Fri Feb 27 201513:30Geathers released by Bengals on Friday
Geathers was released by the Bengals on Friday.
A Bengal for the first 10 years of his career, Geathers oddly piled up 10.5 sacks in 2006, but he has otherwise never topped 3.5 in a season. While he once had a reputation as a solid run defender, the 31-year-old Geathers will likely need to compete for a roster spot in 2015, assuming he wants to keep playing.

Geathers (shoulder) is active for Thursday's game against the Browns, ESPN reports.
Geathers approached Thursday's contest as questionable, but apparently his sore shoulder will not prevent him from suiting up. The defensive end will add depth to the Bengals' front-seven.

Geathers (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Browns, the Bengals' official site reports.
With 13 tackles and a sack in eight games to date, Geathers' Week 10 status is of more import to the Bengals' DE depth than it is to fantasy owners.
Mon Nov 3 201418:56Geathers (shoulder) limited participant in Monday's practice
Geathers (shoulder) was a limited participant in Monday's practice, Richard Skinner of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Geathers is dealing with a shoulder injury, and his status for Thursday's game against the Browns could be in jeopardy.
Wed Sep 18 201315:49Bengals place DE Geathers on injured reserve
Bengals placed DE Robert Geathers on injured reserve with an elbow injury, ending his season.
Geathers, the Bengals' longest-tenured player at ten years, didn't record a tackle in two games played this season. He was demoted to No. 3 end duties with Carlos Dunlap taking over at left end. Wallace Gilberry will vault up the depth chart, while Devon Still and Margus Hunt could see some time on the edge.

Tue Mar 12 201315:40Bengals re-sign DE Geathers
Bengals re-signed LE Robert Geathers.
Cincinnati is keeping the band together. Geathers, the team's longest tenured player, chipped in three sacks last season and was a solid run defender while starting every game. He and fourth-year DE Carlos Dunlap will likely compete for the starting job this summer.

Mon Mar 11 201321:18Bengals interested in bringing back Geathers
Bengals.com says the team "would like to strike a deal" with free agent DE Robert Geathers.
Cincinnati is trying to keep their No. 3-ranked pass rush group together, and they've already franchised Michael Johnson and re-signed Wallace Gilberry. Geathers, 29, is the Bengals' longest-tenured player, and he started all 16 games in 2012, registering three sacks.

Mon Sep 3 201222:19Geathers practices while Dunlap is absent
Bengals LE Robert Geathers (knee) participated in practice on Monday and looks set to play next Monday night.
"It's time to go... I should be fine," said Geathers. The bigger news, though, is that starting LE Carlos Dunlap (knee) didn't suit up on Monday and looks iffy for the Ravens. If Dunlap were to miss, Geathers, rookie DT Devon Still, Jamaal Anderson, and LB Manny Lawson would play in a rotation of sorts. Joe Flacco already has a juicy matchup against Cincinnati's secondary, and not having to worry about Dunlap would be even better.

Fri Aug 3 201217:28Bengals DE Geathers has knee scoped
Bengals LE Robert Geathers will miss the next few weeks of training camp after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.
The Bengals are optimistic he'll be back by the September 10 opener, although there are no guarantees. Geathers, 29, started 15 games last season, but his role was scaled back and he graded out negatively as both a pass rusher and run stopper by Pro Football Focus. Geathers is due a $4.2 million base salary, which seems like an awful lot for an underachieving rotational player. Carlos Dunlap and Jamaal Anderson will see increased reps.

Sun Apr 10 201116:22Bengals coach Lewis defends Robert Geathers
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis defended LE Robert Geathers' play after he recorded just one sack in 16 starts last year.
"Robert has done everything we've asked and done everything right," said Lewis. "He's not been an effective pass rusher, but he does a good job playing the right gap." Cincinnati ranked 19th in run defense and served up more than 4.4 YPC last season, so it's not as if Geathers is keying a stout unit. Pro Football Focus ranked Geathers as the 44th run-stopping 4-3 end out of 65 last season. He was 63rd of 65 as a pass rusher.

Wed Feb 16 201112:28Geathers, Odom not locks to return in 2011
The Cincinnati Enquirer suggests that "only one" of DEs Robert Geathers and Antwan Odom will return in 2011.
Both veterans are due over $4 million for next season. After missing 22 games the past two years, Odom seems more likely to go. With the "Fisher Price" duo of Michael Johnson and Carlos Dunlop emerging as starters, Geathers would play a rotational role.

Bengals LE Robert Geathers was spotted with a boot on his foot Thursday and is undergoing tests.
The Bengals' official site says that Geathers could miss a few weeks, although his status for the regular season doesn't appear to be in doubt. This should give second-round rookie Carlos Dunlap a chance to impress with extra reps.

Sun May 23 201011:11Geathers experimenting with standing up
Bengals LE Robert Geathers was used as a stand-up pass rusher at times during last week's OTAs.
Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is experimenting with all kinds of different looks this offseason. With rookies Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins now in the mix, he has plenty of quality bodies to work with. The Bengals ranked 16th in the league last season with 34 sacks and are expecting to get Antwan Odom back for training camp.
