Thu May 7 201510:42Kalil had both of knees scoped in January
Kalil had both of his knees scoped in January, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.
Though Kalil has not missed a start over his first three seasons in the NFL, the Vikings' left tackle acknowledges that he has been been hampered by knee issues of late. With that in mind, in addition to his arthroscopic surgeries, the report adds that Kalil also received injections to help him deal with joint pain. Earlier this week, the Vikings picked up Kalil's fifth-year contract option, which allows the team to retain his playing rights through the 2016 season. While there's nothing to suggest that Kalil's training camp status will be affected by his offseason procedures, it wouldn't surprise us if his activities in OTAs and minicamp were managed.

Sun Jun 15 201420:28Kalil battled knee injuries throughout 2013
Vikings LT Matt Kalil said he battled through a right knee injury that affected his play last season.
"It was some problems with my knee swelling up, becoming inflamed," Kalil said. "And that affected the way I move and stuff like that." It helps to explain the precipitous dropoff in play from Kalil's Pro-Bowl, rookie season. Kalil had the knee scoped this offseason and expects to be 100% by training camp.

Vikings LT Matt Kalil is recovering from a knee scope.
Kalil sat out voluntary workouts this month, and has been limited to individual drills in this week's OTAs. He underwent the procedure "about four or five weeks ago," and is fully expected to be ready for training camp. The No. 4 overall pick of the 2012 draft is looking to bounce back from a disappointing sophomore campaign.

Wed May 1 201322:52Matt Kalil looking to bulk up this offseason
Vikings LT Matt Kalil revealed that he battled pneumonia last season and played the final three games at 290-295 pounds.
Kalil says he dropped as low as 280 this offseason. He's now back up to his normal playing weight of 305, but Kalil says he plans to bulk up to 315 for his sophomore season. The weight loss likely explains why he gave up two sacks in the final two games after giving up just one in his previous 15 games.

Tue Oct 2 201211:24Matt Kalil hasn't allowed a sack
Vikings first-round LT Matt Kalil hasn't allowed a sack through four games.
Kalil, the No. 4 overall pick in the draft, has been as advertised. He didn't allow a single sack of Matt Barkley during his final season at USC and is keeping Christian Ponder clean at the NFL level. It's one of the reasons the Vikings are off to a 3-1 start.

Thu Aug 9 201208:38Matt Kalil taking all the No. 1 LT reps
Matt Kalil has taken all the first-team left tackle reps at Vikings camp, as expected.
The Vikings aren't going to ease the No. 4 overall pick in. After not allowing a single sack as a junior at USC last season, Kalil will stabilize Christian Ponder's blind side. Last year's left tackle, Charlie Johnson, should have a bounce-back year at his more natural left guard spot.
