The Colts used neither tight end much in the passing game Thursday as Dwayne Allen (1 reception and one target) and Fleener combined for just four targets. Fleener and Allen are likely to split the opportunities in the passing game at tight end now that Allen has returned from an ankle injury.

Fleener had more targets, catches and yards on Sunday than the first three weeks of the season combined. Fleener has ranked among the top three Colts in targets and receptions in each of the past two seasons, but appears lost in the shuffle early on this season as the Colts try to incorporate a multitude of receivers with poor pass protection. Emphasizing ball control on Sunday, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck focused on throwing the ball to the backs and tight ends - a tendency that could prove valuable for Fleener's fantasy owners should Hasselbeck start again on Thursday.

Fleener caught 4-of-6 targets for 51 yards in Sunday's win at Tennessee.

Fleener had a decent game in the absence of Dwayne Allen (ankle), but he still didn't approach elite tight end production. The 27-year-old should stay relevant in all leagues in the short term, but Fleener will once again find himself locked in a platoon as soon as Allen makes his way back onto the field.

Fleener did not have a pass thrown his way in Monday's loss to the Jets even with Dwayne Allen leaving the game early with an ankle injury.

Fleener played 46 snaps on offense, but was used as a blocker on 24 plays, according to Pro Football Focus. Indy's struggles in pass protection limited his action as a receiver. Fleener could get more targets if Allen is out for any length of time, but the Indianapolis offense will need to get on track for either tight end to put up significant fantasy numbers.

Fleener had just one reception for five yards and was targeted just once in Sunday's loss to Buffalo.

With 53 snaps on offense and six targets, fellow tight end Dwayne Allen got more playing time that Fleener (37 snaps). We wouldn't be too worried about Fleener's lower playing time as both will get playing time if healthy and likely each will have weeks where they get more opportunities. Allen may be on the field more as a better blocker, but Fleener will have more production when the Colts game plan has them throwing the ball down the field more.

Fleener (ankle) returned to practice Monday, Kevin Bowen of Colts.com reports.

Fleener has been dealing with an ankle injury for the last few weeks but it's never seemed overly serious despite him missing all three preseason games thus far. His return to practice suggests that he'll be ready to start in the opener Sept. 13 against the Bills, although there's still a chance he may skip the final preseason event against the Bengals on Thursday.

Fleener (ankle) will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, Kevin Bowen of the Colts' official site reports.

Fleener's injury is not believed to be overly serious, but he's now missing a second straight preseason contest. If the issue unexpectedly lingers into the regular season, Dwayne Allen could benefit from added snaps and target.

It doesn't sound like Fleener's availability for the regular season is in question, but watch his status the next two weeks.

Fleener had five catches on seven targets for 56 yards and two touchdowns during Sunday's win over the Titans.

Fleener scored his first touchdown on a seven-yard pass from Andrew Luck in the first quarter and his last on an eight-yard pass in the fourth quarter from Matt Hasselbeck. The scores were his first since he had two against Washington in Week 13, and with Dwayne Allen still bothered by a knee injury, Fleener could be a valuable receiver in the playoffs, with wideout Reggie Wayne also dealing with an injury. Fleener finishes the regular season with 51 catches on 92 targets for 774 yards and eight touchdowns, doubling his scoring total from last season.

Fleener was targeted seven times in Sunday's lopsided loss to the Cowboys, finishing with four catches for 36 yards.

Andrew Luck managed just 109 passing yards before being pulled in the third quarter, and backup Matt Hasselbeck didn't perform much better. As a result, the entire passing attack suffered. Fleener has had three mediocre games in a row, but he's capable of going off at any moment, and he is a worthy starting option in Week 17 if your league is still playing.

Meanwhile Dwayne Allen caught a three-yard touchdown pass and had four targets. The two tight ends will likely split targets with Allen getting shorter red zone looks and Fleener getting deeper passes.

Fleener was second on the Colts in all receiving categories Sunday, trailing only T.Y. Hilton, who exploded to catch 10-of-19 targets for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Dwayne Allen (ankle) returned from a two-game layoff, but only caught 1-of-3 targets for five yards. Assuming Allen made it out of Sunday's game with no setbacks, it's possible that Fleener will see a dip in production, at least a minor one. Next week, Fleener will take on the Texans at home.

Starting for the second consecutive game in place of Dwayne Allen (ankle), Fleener reached the 100-yard mark for the second time in the last three games, while scoring his fifth and sixth touchdowns of the season. Fleener has plenty of fantasy upside, but quarterback Andrew Luck spreads the ball around to a number of different receivers, which can occasionally limit Fleener's potential.

Fleener looked primed for an increased role in the offense after Dwayne Allen was ruled out with an ankle injury, but it didn't happen Sunday, as he posted his seventh game this season with fewer than 35 yards. Making matters worse, the disappointing performance came one week after Fleener caught seven passes for 144 yards against the Patriots. Quarterback Andrew Luck continues to spread the ball around, with wideouts T.Y. Hilton and Reggie Wayne getting most of the looks, so Fleener isn't likely to provide significant fantasy production unless he scores a touchdown, something he's done only four times this season.

With Dwayne Allen out, Fleener is in line to continue to see an expanded role Sunday against the Jaguars.

Coming off an effort last Sunday in which he caught 7-of-7 targets for 144 yards against the Patriots, Fleener looks like a viable Week 12 play this weekend against a Jaguars' defense that is allowing an average of 261.9 passing yards per game to date.

While he probably won't morph into a top option, Fleener becomes much more interesting if Allen (ankle) misses any games.

Fleener made up for an otherwise uninspiring game over the span of a few seconds in the second quarter, catching passes of 21 and 32 yards on back-to-back plays, with the second going for a touchdown. He bobbled the first catch, which caused the Colts to rush to the line for the snap, but the Giants were unready while waiting for a challenge flag that came too late. The result was an easy touchdown to Fleener, who went uncovered on a corner route due to the defensive mishap. The former Stanford Cardinal had an odd night in many regards, recording a whopping eight targets during that second quarter alone, after catching just one pass on four targets the previous week. Though Fleener had a strong statistical showing Monday night, Dwayne Allen remains the bigger red-zone threat, and also the superior player.
