Long received his first career start at right tackle in Sunday's loss to the Packers.
It had been rumored all training camp that the new coaching staff was considering moving Long from guard to right tackle, in an effort to put the team's top lineman at a more impactful spot. While it's probably a wise move for the long haul, Long looked a bit unprepared in his debut at the position, as the Packers lined up a slew of different rushers against him an were able to generate a decent amount of pressure on the afternoon. Long's play should improve as he gains more experience at the position and faces less exotic blitz packages than what the Packers employed.

Long did not practice Wednesday because of a sore ankle, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Long, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie last season, will spend Wednesday resting his ankle, which should help it heal fairly quickly. That being said, it's unclear whether Long's sore ankle will hold him out of Friday's preseason opener against the Eagles.

Wed Jul 23 201415:19Bears RG Kyle Long day-to-day with infection
Bears RG Kyle Long will be sidelined at the beginning of training camp with a viral infection.
He'll be reevaluated next week. Long started all 16 games as a rookie last season and went to the Pro Bowl. He and RT Jordan Mills are both entering their sophomore campaigns and really helped solidify an offensive line that had been a major problem area for years in Chicago. Long's arrow is pointing straight up.

Mon Feb 3 201409:36Kyle Long held up well as a rookie
Bears RG Kyle Long gave up just two sacks on his 1,070 snaps as a rookie.
Long did allow nine quarterback hits and 21 hurries, so it wasn't all peaches and cream. But he was certainly effective as a 16-game starter, paving the way for the Bears to average 6.27 yards per carry when running right, getting penalized just three times and earning a trip to the Pro Bowl as an injury replacement for Mike Iupati. Thought of as a reach at 20th overall on draft day, Long turned out to be fine value.

Fri Aug 16 201313:40Bears rookie RG Long dominating in preseason
Bears rookie RG Kyle Long has the highest Pro Football Focus grade of all NFL offensive linemen at this point in the preseason.
Long played well in Chicago's exhibition opener and legitimately dominated in Thursday night's preseason game against San Diego, earning a +5.7 grade from PFF, which is an outstanding mark in only 33 snaps worth of action. Rookie RT Jordan Mills also held his own versus the Chargers, possibly giving the Bears some hope on their offensive line. It's been a rag-tag/mash unit for years.

Long has just 11 games of starting experience above the community-college level, but has impressed teammates with his physicality.
