Hamilton has been released by the Bengals, the The Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Dehner Jr. reports.
Despite a strong showing in the final preseason game, Hamilton lost out to James Wright for the right to serve as Cincy's No. 5 wide receiver. Hamilton probably won't find a better chance to make a roster than the one he had with a Bengals team lacking depth at wide receiver.

Hamilton caught three passes for 74 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale against the Colts.
Assuming he makes the team, Hamilton could perhaps see a few early-season snaps on offense, with the Bengals entering the year sans Marvin Jones (foot). However, Dane Sanzenbacher and Brandon Tate are the better candidates for reserve wideout snaps, while Tyler Eifert and Marvin Jones are the players most likely to benefit from added targets.
Wed Apr 2 201418:43Bengals OC Jackson likes WR Cobi Hamilton
Bengals OC Cobi Hamilton praised 2013 sixth-round WR Cobi Hamilton's practice reps from last season.
"Hamilton made spectacular plays in practice and I watched him improve every week," said Jackson. "We have a very talented wide receiver group but I don't think you can ever have too much. It's going to be fun to see where he fits because he's a big physical player." Hamilton faces long odds of a prominent offensive role but he possesses tackle-shedding ability and is a plus blocker.

Bengals signed WR Cobi Hamilton, C T.J. Johnson, DE David King, CB Onterio McCalebb, LB Bruce Taylor, and C Scott Wedige to reserve/future contracts.
Hamilton was the Bengals' sixth-round pick last April. He spent all of 2013 on the practice squad after being drafted out of Arkansas. Hamilton will be a long shot for a 2014 job behind A.J. Green, Marvin Jones, Andrew Hawkins, and Mohamed Sanu. The Bengals also have Dane Sanzenbacher and Ryan Whalen.

Bengals waived WR Cobi Hamilton.
Hamilton was Tyler Wilson's top target at Arkansas last season, racking up a 90/1355/5 line. But the sixth-round rookie ran a mere 4.56 at the Combine and failed to distinguish himself as a possession receiver at camp. Hamilton is a candidate for the practice squad. He lost out to Dane Sanzenbacher.
