McCain suffered an ankle injury during Thursday's loss to the Bears.
The good news is that McCain returned to the sideline without crutches or a walking boot, unlike fellow linebacker Jordan Tripp. One game into the preseason and the Dolphins are already down two linebackers, which is not how the team drew things up, especially after last year where several starting backers went down.

McCain enters training camp as the favorite to start at outside linebacker, ESPN.com's James Walker reports.
McCain, a 2014 UDFA, took most of the first-team reps at outside linebacker during OTAs and minicamp, after mostly playing on special teams as a rookie. At 6-5, 250 pounds, he may also get some snaps as a defensive end on passing downs, which would give him more sack opportunities than the average 4-3 outside linebacker. McCain is the favorite to start alongside Jelani Jenkins and Koa Misi in the Miami linebacking corps, but Kelvin Sheppard, Spencer Paysinger and Jordan Tripp could also compete for snaps.

McCain (illness, hip) missed his second straight day of practice Wednesday, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
The Dolphins linebacking corps seems to be getting picked off one by one. The hip injury is of bigger concern than the illness. McCain impressed in his NFL debut with a blocked punt and a sack so he would be missed should he not be able to play Sunday.
