Sankey recorded 20 rushing yards on seven carries, and caught all three of his targets for 23 more yards Sunday against Buffalo.
Sankey, Antonio Andrews and Dexter McCluster finished in a virtual dead heat in terms of touches, but it was Andrews who got called upon to punch in a goal-line carry for the team's only touchdown of the day. It's hard to imagine Sankey delivering consistent production if he continues to only see a third of the team's looks out of the backfield.

Sankey will be part of a running back-by-committee situation moving forward in Tennessee, David Climer of the Tennessean reports.
In case it wasn't apparent from the Titans having a different leading rusher in each of their first three games, head coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed the team is perfectly content feeding the hot hand rather than consistently featuring a single running back. As a result, Sankey, Dexter McCluster, Antonio Andrews and Terrance West should all continue to see touches moving forward, health permitting.

Sankey rushed for just 10 yards on five carries, but added 31 yards on two receptions Sunday against the Colts.
Sankey accounted for just five of the team's 27 carries, and took a backseat to Antonio Andrews. The second-year back had been precariously perched atop a muddled depth chart in Tennessee's backfield, but now his role compared to those of Andrews and Dexter McCluster is even less clear.

Sankey managed just 42 yards on 12 carries, and caught neither of his two targets in Sunday's loss to the Browns.
Sankey ceded a lot of playing time to Dexter McCluster (14 touches), and generally looked inept a week after running wild against the Buccaneers. McCluster will always take up some touches in a change-of-pace role, but Sankey is still the lead-dog in the Titans backfield, even with this dismal effort.

Sankey had 12 carries for 74 yards with a touchdown and also had a 12-yard touchdown reception. He finished with two catches on four targets for 12 yards.
Rookie Marcus Mariota had a monster game, throwing four touchdown passes in the first half, so the game flow favored Sankey and the running game in the second half. Meanwhile, recently-acquired Terrance West ran for 41 yards on 14 carries, while also losing a fumble. West actually got some goal line carries in the first half, and was mixed in throughout, but Sankey was the one that scored from close range midway through the third quarter. With rookie Davd Cobb (calf) out for the first half of the season, it looks like Sankey, and West, to a lesser degree, will lead the Titans' backfield.

Sankey had six carries for 17 yards in Friday's preseason game at Kansas City.
After an impressive showing Sunday against the Rams (six carries for 45 yards), Sankey was held in check in Tennessee's third preseason game. Rookie David Cobb did not play Friday with a calf injury, and is week-to-week, meaning Sankey should open the season as the team's starter in the backfield.

Sankey gained 45 yards on six carries in Sunday's preseason game against the Rams.
Sankey broke off one of the more impressive runs so far this preseason, bouncing out of an initial tackle attempt with an accidental spin move, then dragging a couple of defenders to finish off a 19-yard gain. Meanwhile, fifth-round rookie David Cobb managed just 26 yards on eight carries, though he did get some work with the first-team offense, after playing with the third unit last week. Sankey has received the bulk of first-team reps in training camp, but Cobb is also expected to have a significant role, which may include goal-line and short-yardage duties.

Sankey had eight carries for 15 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the Falcons.
Dexter McCluster had a six-yard touchdown to cap things off, but it was Sankey who dominated the snaps and touches on the first-team offense's three drives. Antonio Andrews played with the second-team offense in the second quarter, followed by rookie David Cobb with the third unit after halftime. Even though he was the fourth running back to enter the game, Cobb probably presents the greatest threat to Sankey's touches, especially in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

Saneky has gotten the majority of first-team reps in camp so far, the Titans' official site reports.
Despite all the buzz about rookie David Cobb, the team clearly still views Sankey as its primary running back at this time. Sankey had an underwhelming rookie season in 2014, but it's hard to find another running back with his combination of youth and opportunity in the later rounds.

Sankey has struggled with pass protection thus far in camp, ESPN.com reports.
The 22-year-old is still the favorite to lead Tennessee's rushing attack in his second NFL season, but he isn't doing himself any favors with a slow start to camp. Fellow running backs David Cobb and Dexter McCluster haven't fared much better, so at least Sankey supporters can take solace in the fact that he hasn't lost any ground to those two despite his early struggles.

The Tennessean suggests that Sankey "is the odds-on favorite" to be the Titans' starting running back to open the coming season.
The prediction is based on the fact that Sankey -- the first running back chosen in the 2014 draft -- has a year's worth of experience and a full offseason to his credit as training camp approaches. As a rookie, Sankey averaged 3.7 yards on 152 carries, but the report suggests that missing OTAs because of school commitments last year may have stalled the University of Washington product, who turns 23 on Sept. 15. With Dexter McCluster more of a change-of-pace option, look for 2015 draftee David Cobb and perhaps Antonio Andrews to challenge Sankey for touches. Down the road, Cobb is a candidate to claim a key role in the team's backfield, though the fact that he missed much of the offseason with a hamstring issue has probably slowed that process, at least temporarily.

Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt wants to see Sankey add some size, The Tennessean reports. "We'd like him in the 215 to 220 range," head coach Ken Whisenhunt said. "I just feel like as far as having some thump in the A-gap when he has protection or being able to get extra yards on a carry, I think that can help him."
Tennessee's second-round pick in 2014 rushed for 569 yards and two touchdowns during an underwhelming rookie season. Whisenhunt feels a heavier Sankey would be more productive and his presence during OTAs -- Sankey could not attend last year due to school commitments after being drafted out of the University of Washington -- should help the running back in 2015.

The Titans added depth behind Sankey in the recent NFL draft by selecting fellow running back David Cobb 138th overall this past weekend, ESPN.com reports.
As a rookie, Sankey, the first running back taken (54th overall) in last year's draft, recorded 569 rushing yards (on 152 carries) and two TDs, to go along with 18 catches for 133 yards. In his second season as a pro Sankey will no doubt look to improve on his average of 3.7 yards per carry, an outcome that coach Ken Whisenhunt suggests is plausible, with the running back set to be on board for a full offseason of preparation, after missing time last year due to school commitments. While Sankey remains atop the Titans' RB depth chart at this stage, the team views Cobb as a three-down back, so Sankey is clearly in line for some competition for touches from the rookie out of Minnesota.

Sankey finished his rookie season with 152 rushing attempts for 569 yards and two touchdowns.
Sankey, who also had 18 catches (on 24 targets) for 133 receiving yards, was largely a victim of a miserable quarterback situation throughout Tennessee's 2-14 campaign. As expected, he took on a larger percentage of the workload as the season progressed, meaning he should enter the 2015/16 season as the clear-cut number one back.

Sankey had 14 carries for 44 yards, adding one reception for nine yards on two targets, in Thursday's 21-13 loss to the Jaguars.
Leon Washington posted a 7-62-1 receiving line while handling most of the snaps on passing downs, and Shonn Greene carried seven times for 28 yards. The workload split was much more favorable for Sankey than last week's, but it's still hard to get excited about a running back who is stuck in a committee in a poor offense. The Titans face the Colts in Week 17.

Sankey had just three carries for eight yards in Sunday's loss to the Jets. He caught his lone target for 18 yards.
Meanwhile, Shonn Greene saw his most extensive work of the year, carrying the ball 16 times for 50 yards. While Greene wasn't that effective Sunday, it's surprising that he saw a season high in carries, while Sankey was barely used. Unless Sankey suffered an undisclosed injury, it's hard to predict what the Titans will do with their backfield Thursday at Jacksonville.

Sankey had nine carries for 25 rushing yards and two catches on three targets for two receiving yards during Sunday's 36-7 loss to the Giants.
There was a thought that Sankey could get increased carries because Shonn Greene was a healthy scratch, but the Titans essentially had to abandon the run after falling behind 17-0 by the end of the first quarter. Backup Leon Washington rushed only twice for nine yards, while Dexter McCluster didn't record a single carry but caught two passes for 10 yards. The backfield is Sankey's for the taking, but he's got a tough Week 15 matchup against the Jets, who are allowing the third-fewest rushing yards per game this season.
Sun Nov 30 201417:09Sankey had 10 carries for 42 rushing yards Sunday against Texans
Sankey had 10 carries for 42 rushing yards Sunday against the Texans.
The Titans were dominated throughout the game, trailing 24-0 at halftime, which essentially forced them to abandon the run. While the good news is that Shonn Greene grabbed only two carries, which he turned into zero yards, though Dexter McCluster ran nine times for 33 yards. Overall, Sankey continues to lead the backfield, though he's still a fairly limited fantasy performer. The big silver lining is that he'll get to face a Giants defense in Week 14 that came into Sunday allowing the second-most rushing yards per game this season.

Sankey (stinger) does not appear on Wednesday's practice participation/injury report.
Sankey is good to go in advance of Sunday's game against the Texans, but with a total of 21 carries for 75 yards and a TD to go along with three catches for 21 yards over his last two outings, there are more reliable plays at running back in Week 13.
Mon Nov 24 201418:24Sankey sustained stinger Sunday against Eagles
Sankey sustained a stinger Sunday against the Eagles, John Glennon of The Tennessean reports.
We'll have to see if Sankey's practice participation this week is impacted by the issue, but at this stage his Week 13 status does not appear to be in any danger.
