Maualuga (undisclosed) has been cleared to practice after passing his physical Monday.
Maualuga missed the early portion of training camp due to an undisclosed ailment, but the veteran has now earned the green light to begin his season. Although he posted a career-low 59 tackles (33 solo) through 12 games last season, Maualuga and new teammate AJ Hawk give the Bengals a pair of solid run-stuffing middle linebackers heading into the upcoming campaign.

Maualuga (undisclosed) was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list Thursday, but his injury should allow him to take the practice field in short order, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.
Maualuga has been relatively durable in six NFL seasons, logging 85 of a possible 96 regular season games. While he's formidable against the run, his deficiencies in pass coverage don't allow reps in many third-down situations. No matter, he's posted one 100-tackle campaign, which he's complemented with six forced fumbles, five interceptions, four sacks, and two fumble recoveries over the course of his career.

Beat writer Coley Harvey suggests Rey Maualuga (knee) won't return to an every-down role once healed.
Backup Vinny Rey has been a revelation, forcing the coaches to keep giving him snaps no matter what.
