Melvin was released by the Ravens on Tuesday.
A 2013 UDFA, Melvin surprisingly ended up making starts last season, as the Ravens defensive backfield was decimated by injuries. He turned in a couple of nice performances, before Tom Brady and the New England offense picked on him relentlessly in a playoff game. Melvin made just one appearance this season, and he got the same treatment from Andy Dalton and the Bengals. It's not a great sign for Melvin's NFL future that he was released by a team whose biggest weakness corresponds with his position.

Melvin replaced an injured Asa Jackson (knee) at right cornerback during Sunday's win over the Jaguars.
Melvin, a 2013 UDFA, played surprisingly well in his first action of the season. With Jackson's knee injury appearing fairly serious, Melvin will likely start at right cornerback in Week 16 against the Texans. He could be a sneaky IDP option, as he offers excellent size for the position, and will likely be tested by a Houston team that is down to its third quarterback.

The Ravens signed Melvin off the Dolphins' practice squad Saturday.
What Melvin lacks in experience, he makes up for in size (6-2, 193). An undrafted, second-year corner out of Northern Illinois, he impressed in the summer was cut by the Buccaneers two weeks into training camp. Melvin replaces Jimmy Smith (foot) on the active roster and will be eligible to play Sunday against the Titans.
Tue Jul 8 201412:22Bucs second-year CB Melvin looking good
The Bucs' official website believes second-year CB Rashaan Melvin could play a significant role on defense this season.
Melvin (6-foot-2, 193) has the size teams drool over nowadays. A second-year UDFA out of Northern Illinois, Melvin ran a 4.42 forty at his Pro Day with a 38-inch vertical and 10-foot-6 broad jump. A four-year starter at NIU, Melvin broke up 35 passes and picked off six others. He'll compete for a reserve role behind starters Alterraun Verner and Johnthan Banks after spending his rookie season as a weekly inactive before landing on I.R. in October.
