Mon Nov 18 201310:27David DeCastro eats up Ndamukong Suh
Lions DT Ndamukong Suh didn't record any tackles, sacks or pressures in Sunday's Week 11 loss at Pittsburgh.
Much of the credit goes to Steelers RG David DeCastro, who is emerging as one of the best interior linemen in football. The No. 24 overall pick in the 2012 draft was part of a Steelers offensive line that helped Ben Roethlisberger to go 29-of-45 for 367 yards with four touchdowns and no picks. Big Ben was sacked just once.

Tue Nov 5 201312:18David DeCastro (ankle) ready to return
Steelers RG David DeCastro (ankle) has been fully cleared.
DeCastro's return ahead of Sunday's game against the Bills is excellent news for Le'Veon Bell and the entire Steelers offense. The 2012 first-round pick is ProFootballFocus' No. 3 guard out of 72 qualifiers so far. He's been a beast in the run game.

Fri Nov 1 201316:03David DeCastro ruled out for Week 9
Steelers RG David DeCastro (ankle) has been ruled out for Week 9.
It's a blow to Pittsburgh's running game, which will now have to run behind converted tackle Guy Whimper at right guard. Through seven games, DeCastro had graded out as the No. 3 overall guard in Pro Football Focus' ratings.

Thu Oct 24 201309:35David DeCastro getting credit for run game
RG David DeCastro is getting credit for helping revive the Steelers' running game.
Our Lance Zierlein noticed DeCastro dominating one-on-one battles against the Ravens' supremely talented front seven last week, helping pave the way for Le'Veon Bell's 19/93/0 day. Through seven weeks, DeCastro is No. 5 guard (out of 73 qualifiers) and has allowed just two sacks and two quarterback hits. After a knee injury crippled his rookie year, the 2012 first-rounder is paying major dividends.

Fri Aug 2 201310:31David DeCastro all healed up
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "there is no visible evidence" Steelers second-year RG David DeCastro is still bothered by last year's devastating knee injury.
Last August, DeCastro suffered a dislocated kneecap, torn MCL, and partially torn patellar tendon in his right knee. He returned late in the year, but was a shell of the All-American he was at Stanford. A healthy DeCastro will be critical to Pittsburgh's run blocking, where RT Mike Adams is already a rising force.

Thu Dec 27 201220:49DeCastro practicing in full for Steelers
Steelers RG David DeCastro (hamstring) is practicing in full this week.
DeCastro appeared on the injury report this week after he was utterly destroyed by Bengals Pro Bowl DT Geno Atkins last Sunday to the tune of two sacks and three quarterback hurries. Atkins, though, has been beating opposing linemen like a drum in recent years, so it can be chalked up as DeCastro's "Welcome to the NFL" moment. He'll be up against Cleveland's strong inside duo of Phil Taylor and Ahtyba Rubin in Week 17.

Fri Dec 14 201213:31Rookie DeCastro to take over at right guard
First-round rookie David DeCastro will make his NFL debut as the Steelers' starting right guard at Dallas in Week 15.
Ramon Foster will flip over to left guard, replacing Willie Colon who is out indefinitely following knee surgery. The Steelers will also have a rookie at right tackle in seventh-rounder Kelvin Beachum, making his third straight start. The Chargers had little trouble caving in Pittsburgh's offensive line last week.

Mon Nov 26 201217:23Steelers make 3 roster moves
Steelers activated RG David DeCastro (knee surgery) from I.R./designated for return and promoted OL John Malecki from the practice squad.
They also waived WR David Gilreath. DeCastro suffered several knee injuries during the preseason, but he's had three months to recover and should be able to help the Steelers' offensive line down the stretch. He was the 24th overall pick in April's draft. Malecki is a young journeyman swing lineman.

Wed Nov 21 201212:59David DeCastro back at practice
Steelers RG David DeCastro (knee surgery) returned to practice Wednesday.
DeCastro was put on injured reserve with a designation to return after tearing up his knee in the preseason. The Steelers now have two weeks to decide if they'll place him on the active roster. It's unclear if the No. 24 overall pick in the draft would return to a starting job with Ramon Foster showing well at right guard.

Fri Nov 2 201210:54Steelers not optimistic on RG DeCastro
The Steelers' optimism on rookie RG David DeCastro's (knee surgery) return has reportedly "tempered" of late.
OL coach Sean Kugler offered only that DeCastro has "a chance" to come back this season. The first-rounder has been working out in the pool and riding a stationary bike, but has yet to resume football activities. With Ramon Foster playing well at right guard, there's no need to rush DeCastro back.

Fri Oct 26 201209:40Steelers rookie RG DeCastro no lock to play
According to the Beaver County Times, there's a chance rookie RG David DeCastro (knee surgery) might not play this year.
DeCastro is eligible to return for the Nov. 12 game against the Chiefs, but he's not sure when he will be ready to practice. Coach Mike Tomlin suggested two weeks ago that DeCastro had a chance to return for the second half of the season.

Tue Oct 16 201213:36DeCastro making progress on Week 9 return
Coach Mike Tomlin suggested Steelers RG David DeCastro (knee surgery) is making progress toward a successful return when eligible in Week 9.
The first-round rookie ran in a straight line Monday and Tomlin said, "I thought it was positive." If DeCastro begins practicing in Week 9, he will beat his original timetable by roughly one month. The Steelers' banged-up offensive line can certainly use the depth.

Thu Oct 4 201217:41Rookie RG DeCastro 'walking without a limp'
Steelers RG David DeCastro (knee surgery) is "walking without a limp and feels no pain."
DeCastro is just five weeks removed from his operation. "I don't have any pain, so I'm just working hard to try to get back." On injured reserve with the "designated to return" tag, DeCastro is eligible to be activated as early as Week 9, but his initial timetable had him sidelined until at least early December. It appears he may beat that, but it would be surprising if the Steelers seriously considering bringing him back before Thanksgiving.

Fri Sep 7 201218:31David DeCastro (knee) designated for return
Steelers assigned RG David DeCastro (knee surgery) the "designated for return" tag on injured reserve.
Players designated for return must spend at least six weeks on I.R., but DeCastro will be lucky to return before mid-December. It's doubtful the Steelers' first-round pick ever gets into a game this season.

Sun Sep 2 201217:49Steelers hope DeCastro will play this season
The Steelers are expected to designate rookie RG David DeCastro (knee surgery) as their injured/reserve player eligible for activation after eight weeks.
DeCastro was never formally placed on I.R., so he's eligible for the designation. In a best-case scenario, DeCastro would return in early December and be available for a playoff run. DeCastro suffered a dislocated kneecap, torn MCL, and partially torn patellar tendon in his right knee on August 25.

Mon Aug 27 201215:30Steelers place rookie RG Decastro on I.R.
The Steelers have decided not to place RG David DeCastro (knee) on season-ending injured reserve.
It's reminiscent of the organization's decision to carry DE Aaron Smith (triceps) on the active roster in 2010, hoping for a contribution by playoff time. With a dislocated kneecap, torn MCL, and partially torn patellar tendon in his right knee, DeCastro is expected to be sidelined through at least Thanksgiving. The team will have to rely on last year's starter, Ramon Foster.

Sun Aug 26 201217:34Report: Rookie RG DeCastro out 3-5 months
A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootbaltalk.com that Steelers first-round pick David DeCastro will miss 3-5 months with a dislocated kneecap, torn MCL, and partially torn patellar tendon in his right knee.
Updating a previous item, DeCastro's MRI will take place Monday. So this is a pre-MRI diagnosis. It still sounds like DeCastro has little or no chance of playing this year. Ramon Foster will stand in at right guard. It's a downgrade for Pittsburgh's running game, but we're avoiding it in fantasy drafts anyway.

Sun Aug 26 201213:14MRI shows major damage to DeCastro's knee
A Sunday MRI revealed that Steelers first-round pick David DeCastro dislocated his right kneecap, tore his MCL, and suffered "some damage" to the patellar tendon in Saturday night's preseason game injury.
We have an extremely difficult time believing DeCastro stands any chance of returning this season, but the story from ESPN's Adam Schefter surprisingly doesn't rule it out. Per Schefter, DeCastro's ACL is intact, and the Steelers are "unsure if or when" DeCastro will be back. DeCastro is not a PUP candidate after opening training camp healthy, and the NFL never did approve its one-injured-player rule that would've allowed one guy to be carried into the season without being part of the 53-man roster. Thus, DeCastro is likely headed to injured reserve.

Sun Aug 26 201209:35DeCastro scheduled for MRI on Sunday
Steelers rookie RG David DeCastro will undergo an MRI this afternoon to determine the severity of his right knee injury.
DeCastro definitely has a torn MCL, but the team is unsure whether he tore his ACL. His best-case scenario would be missing about half the season, but, if it's a torn MCL and ACL, he figures to miss the entire season. Ramon Foster is expected to fill in at right guard.

Sat Aug 25 201222:50DeCastro leaves stadium in big knee brace
According to WGR 550 Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia, Steelers rookie RG David DeCastro exited Ralph Wilson Stadium Saturday night on crutches and with a "big brace" on his injured right knee.
"Doesn't look good," observed Buscaglia, a Bills beat reporter covering Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers. We don't want to jump to any irresponsible conclusions, but the initial indications suggest DeCastro's injury could be season-threatening. The Steelers should have an update by Sunday. Per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac, the organization initially fears DeCastro has torn his right ACL.
