Martin will work as an outside linebacker during the offseason, the Cardinals' official site reports.
Selected in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Martin was moved from outside linebacker to the defensive line during his first meetings as a Cardinal. However, he was overshadowed by fellow fifth-rounder Ed Stinson and midseason addition Josh Mauro, logging only 18 of his 186 snaps in the final seven games of the season. Martin will be taking a familiar role, after running at outside LB on the scout team when an opposing 3-4 defense was on the docket. If he lands a regular gig in 2015, he's displayed an ability to rush the passer, as evidenced by 11.5 sacks in 13 games in his final collegiate campaign at North Carolina.

Martin has worked with the first-team defense in nickle packages during training camp, the Cardinals' official site reports.
In such an alignment, the Cardinals add an extra down lineman to their base 3-4 defense, with Martin working as an end. Although his snaps will likely be limited as a rookie, rushing the passer alongside Calais Campbell and Darnell Dockett should aid Martin's initial NFL output. Martin's ability was evident during his final collegiate campaign at North Carolina last year, when he racked up 11.5 sacks in 13 games.
