Wed Aug 12 201514:27Werner has moved from rush linebacker to strongside linebacker
Werner has moved from rush linebacker to strongside linebacker, ESPN reports.
With the Colts signing Trent Cole and Robert Mathis expected back at some point, Werner wasn't going to get many snaps at rush linebacker. He'll instead back up Erik Walden at strongside linebacker. Overall, this shows how far the former first-round pick has fallen as he's been an unproductive pass rusher, wasn't even active for the AFC Championship game and now it looks like he'll have a limited role on defense barring injuries. At least a shoulder injury that limited him in the spring doesn't appear to be an issue this summer.

Werner is not participating in the team's offseason practices due to the shoulder injury that slowed him late last season, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Werner had four sacks in the first seven games of last season, but he didn't register another sack in the final nine games as he was slowed by a shoulder injury. He wasn't even active for the AFC Championship game. With just 6.5 sacks in two seasons, the 2013 first-round draft pick looks like a bust, but he's been plagued by injuries. His exact shoulder issue isn't clear so watch his status in the preseason.
Sun Jan 18 201517:42Werner inactive for Sunday's game against Patriots
Werner is inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots, ESPN.com reports.
Werner started 15 games for the Colts this season, so his inactive designation is something of a surprise. He's been quiet in the playoffs thus far and will thus take a seat as a (presumably) healthy scratch on Sunday.

Werner (ankle) is probable for Thursday's game against the Texans, the Colts' official site reports.
After practicing fully both Tuesday and Wednesday, Werner should be good to go Thursday, on the heels of a six-tackle effort this past Sunday against the Ravens, in which he also recorded two sacks.
Tue Oct 7 201417:27Werner (ankle) full participant in Tuesday's practice
Werner (ankle) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice.
Werner missed Monday's practice, but was able to suit up and complete Tuesday's session. Coach Chuck Pagano said Monday that he expects Werner to play Thursday night against the Texans, and his involvement in Tuesday's practice certainly supports that assertion.

Werner has no sacks and just seven tackles through three games, but head coach Chuck Pagano says he is happy with his effort. "He played his tail off, and he has all season," Pagano told the Indianapolis Star. "Those numbers are going to come, and I told him the harder you try the worse it's going to get."
Werner would have had a strip sack for a safety last week against Jacksonville but it was negated by a penalty. Despite Pagano's support, Werner hasn't shown much on the field for IDP purposes. However, it looks like he'll keep a starting job with Robert Mathis out for the season with an Achilles injury.

Werner had two total tackles but no sacks or quarterback hits in Monday's loss to Philadelphia.
Werner is set for an expanded role with Robert Mathis out for the season with a torn Achilles. However, he has no sacks and has provided almost no pressure against the quarterback in two games. The Colts need the 2013 first-round pick to improve rapidly.
Mon Sep 8 201413:45Werner had three total tackles in Sunday's loss at Denver
Werner had three total tackles in Sunday's loss at Denver.
Werner is filling in for suspended Robert Mathis at linebacker and expected to provide a strong pass rush, but he wasn't a factor in Sunday's loss. He'll need to step up and get some pressure against the quarterback next week against the Eagles.
Mon May 19 201408:47Werner to get first crack at Mathis' job
Bjoern Werner is expected to start at outside linebacker while Robert Mathis serves a four-game suspension.
Werner, the No. 24 overall pick last year, wasn't physically strong enough as a rookie and had just 2.5 sacks as a rotational player. He'll have a chance for a much bigger impact in Year 2, especially in the first four games. It's a situation for IDP owners to monitor as the weak-side "rush" linebacker in the Colts' 3-4 is a sack-happy position. Mathis racked up 19.5 of them last year.

Thu Jan 16 201414:41Colts want OLB Bjoern Werner to get stronger
The Colts want OLB Bjoern Werner to get stronger.
Werner, the No. 24 overall pick in last April's draft, appeared in 15 games as a rookie, making one start. He played just 352 defensive snaps and recorded 18 tackles and 2.5 sacks. GM Ryan Grigson stressed that Werner needs to get in the weight room. With Erik Walden and Robert Mathis under contract for 2014, Werner will likely be a rotational player again in his second season.

Wed Nov 20 201312:24Bjoern Werner will start for Colts this week
Bjoern Werner will start in place of Erik Walden in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Werner will step in as the every-down strong-side linebacker. It's a big chance for the No. 24 overall pick who has battled a torn plantar fascia and ineffective play in limited snaps this season.

Mon Sep 30 201316:04Colts lost 1st-round pick Werner for 4-6 wks
Colts OLB Bjoern Werner is out 4-6 weeks with a torn plantar fascia.
Indy may be regretting its preseason trade of Caesar Rayford right about now. The 24th pick in April's draft, Werner managed a half-sack and five tackles in Indy's first four games. He suffered the injury in Sunday's Week 4 win over the Jaguars. Erik Walden and Robert Mathis will play more in the meantime, with Cam Johnson filling the nickel 'backer role. Although Werner wasn't making a huge early-season difference, losing him is a blow to Indy's pass-rush depth.

Sun Sep 29 201318:07Colts calling Werner's foot injury a sprain
The Colts are calling OLB Bjoern Werner's Week 4 right foot injury a sprain.
He'll have an MRI on Monday, which indicates the Colts still aren't sure the injury's exact extent. A Lisfranc sprain could shelve the first-round pick for half of the season. A Lisfranc fracture would end Werner's first year.

Sun Sep 29 201313:40Bjoern Werner suffers toot injury
Colts OLB Bjoern Werner suffered a first-quarter right foot injury in Week 4 against the Jaguars and is doubtful to return.
The quick "doubtful" tag suggests the Colts' medical staff fears Werner has a serious injury. Erik Walden and Robert Mathis are the starting outside 'backers. A rookie, Werner was the 24th overall pick in April's draft.
