Jeffcoat was released by the Redskins on Tuesday.

Jeffcoat was removed from the roster to open a spot for nose tackle Barry Cofield. He appeared in just one game with the Redskins this season, but is still just 23 years old, and should be able to land at least a practice squad spot somewhere, if not with Washington.

The Redskins promoted Jeffcoat from their practice squad Tuesday, the Washington Post reports.

Despite leading the Texas Longhorns in both tackles (86) and sacks (13) last season, Jeffcoat went undrafted, eventually signing with the Seahawks in May. He did not make the cut out of training camp, but Jeffcoat will get an opportunity to provide depth at outside linebacker for Washington, with Brian Orakpo nursing an ankle injury.
