Smith (hamstring) is inactive for Monday's game against the Falcons.
Once he returns to the field, the 2014 first-rounder still has much to prove in order to merit IDP consideration. He's currently listed as a third-string outside linebacker on the Eagles' posted depth chart.

He was a full participant in practice Saturday, but his status for Monday's game could come down to a game-time decision.

Smith (hamstring) will miss 2-to-3 weeks, the Philadelphia Inquirer's Zach Berman reports.
The injury, which Smith suffered in Thursday's practice, is only expected to keep the linebacker out of action for a couple preseason games, and he should be ready for the start of the regular season. Smith appears to be in line for a key role as the Eagles' third outside linebacker.

Smith was carted off the field during Thursday's practice with a tweaked hamstring, NJ.com reports.
Smith's injury, suffered on the very first play of the day, initially appeared to be serious as the linebacker left practice on a cart. The good news is that he revealed the issue isn't anything too worrisome and it's just a tweak. Smith is slated to provide depth in the Eagles' outside linebacker corps this season.

Smith recorded a tackle and a pass defensed in Sunday's 36-10 win over the Colts.
It was an encouraging start to year No. 2 for the maligned first-round pick. After fellow outside linebackers Travis Long and Brandon Hepburn suffered injuries, Smith is primed for a good chunk of playing time this season. He looked more comfortable in defensive coordinator Bill Davis's scheme against Indianapolis. He shouldn't be counted on for big numbers in any category, but he'll have a chance to show his stuff this season.

Smith could see an increase in playing time as a result of Travis Long tearing his ACL during drills Monday, Philadelphia Magazine reports.
After a disappointing and unproductive rookie year, Smith will have a chance to prove himself with meaningful snaps at outside linebacker this season. Former Eagle Trent Cole moved on this past season, meaning the No. 3 spot at the position is up for grabs. Long was expected to win the job; now Smith and fellow linebacker Brad Smith will be expected to compete for that chance. Defensive coordinator Bill Davis said Monday that Marcus Smith looks markedly better than he did during last season.
Mon Jan 5 201515:50Smith finished 2014 rookie season with no statistics
Smith finished his 2014 rookie season with no statistics.
To say Smith's rookie season was a bust would be a comical understatement. He literally did not show up in the box score despite playing 68 defensive snaps, as if his inability to earn more than 68 snaps didn't inspire enough alarm in itself. If there's a single rationalization for Smith's invisibility, it might be that the Eagles did boast a good amount of depth at outside linebacker, with all of Connor Barwin, Trent Cole and Brandon Graham showing well in various capacities. Still, Smith's rookie season is one of the most regrettable in recent memory among first-round picks, and his inability to adapt as a rookie bodes poorly for his long-term outlook.
Wed Jul 2 201409:55Marcus Smith practiced with the 3s all spring
Eagles first-round OLB Marcus Smith practiced with the third-stringers throughout offseason practices.
Smith is expected to climb the depth chart quickly at camp, settling in as a second-stringer and situational pass-rusher. With former first-rounder Brandon Graham also backing up starters Connor Barwin and Trent Cole, the Eagles have a nice rotation here. They figure to improve on last year's 37 sacks, which ranked 20th in the NFL.
