Smith (jaw) is active Sunday against the Eagles.
Smith has been medically cleared to play, but with the Jets 2-0 with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, Smith will be holding the clipboard Sunday.

Smith (jaw) is listed as probable ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles, NJ.com reports.
Smith has been medically cleared to play after suffering a broken jaw at the hands of a teammate during training camp and has been a full participant in practice this week. As a result, Smith stands a favorable chance of being activated for Sunday's game, although his fantasy value is rather minimal in light of Ryan Fitzpatrick being deemed the Jets' starting quarterback moving forward.
Wed Sep 23 201518:10Smith (jaw) medically cleared
Smith (jaw) has been medically cleared, the Daily News reports.
Coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that the quarterback -- who practiced fully Wednesday -- "could be" active against the Eagles on Sunday, but in such a scenario, Smith would re-enter the mix in a backup capacity, with Bowles confirming Tuesday that Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain the 2-0 Jets' starting QB.
Sat Sep 19 201517:53Smith (jaw) has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game
Smith (jaw) has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game, the Jets' official site reports.
He was a limited participant in practice, and it is not a surprise that he won't play Sunday, as it was reported earlier in the week that he would miss "about the next three games." Ryan Fitzpatrick will get the start again in his place.
Thu Sep 17 201517:55Smith (jaw) technically limited practice participant Thursday
Smith (jaw) was technically a limited practice participant Thursday, nj.com reports.
That said, the quarterback's timetable for a return hasn't changed and Smith still expected to miss "about the next three games," according to the report.

Though Smith participated in positional drills Monday for the first time since suffering a broken jaw on Aug. 7, coach Todd Bowles acknowledged that the QB is still expected to miss about four games, NFL.com reports.
In the meantime, Ryan Fitzpatrick will start at quarterback for the Jets, with Smith's role upon his return presumably dependent on the health and early-season efforts/results of Fitzpatrick.
Mon Aug 31 201518:12Smith (jaw) did some light throwing practice
Smith (jaw) did some light throwing a practice, but is still a few weeks away from returning, ESPN.com reports.
It's unclear as to whether Smith will regain the starting quarterback job upon his return. Ryan Fitzpatrick will likely have a chance to hold onto the job with strong regular-season performances.
Mon Aug 24 201517:45Smith (jaw) could begin light physical activity next week
Smith (jaw) could begin light physical activity next week, ESPN.com reports.
Smith is still expected to miss the first four games of the regular season, and this is definitely a step in the right direction as he tries to meet the expected timetable for his return.

Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan expects Smith (jaw) to miss the first four games of the season, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.
Although his expectation jibes with the initial estimate of a recovery period lasting 6-to-10 weeks, the Jets' general manager did acknowledge that there's a small chance Smith will eventually be placed on short-term injured reserve, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. Smith's role upon returning, whenever that may happen, will depend on the health and early-season performance of Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Thu Aug 13 201519:16Geno Smith: Undergoes Jaw Surgery Thursday
Smith underwent jaw surgery Thursday and will spend the night in the hospital, Kimberley Martin of Newsday reports.
Thus begins the first stage of Smith's expected 6-to-10 weeks of recovery. Instead of having his jaw wired shut, he opted for plates and screws to complete the procedure, which typically results in a speedier recovery. He'll continue to attend meetings until he's cleared for contact, but in the meantime, the middling Ryan Fitzpatrick will be under center for the Jets.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles said Smith (jaw) won't necessarily be the starting quarterback once healthy, Newsday's Bob Glauber reports.
Previously favored to beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job, Smith is now expected to miss 6-to-10 weeks with a broken jaw, after taking a punch from since-released linebacker Ikemefuna Enemkpali on Tuesday morning. Fitzpatrick is a known commodity who rarely looks better than mediocre for a game or two at a time, but the Jets have enough talent at other positions for him to conceivably keep the coaching staff happy. There is thus some chance that the injury will resign Smith to the bench for most or all of the season.
Tue Aug 11 201513:38Geno Smith: Suffers Broken Jaw, Out 6-10 Weeks
Smith suffered a broken jaw Tuesday morning and will be out for 6-to-10 weeks, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.
Smith was sucker-punched by in the locker room by linebacker Ikemefuna Enemkpali, who was promptly and unsurprisingly released by the team. Previously a strong favorite/lock to beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick for the starting job, Smith will now shoot for a return at some point in September or October, at which point Fitzpatrick will have likely already made a few starts. Unless Fitzpatrick is highly impressive, which doesn't seem too likely, Smith should step back in as the starter once he's healthy. Bryce Petty will likely open the season as the No. 2 quarterback.

Smith has clearly stood out as the Jets' best quarterback during the early portion of training camp, NJ.com reports.
Smith has impressed with his pocket presence, as he's been able to keep his eyes downfield while evading pressure. Additionally, Smith has not turned the ball over through New York's first four practices, which is certainly an area he needs to continue to improve. While the report notes that the Jets' defense still hasn't installed most of their schemes, Smith's progress at the helm of the offense is encouraging nonetheless.

Smith will likely get at least half of the 2015 season to prove his worth as the Jets' starting quarterback, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports.
Head coach Todd Bowles established at the start of OTAs that Smith was going to be the team's first-team quarterback heading into training camp, but veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been impressive in the early goings. Nevertheless, the Jets will still give Smith the opportunity to impress, especially since he now has Brandon Marshall at his disposal to go along with Eric Decker this season.

Coach Todd Bowles confirmed that Smith will head into training camp as the Jets' first-team quarterback and will receive the majority of the team's practice reps, ESPN.com reports.
While Bowles introduced the notion that Ryan Fitzpatrick, Matt Simms and rookie Bryce Petty will compete against Smith for the team's top QB job this summer, as it stands, the assignment is Smith's "to lose."

Offensive coordinator Chan Gailey relayed Wednesday that Smith is on track to remain the Jets' starting quarterback, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.
Per the report, Gailey notes that it was "never a thought" for the team to have a quarterback competition between Smith and veteran addition Ryan Fitzpatrick in training camp. In any case, despite throwing 34 interceptions over his first two pro seasons, Smith will remain the Jets' presumed top QB in the absence of an injury. In an effort to provide Smith with added pass-catching weapons this coming season, the Jets traded for veteran wideout Brandon Marshall and drafted the speedy Devin Smith in the second round of the NFL draft. The newcomers will bolster a pass-catching corps that returns wideouts Eric Decker and Jeremy Kerley, as well as a pair of capable tight ends in Jeff Cumberland and Jace Amaro.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles said Smith will get the first-team reps at the start of training camp, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Bowles said it will be up to Smith to keep the job, which in this case means fending off Ryan Fitzpatrick (leg). Smith had a huge game against the Dolphins to close out the 2014 campaign, but Fitzpatrick had the better overall season, despite being benched by the Texans. The veteran should have plenty of time to recover from the fractured leg he suffered in December.

Smith completed 20-of-25 passes for 358 yards and three touchdowns during Sunday's 37-24 win over the Dolphins. He also added 18 rushing yards on five carries but lost a fumble.
Smith connected with eight different receivers, throwing touchdowns passes to Chris Ivory, Jeff Cumberland and Eric Decker, the latter of whom was on the receiving end of Smith's longest touchdown pass of his career (74 yards). It's tough to read too much into the performance with regard to Smith's future in New York, though he did carve up a Dolphins defense that was allowing the third-fewest passing yards per game this season. Smith's season ends with 2,167 yards, 10 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 13 games, and he will most likely have to battle for the starting job next season, regardless of whether the Jets bring in someone new to compete with him.

Smith completed 17-of-27 passes for 210 yards, with one touchdown and one interception during Sunday's loss to the Patriots.
Smith connected with eight different receivers, though none of them finished with even 55 yards. He threw his lone touchdown pass to tight end Jeff Cumberland, marking the third game in a row he's thrown exactly one score. In fact, Smith has just one game all season with multiple passing touchdowns (Week 6 against the Broncos), and he's thrown for at least 255 yards just once (Week 3 against the Bears). He'll get the start in the season-finale against the Dolphins, though a breakout is unlikely against a defense allowing the third-fewest passing yards per game this season.

Smith completed 16-of-28 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's wild 16-11 win at Tennessee. He also ran four times for 16 yards.
Smith took a funky-looking safety in the second quarter, but didn't play too badly, not committing a turnover, while taking three sacks. His lone touchdown pass was to fullback John Conner on fourth down late in the third quarter. It was poetic justice for Smith, as it had appeared that he threw a long touchdown to Eric Decker on the same drive in which Conner scored (Decker's TD was overturned because he stepped out of bounds). The young QB hasn't looked terrible in two games since the Jets took the handcuffs off him, after an embarrassing home loss to the Dolphins in Week 13. Next week, Smith will face the Patriots, who he had success against in a 27-25 loss on Oct. 16.
