Sun Sep 13 201517:35Coples recorded fumble recovery and tackle Sunday against Browns
Coples recorded a fumble recovery and a tackle Sunday against the Browns.
Although he had a fairly-quiet day, he was in the right place when Trevor Riley forced a fumble that Coples was able to recover in the fourth quarter.
Mon Aug 24 201517:54Coples expected to rush pass more often than he has in past
Coples is expected to rush the pass more often than he has in the past, the New York Post reports.
Coples was frequently used in coverage when playing for former head coach Rex Ryan, but he'll be used as a pass rusher in new head coach Todd Bowles' system. He hasn't posted more than 6.5 sacks in any season, but he'll be placed in a position in which he could be able to exceed that total this year.

The Jets will pick up the fifth-year option on Coples' rookie contract, the New York Daily News reports.
Coples has always been a player more about potential than results, and that hasn't really changed in his three NFL seasons. He reached a career-high 6.5 sacks in 2014, but the Jets likely had finer results in mind when they selected him 16th overall in the 2012 draft. Still, Coples is an uncommon athletic talent and won't be 25 until June, so the Jets have reason to give him another year.
Sun Jul 20 201411:03Quinton Coples dropped weight in offseason
Jets OLB Quinton Coples dropped about 15 pounds and is playing in 270-275 range.
Coples entered the league as a hand-in-the-dirt defensive end, but made the transition to stand-up edge rusher last season. He generated just 4.5 sacks. The Jets are now looking for a breakout season from the third-year pro. He already plays above-average run defense, but Coples needs to find the quarterback more, especially with bookend Calvin Pace nearing the end of the line at age 33.

Sun May 4 201410:25Coples 'testing the patience' of Jets' staff
ESPN New York reports Jets OLB Quinton Coples has been "testing the patience of the coaches from the day he arrived."
This comes on the heels of a quote from former Jets great and analyst Joe Kelcko, who said Coples "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane." Per beat writer Rich Cimini, the frustration level with Coples inside the organization is high. Coples, the 16th pick in the 2012 draft, made the switch to outside linebacker from end last season. He has just ten sacks through two years but plays stout run defense.

Jets OLB Quinton Coples (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 3.
Coples' return upgrades arguably the NFL's most underrated defense. He'll give the Jets some pass-rushing juice as a movable "end-backer" chess piece.

Mon Sep 2 201315:57Quinton Coples won't play in Week 1
Jets coach Rex Ryan confirmed OLB Quinton Coples (ankle) will not play in Week 1 against the Bucs.
Coples is due back early in the season, but there's still no concrete timetable for his return. If Doug Martin's fantasy owners were concerned about him missing LG Carl Nicks (toe), Coples' absence evens things out. There won't be three better Week 1 fantasy running back plays across the league than Martin.

Sun Aug 18 201320:03Jets OLB Quinton Coples needs ankle surgery
Jets OLB Quinton Coples will undergo "a procedure" on his fractured ankle Tuesday and is done for the preseason.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Coples is "out indefinitely." The initial timeline was 3-4 weeks for Coples' return, but that was assuming he'd avoid surgery. He's probably not going to be ready for Week 1. If not, Antwan Barnes and Calvin Pace will open the season as the Jets' starting linebackers. It's a big blow to Rex Ryan's defense because Coples has terrific versatility.

Fri Aug 9 201310:23Quinton Coples 'key' to Jets defense?
According to ESPN New York, the "feeling around the (Jets)" is that second-year OLB Quinton Coples is the "key" to the defense.
The idea being that, if Coples shines in his transition to outside linebacker, the Jets could have a pretty good unit on their hands. Per reporter Rich Cimini, Coples has had a "quiet camp," and the coaching staff wants him to play with a "greater sense of urgency." Per Pro Football Focus, Coples generated just 14 hurries in 516 snaps as a rookie.

Sat Jul 27 201319:38Coples 'making strides' at outside linebacker
The Newark Star-Ledger reports Quinton Coples is "making strides" in his transition to outside linebacker.
Coples was strictly a defensive end as a rookie, but is converting to a stand-up edge rusher in the Jets' base defense. Because he won't be asked to drop in coverage, Coples is still going to rush from the interior in all sub-packages. He worked with both the defensive line and linebackers during the first two days of training camp.

Sat Jul 20 201320:32Quinton Coples not really moving to OLB?
The New York Daily News calls Quinton Coples' transition from left end to outside linebacker "greatly exaggerated."
The Jets run a 3-4 in alignment, but their concepts are more 4-3 in nature with a one-gap playing style. The outside linebackers are used like defensive ends more often than not. Beat reporter Manish Mehta expects Coples to rush from the interior "his fair share of time." The goal is improved versatility.

Fri May 17 201309:19Quinton Coples ups effort level
Jets OLB Quinton Coples says he's responded with increased effort after coach Rex Ryan called him out last week.
"I responded in the weight room and got better," Coples said. "I gave better effort and made sure that won't happen again." Ryan's tactic worked with a player the Jets need to be a major pass-rushing presence off the edge this season. Coples has some serious ability, but is towering for a linebacker at 6-foot-6, 284 pounds. He's working to slim down. We'd guess he posts a nice sack total after tallying 5.5 as a rookie.

Wed May 15 201313:50Jets reiterate Coples will be outside rusher
Jets DC Dennis Thurman reiterated Wednesday that Quinton Coples will be used as a stand-up edge rusher this season.
"QC will play with his hand in the dirt stand up," Thurman said. "We wouldn't do it if Quinton didn't have the ability to handle it." Coples was used as a more traditional left end last season, but is being relied on to get after the passer after the Jets used the No. 13 pick on Sheldon Richardson. A towering 6-foot-6, 284 pounds, Coples should shed some weight, but is still going to be enormous for a linebacker.

Fri May 10 201315:12Rex Ryan questions Quinton Coples' work ethic
Coach Rex Ryan called out 2012 first-round pick Quinton Coples for lackluster weight-room performance on the first day of Jets rookie camp.
Coples isn't eligible for rookie camp, obviously, but Ryan took him to task for his offseason commitment level. "If Quinton doesn't do a better job in the weight room he might have to ... he's got to compete like anybody else for a job," said Ryan. "So I'm a little disappointed in Q in the weight room in the last day." Perhaps Rex was just trying to send a message. The Jets are counting on Coples to transform himself from a left end into a rush linebacker.

Wed May 1 201322:16Report: Jets to move Quinton Coples to OLB
ESPN New York reports the Jets will move Quinton Colpes to outside linebacker.
Coples (6-foot-6, 290) is obviously going to have to drop some weight to make the transition to stand-up edge rusher, but it explains why the Jets took Sheldon Richardson with the No. 13 overall pick in the draft. Coples, the 16th pick in last year's draft, led the Jets with 5.5 sacks as a rookie, even though he played just 47 percent of the snaps. Gang Green's new front-seven shapes up like this: LE Richardson, NT Kenrick Ellis, RE Muhammad Wilkerson, OLBs Coples and Antwan Barnes, ILBs Demario Davis and David Harris. It's a very solid group.

Wed May 1 201313:18Quinton Coples to be used on the edge more
Jets coach Rex Ryan reiterated LE Quinton Coples may be used as more of an edge rusher in 2013.
The Jets could field Coples and Antwan Barnes as outside-edge rushers, with Muhammad Wilkerson and first-round pick Sheldon Richardson on the interior in passing situations. Two-down nose Kenrick Ellis would leave the field. New York has now invested three first-rounders on defensive linemen over the past three drafts. Ryan should again produce a top-ten defense in 2013.

Thu Feb 21 201321:57Rex: Coples is just 'scratching the surface'
Coach Rex Ryan said DE Quinton Coples is "just scratching the surface," and he plans to use Coples more on the edge in 2013.
Ryan has been heaping praise on Coples this offseason, first by saying that the 2012 first-rounder was "poised for a monster season" in 2013. Coples led the team with 5.5 sacks as a rookie, and the Jets could be looking for another pass rusher to pair with him in this year's draft after releasing Calvin Pace.
