With fellow defensive end Derrick Wolfe suspended for the first four games of the season, Jackson's health will be of particular importance. He probably won't be an IDP option in Denver's 3-4 scheme, but Jackson is the Broncos' most dependable defensive lineman.

He is able to line up as a defensive tackle and a defensive end, which gives him a little more flexibility in terms of playing time. He had a career-high six sacks last season, and may get a few more opportunities at the quarterback this season with opposing offenses having to focus on slowing down DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller.

Broncos DC Jack Del Rio singled out second-year DL Malik Jackson as a player that impressed him in Thursday's preseason opener.

"I thought he really stood out," Del Rio said. "Malik is having a good camp and quietly making a move himself." Jackson, last year's fifth-rounder, has been rotating in with the first-team defense recently. He played just 123 defensive snaps as a rookie, and we wouldn't expect that to rise dramatically in 2013.

Jackson has three tackles, a sack and forced fumble through three preseason games, and is capable of playing both end and tackle. A mountainous 6-foot-6, 284 pounds, Jackson was billed as a high-motor player coming out of Tennessee, and could see heavy snaps as a rookie.
