Sat Jun 14 201422:47Marcus Cooper getting first-team reps
Chiefs CB Marcus Cooper has been working with the first-team defense at OTAs.
Cooper started at left cornerback in nickel packages last season, but will take on an expanded role following the release of Brandon Flowers. Third-round CB Phillip Gaines is also in the mix for snaps on the outside. Cooper's play declined late in 2013 and he graded out negatively both against the run and in coverage. At 6'1/192, he's a better fit than Flowers in Kansas City's press-man scheme and could make a sophomore year leap.

Mon Dec 23 201313:28Chiefs benched Marcus Cooper
The Chiefs benched rookie LCB Marcus Cooper for Week 16 against the Colts.
Following a very impressive start to his seventh-round rookie year, Cooper had struggled mightily of late, likely losing confidence. The Chiefs went with Dunta Robinson at slot/nickel back, and Brandon Flowers kicking over to left corner. Coach Andy Reid said Monday the Chiefs will still give Cooper an opportunity to "work his way back in," likely by playing in Week 17.
