Gordon (ankle) was placed on injured reserve by the Chiefs on Saturday, ESPN reports.

Gordon didn't stand much chance to make the 53-man roster, but an ankle injury suffered Saturday was enough to buy him a spot on injured reserve. He'll miss the 2015 season, and would become a free agent in the offseason.

Gordon suffered an ankle injury in Thursday's preseason game against the Rams, Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star reports.

Gordon continues to battle for a 53-man roster spot, but the ankle injury heading into cuts Saturday doesn't bode well. He was already likely on the outside looking in, and the ankle injury could further diminish his chances.

Gordon was signed by the Chiefs on Friday.

Gordon will likely slot in as the Chiefs' third tight end behind Travis Kelce and Demetrius Harris. He didn't record a catch last season, so it's safe to say his biggest contribution will likely be with the Chiefs' special teams unit.

Gordon was released by the Chiefs on Sunday, the Kansas City Star reports.

Gordon was kept on as the fourth tight end, but was in a vulnerable position because of it. His spot was taken by Damion Square, who the Chiefs claimed off waivers.

Gordon had been scheduled for restricted free agency, but the Chiefs were never going to tender him because doing so would've cost at least $1.389 million. So he'll return to compete for a roster spot at the NFL's minimum salary. A sort of tweener tight end/fullback, Gordon turns 27 in June. The former Raiders sixth-round pick has four receptions across 29 career games.

Who? Gordon was in the mix for the starting tight end job, but that was only because the Raiders have so little talent. After trimming the roster to 53, the Raiders have decided to keep four quarterbacks and two punters. Good luck.

Raiders OC Greg Olson says the team is trying to decide between Richard Gordon and Jeron Mastrud to be its starting tight end.

"We like the emergence of our young tight ends (Mychal Rivera, Nick Kasa), but we'll really take a good hard look at Richard Gordon and Jeron Mastrud this week."
