competing with Jacob Lacey for Lions nickel back duties. Chris Houston and Aaron Berry are starting.
