Sat Sep 5 201511:08Harris released by Steelers on Saturday
Harris was released by the Steelers on Saturday, ESPN.com's Adam Caplan reports.
A 2014 UDFA, Harris actually started a playoff game last season, as the Steelers had no proven backfield options behind Le'Veon Bell. Harris gained just 25 yards on nine carries in the playoff game, and he still entered training camp as a longshot to make the final roster.

Harris had nine carries for 25 yards and two receptions for six yards in Saturday's playoff loss to the Ravens.
Harris was in a tough spot Saturday making his first career start against a stout Ravens defense, and neither he nor any Steelers running back could get anything going with LeVeon Bell (knee) watching from the sidelines. Harris was an undrafted free agent who did not join the Steelers until November, so he will likely have to compete for a roster spot during training camp.

With Le'Veon Bell ruled out, Harris is in line to start at running back for the Steelers on Saturday against the Ravens, ESPN.com reports.
Dri Archer also figures to be in the mix Saturday in a change-of-pace role, with newcomer Ben Tate also on hand, but look for Harris -- who was limited to just nine carries for 16 yards in five regular-season games -- to get the first shot to fill in for Bell, who logged 290 carries (which ranked third in the NFL) during the regular season.

Harris had five carries for seven yards in Sunday's 27-17 win over the Bengals.
All of Harris' carries came during the fourth quarter, after Le'Veon Bell left the game with a hyperextended right knee. The Steelers were faced with a major drop-off, as Harris and Archer are both little-used rookies. While Harris was undrafted and Archer a third-round pick, Harris is probably the better bet to lead the team in carries, should Bell miss Saturday's playoff game against the Ravens. The undersized Archer would be more likely to contribute as a pass-catcher, and the Steelers would likely do quite a bit of throwing. Bell seemingly has a decent shot to be ready, as hyperextended knees are often manageable within a day or two.

Harris rushed four times for nine yards in Pittsburgh's 42-21 win over Cincinnati on Sunday.
Harris saw the first touches of his career with Dri Archer inactive. Recently promoted from the practice squad, Harris provides little more than to give Le'Veon Bell the occasional breather.
Tue Nov 18 201415:12Harris promoted by Steelers from their practice squad on Tuesday
Harris was promoted by the Steelers from their practice squad on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports.
A vacancy was created for Harris after Pittsburgh released running back LeGarrette Blount in a surprise move Tuesday afternoon. Le'Veon Bell -- who ran for 204 yards Monday night against the Titans -- will continue to lead the charge, but will now be followed by Dri Archer on the depth chart. Harris will serve as the No. 3 back, but is unlikely to be a major part of the Steelers' offensive game plan in any given week, barring an injury to Bell or Archer.
