Carey is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago reports.

Carey has been inactive for just one of the Bears' four games this season, as his limited ability to contribute on special teams remains the primary reason behind his repeated scratches. He'll need an injury to one of Matt Forte, Jacquizz Rodgers, or Jeremy Langford to climb up the depth chart.

Carey is inactive for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Carey is fourth on the Bears' running-back depth chart and offers limited ability on special teams, resulting in him landing on the inactive list for the second straight week. Unless one of the running backs above him in the pecking order misses time due to an injury, it's unlikely that Carey will see the field.

Carey claimed a spot on the Bears' 53-man roster as the team's fourth running back, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports.

If not for Senorise Perry landing on season-ending injured reserve, it's quite possible that Carey would have been let go at final cutdowns. The second-year back will need to show some more ability on special teams if he hopes to avoid the inactive list most weeks.

Carey had seven carries for 34 yards and a touchdown, adding two receptions for 14 yards on two targets, in Thursday's preseason opener against the Dolphins.

With Matt Forte held out as a precaution, Jacquizz Rodgers handled the first-team work, followed by Jeremy Langford and then Carey. Though Langford managed just one yard on four totes, it bodes poorly for Carey's roster chances that the fourth-round rookie worked ahead of him. Furthermore, fifth-string running back Senorise Perry galloped for 89 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, potentially narrowing the gap between himself and Carey.

Carey is dealing with a shoulder injury, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Details surrounding the injury are unknown at this time, but Carey is not practicing Friday and it's unclear whether his availability for the team's first preseason game will be impacted. The injury comes at a poor time for Carey, who is expected to be fighting for his backup spot this season after the Bears selected Jeremy Langford out of Michigan State in the fourth round of the draft.

Carey's standing with the Bears may be in jeopardy following the Bears' fourth-round selection of Jeremy Langford in the 2015 NFL Draft this past weekend.

A fourth-round draft pick himself just a season earlier, Carey saw light usage as Matt Forte's primary backup as a rookie, logging just 36 carries and five receptions. Though he put up a respectable 4.3 yards per carry, most of Carey's touches came in garbage time, and he didn't see any snaps at all in the final two weeks of the season, despite the Bears being eliminated from playoff contention. Considering that new GM Ryan Pace went out and added Langford and free-agent signing Jacquizz Rodgers to the Bears' running back ranks this offseason, it appears the new regime might not be high on Carey. He may need to submit an impressive training camp to avoid being waived during final cuts.

Carey wrapped up his rookie season with just 158 rushing yards on 36 attempts (4.3 YPC average) and five receptions for 57 yards.

Curiously, Carey didn't see the field in either of the the team's final two games of the season, despite the Bears being out of the running for the postseason well before that time. Even so, with since-fired coach Marc Trestman entrusting Matt Forte to play all three downs throughout the season, Carey rarely picked up snaps at any point as a rookie, and when he did, it was often with the outcome already decided. Though it will depend on how the Bears' new regime views him, Carey looks poised to occupy a larger role in 2015, though Forte still figures to handle the overwhelming share of the snaps out of the backfield. However, with the veteran back will be entering the final year of his contract and turn 30 next December, creating an opportunity for Carey to demonstrate that he can be a long-term solution in the backfield for the Bears.

Carey didn't see any snaps in the Week 16 loss to the Lions.

With the game tightly-contested throughout, Matt Forte didn't leave the field at all, resulting in Carey logging his first "DNP" of the season. The Bears have been eliminated from the playoffs for a few weeks, and while it might make sense for coach Marc Trestman to reduce Forte's mounting workload for the season finale against the Vikings, he's shown no inclination to do so yet. Assuming that pattern holds in Week 17, don't expect Carey to get much usage.

Carey caught 3-of-3 targets for 39 yards, adding one carry for four yards, in Monday's 31-15 loss to the Saints.

Carey didn't do much until the final garbage-time drive, but he then caught two passes for 29 yards. While there's some chance the Bears will want to get a closer look at the rookie as they play out the last few games of a lost season, that hasn't yet come to fruition, and it certainly can't be assumed.

Carey went without any offensive touches in Thursday's 41-28 loss to the Cowboys.

Despite the Bears trailing 35-7 after three quarters, coach Marc Trestman chose not to pull his starters, resulting in no garbage time reps for Carey. The rookie running back has carried just 35 times for 154 yards this season and probably should only be owned strictly as a handcuff to Matt Forte.

Carey didn't see any offensive touches in the Bears' Week 11 win over the Vikings.

The rookie running back played just four snaps while the game remain tightly contested throughout. Carey might not get much significant action outside of garbage time until the Bears are officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Carey picked up 13 yards on two carries and 11 yards on a reception in Sunday's 55-14 loss to the Packers.

All three of Carey's touches came when the Bears were trailing by 41 points. He's unlikely to see many meaningful snaps while Matt Forte remains the team's three-down workhorse.

Carey toted the ball six times for 33 yards in Sunday's 51-23 loss to the Patriots.

As was the case in the Bears' blowout loss to the Packers in Week 4, Carey saw an increased workload Sunday when the outcome had already been decided, logging his second-highest total of touches on the season. While Carey's 5.5 yards per carry were encouraging, it's difficult to put too much from the performance, considering that the Patriots had more than likely dialed down their defensive intensity while waiting on the clock to expire in the final minutes of the contest.

Carey gained 19 yards on four handoffs in Sunday's 27-13 victory over the Bears.

Carey's day was highlighted by a 15-yard scamper, but he was otherwise typically deferential to starter Matt Forte, who churned out his best fantasy performance of 2014. It probably might take until the second half of the season before Carey makes more of a weekly impact in the running game, as the Bears could choose to reduce Forte's mounting workload down the stretch.

Carey saw only two carries and gained two yards rushing in Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Panthers.

After seeing a season-high 14 carries mostly in garbage time a week earlier against the Packers, Carey saw diminished snaps with Sunday's contest more tightly-contested throughout. Starter Matt Forte compiled 29 touches as a runner or receiver against the Panthers, further asserting his status as the team's workhorse out of the backfield.

Carey had 14 carries for 72 yards Sunday against the Packers.

After failing to register more than a single carry in any of the first four games, Carey saw a big increase in touches with the Bears intent on running the ball against the league's 30th-ranked run defense. While Carey's 14 carries were a lot for him, starting running back Matt Forte finished with 23 carries for a season-high 122 yards. Carey isn't likely to start poaching carries away from Forte, but it's clear that he'll be the top choice if Forte goes down with an injury.

Carey had one carry for no gain in Monday's 27-19 win over the Jets.

Carey is the clear No. 2 running back, but Matt Forte continues to play nearly every snap. Said situation doesn't figure to change anytime soon.

Carey didn't see any touches in Sunday's loss to the 49ers.

Also silent on the evening was Shaun Draughn, who failed to see any action behind starter Matt Forte. Because of Forte's ability to play three downs, he'll rarely leave the field when he's healthy, creating few opportunities for Carey and Draughn to factor into the Bears' ground game.

Carey picked up four yards on his lone carry in Sunday's loss to the Bills.

As was anticipated coming into the regular season, the Bears leaned heavily on starting running back Matt Forte, who saw 25 touches on the afternoon as a runner or receiver. Carey could ultimately earn a larger share of the duties out of the backfield as the season wears on, but at this point, he's little more than a handcuff in the event of a Forte injury.

Carey is listed as the Bears' No. 2 running back, behind Matt Forte and ahead of Shaun Draughn, per the team's official site.

We'll monitor the team's backup RB snap count in Sunday's game against the Bills, but for now it appears as though Carey is the player to target for those looking to insure their investment in Forte.
