Thomas has now been released by the Cardinals and Dolphins over the past week, leaving him on the free agent market in search of a new landing place to continue his development.
Sun Sep 6 201515:56Thomas claimed off of waivers by Dolphins on Sunday
Thomas was claimed off of waivers by the Dolphins on Sunday, according to the Miami Herald.
Thomas will serve as the Dolphins third string quarterback but could also end up on the cutting room floor if and when the Dolphins need a roster spot.
Sat Sep 5 201521:21The Cardinals released Thomas on Saturday
The Cardinals released Thomas on Saturday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
After dealing a conditional seventh-round pick for Matt Barkley on Friday, the Cardinals signaled their intentions with the fringe quarterbacks (Thomas and Phillip Sims) on the roster. Thomas' release was made known Saturday, as expected, and he'll now search for another opportunity elsewhere. Over the course of this preseason, he completed 21-of-34 passes for 288 yards to go with one touchdown and one interception, which equated to a 101.6 quarterback rating.

Thomas is in competition with Chandler Harnish and Phillip Sims for the role of third quarterback in the 2015 season, the Cardinals' official site reports. When asked if one player has emerged, coach Bruce Arians said, "No."
Thomas' standing as a 2014 fourth-round pick didn't afford him a late-season appearance over Ryan Lindley following injuries to Palmer and backup Drew Stanton. Meanwhile, in offseason workouts, there has been plenty of work to go around with Carson Palmer recovering from a torn ACL and concurrent practices taking place on separate fields. Despite receiving much of the non-Stanton work in Wednesday's OTA, Thomas handed over the reigns to undrafted free agent Sims, signifying the open nature of the race. Ultimately, though, Thomas' performance in training camp and preseason games will determine his future with the Cardinals.
Sun Jan 4 201516:20Thomas' sole completion of rookie season 81-yard touchdown toss ...
Thomas' sole completion of his rookie season was an 81-yard touchdown toss among nine pass attempts.
All but one of Thomas' attempts occurred at Denver in Week 4, when he took the field in the second half for a concussed Drew Stanton. The 1-for-8 performance likely spurred the signing of Ryan Lindley following Carson Palmer's season-ending ACL tear in Week 10, and after Drew Stanton sprained his right knee in Week 15, coach Bruce Arians' decision to roll with Lindley indicated Thomas' inability to direct the offense effectively, especially within a playoff-caliber unit. Entering the offseason, Thomas exists as No. 3 QB behind Palmer and Stanton as what Arians refers to as a "project," according to the Cardinals' official site.

Thomas has been replaced by Ryan Lindley as the starting quarterback for Sunday's game at San Francisco, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports.
Apparently, one practice was enough to convince coach Bruce Arians that Thomas isn't ready for his first NFL start, and a "quick hook" was utilized. On Monday, Arians said such an action could occur prior to the weekend, according to Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site, and he used his out early. It's unclear if a second straight game of unconvincing QB play from Lindley will result in an appearance from Thomas, but if Week 16's result is any indication, the rookie may have logged his last snap of the season.
Thu Dec 25 201413:50According to coach Bruce Arians
According to coach Bruce Arians, Thomas began Wednesday's practice "shaky," but by the conclusion of drills, he looked "pretty strong," ESPN.com reports.
The Cardinals' expected starting quarterback for Week 17, Thomas appeared more comfortable as he gained a better grasp of where to direct his passes. However, because he hasn't prepared as the starter since the final preseason game, it's understandable that growing pains are characterizing his week of preparation. Arians relayed Wednesday that he has "no plans for how long" he'll leave Thomas in Sunday's contest at San Francisco, but there's no question that the rookie could experience an early hook, if the offense finds little success.

Though the Cardinals haven't made a final decision on their Week 17 starter at QB, coach Bruce Arians indicated Monday that the team is leaning toward going with Thomas, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Arians added that things could change on that front if Thomas doesn't practice well this week, but at this stage, it looks like the rookie signal-caller has a good shot to get the starting nod Sunday against the 49ers, which isn't a major surprise, considering Ryan Lindley's struggles in Week 16. From a fantasy perspective, Thomas would be a risky roll, considering that Arians suggested Thomas would probably be on a short leash Sunday if he indeed draws the assignment.

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said the team may have a package for Thomas in Week 16, even if Ryan Lindley gets the start, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Drew Stanton (knee) is highly unlikely to play, and the Cardinals have yet to announce a starter between Thomas and Lindley. It would seem Lindley has the advantage, given that he got the nod over Thomas in the second half of Thursday's win over the Rams. That being said, Lindley did not impress during Thursday's game, and he was a disaster for the Cardinals back in 2012. Thomas is far superior in terms of physical tools, while Lindley offers more experience.

Coach Bruce Arians is unsure whether Thomas, Drew Stanton (concussion) or Carson Palmer (shoulder) will start against Washington on Sunday. Palmer and Stanton are both questionable.
Arians estimated that Palmer was at 80 percent health, a figure that probably needs to improve if Palmer is to play Sunday. Palmer was only able to lob passes during Friday's practice. Stanton, meanwhile, has yet to receive concussion clearance, which would be necessary for him to play Sunday. Arians said all three quarterbacks might be active Sunday, and he doesn't know which will start. It's safe to say that Palmer and Stanton would both need to fail their respective health tests in order for the Cardinals to turn to Thomas, who is exceedingly raw as an NFL quarterback. This mystery might go unsolved until around the 4:25 eastern time kickoff.

Thomas was forced into action Sunday in Denver due to Drew Stanton's concussion, and the rookie QB seemed ill equipped to cope, completing just 1-of-8 passes for 81 yards and one touchdown.
Stanton was knocked out in the third quarter, forcing the Cardinals to turn to the sole healthy quarterback (Thomas) remaining on the roster in what was then a tight contest. After four consecutive three-and-outs between the teams, Thomas provided Arizona's sole highlight of the second half, threading the needle to Andre Ellington down the right sideline. The running back did the rest, sprinting 81 yards to the house and bringing his squad within a surprising 24-20 deficit. Optimism was short-lived, though, as the Broncos rang up the final 17 points of the game. Although regular starter Carson Palmer remains without a timetable as he stays in Denver to continue treatment on his shoulder, Stanton's health watch will be similarly up in the air due to his travels through the league's protocol for head injuries. As a result, the Cardinals may introduce a veteran signal caller to the fray this week, even if coach Bruce Arians expressed confidence in Thomas to start next Sunday against Washington, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Thomas will be under center for the entirety of Thursday's preseason finale in San Diego, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
The selection of Thomas in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft sounded the death knell for Ryan Lindley as a reserve quarterback in Arizona, and lo and behold, the latter was cut Monday. Meanwhile, Thomas received reps in the Cardinals' first and third preseason tilts, combining to complete 13-of-19 passes for 134 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The rookie remains far from holding a firm grasp of the offense, but the extensive action afforded him Thursday should aid in his development.
Sun Jul 27 201419:18Arians: Thomas wants to show off his arm
Coach Bruce Arians said fourth-round QB Logan Thomas "still has to learn when to throw the ball extremely hard and when to throw it accurately."
Thomas has a unique skill set and Carson Palmer will turn 35 in December, so Dynasty owners should be monitoring the situation. We know that accuracy and touch are major issues for Thomas right now. "A strong armed, young quarterback has that problem. He gets all jacked up and wants to show it off," Arians said.

Wed Jun 18 201408:23Logan Thomas 'as advertised' so far
The Arizona Republic says fourth-round QB Logan Thomas has been "as advertised" during OTAs and minicamp.
Thomas has flashed the powerful arm and unique athletic talents that made him an intriguing flier pick, but he "doesn't always know where the ball is going." Those accuracy problems are why Thomas' stock slipped so sharply during his final years at Virginia Tech. Getting them ironed out will be mandatory if he's going to be the successor to 34-year-old Carson Palmer, who the Cardinals can keep at $10 million in 2015.

Sun May 25 201417:28Cardinals working on Logan Thomas' mechanics
Cardinals coach Bruce Arians says fourth-round QB Logan Thomas developed a habit of deciding where to throw during his dropback at Virginia Tech.
Arians is trying to break that habit, encouraging Thomas to drop back before selecting his read, and get his feet set before delivering. "When he knows what he is doing, and the guys around him know what he is doing, he's pretty good," Arians said. Admitted Thomas, "It takes time. It's not something that happens overnight." The Cardinals would likely love for Thomas to become their starter in 2015. Carson Palmer, 34, is owed $10 million next season.

Wed May 21 201414:12Cardinals get Logan Thomas under contract
Cardinals signed fourth-round QB Logan Thomas to a four-year contract.
Thomas (6-foot-5 3/4, 248) is built like Cam Newton and doesn't lack the athleticism or cannon arm. However, major accuracy issues plummeted his draft stock. Coach Bruce Arians said after the draft that those would be "easily correctable." If so, the Cardinals could have a steal. Thomas couldn't have asked for a better landing spot. Arians loves big-bodied gun slingers at quarterback.
