Smith racked up 14 tackles (13 solo), including one tackle for loss, in Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers.

Smith now has 52 combined tackles after five games, the second-most in the league behind the Colts' D'Qwell Jackson (58). Smith also has a half-sack on the season in addition to one pass defended.

Smith is the one sure thing for Jacksonville's 2015 linebacking corps, The Florida Times-Union reports.

A fifth-round draft pick out of Florida State, Smith was a pleasant surprise during his rookie season, emerging as a three-down linebacker by the end of the year. He figures to hold down the same role in 2015, after recording 104 tackles (72 solo), two sacks, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, an interception and four passes defensed as a rookie, despite playing fewer than 75 percent of the available defensive snaps. Based on the per-snap production, Smith could emerge as a top IDP option in 2015.

Smith finished the season with 104 combined tackles, 2.0 sacks, one forced fumble and an interception.

Smith had an impressive season and helped compensate for the loss of Paul Posluszny to a season-ending pectoral injury. The rookie was at his best late in the season, recording 31 total tackles over the final two weeks and notching four double-digit tackle games in his final six contests.

Smith was fined $22,500 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Houston's Andre Johnson in Week 14, the Houston Chronicle reports.

The hit landed Johnson in the NFL's concussion protocol program, leaving him questionable to play Sunday. Smith, a rookie fifth-round draft pick out of Florida State, has been a bright spot on the Jaguars' defense with 68 tackles, two sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception while appearing in all 13 games.
