Wed Apr 24 201321:44Red Sox will attempt to trade Alfredo Aceves
The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo reports that the Red Sox will try to trade Alfredo Aceves.
Aceves was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket after Wednesday's game, but the Sox will apparently look to deal him before he has to report to the minors. He pitched well prior to 2012 but holds a 5.93 ERA and 1.46 WHIP since the beginning of last season and his makeup issues are well documented. At this point, the Red Sox will probably take very little in return for him.

Wed Apr 24 201320:27Red Sox option Alfredo Aceves to AAA level
Red Sox optioned RHP Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Not only has Aceves' personality grown tiresome, but he simply hasn't pitched well, owning an 8.66 ERA and 2.09 WHIP through 17 2/3 innings this season. He will probably work in middle relief at the Triple-A level and should return as a swingman later this summer.

Tue Apr 23 201322:12Aceves rocked by A's
Alfredo Aceves was lit up for eight runs - seven earned - on seven hits and four walks over just 3 1/3 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics.
Aceves had given the Sox some pretty solid work as a rotation sub for John Lackey, but he didn't have it in this one. The right-hander was able to escape a jam in the second, but he then allowed three walks and three hits in the third while also committing a pair of balks. Thankfully for Boston, Lackey is due back on Sunday, so Aceves is headed back to long relief.

Wed Apr 17 201323:17Alfredo Aceves tires but picks up win
Alfredo Aceves picked up his first win of the season Wednesday, allowing three runs over five frames in a 6-3 victory over the Indians.
He was unscored upon in the first five innings, but manager John Farrell sent him out for the sixth despite a rising pitch count. An obviously tired Aceves gave up a walk, two homers and a double before he was finally removed. Still, it was a second straight decent outing for the righty as he fills in for John Lackey. Lackey is expected to miss another start, so Aceves should get the ball again next week against the A's.

Thu Apr 11 201322:45Alfredo Aceves will get another start
Alfredo Aceves will be given another start in place of John Lackey.
Aceves allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four on Thursday against the Orioles in his first outing in Lackey's place. He only went five innings and isn't totally stretched out yet, but Aceves has always had an arm that could handle bouncing back and forth between roles. Lackey expects to be ready after missing two starts, at which point Aceves will head back to the bullpen.

Wed Apr 10 201310:26Aceves to start Thursday against Orioles
Alfredo Aceves will start Thursday against the Orioles.
This means that John Lackey (bicep) has officially been scratched, though the Red Sox have yet to make a decision about a possible stint on the disabled list. Felix Doubront was originally scheduled to start Thursday, but he has been pushed back now that Aceves will get the ball.

Fri Mar 22 201316:10Alfredo Aceves goes five scoreless
Alfredo Aceves pitched five scoreless innings and struck out five against the Blue Jays on Friday.
The Jays had seven regulars playing today, making Aceves' showing quite impressive. That Aceves is still starting games could be taken as an indication that the Red Sox are hoping to move him; they don't have room in the rotation for him unless someone gets hurt.

Sat Mar 16 201317:11Alfredo Aceves gives up two runs to Rays
Alfredo Aceves yielded two runs in 4 1/3 innings Saturday in a victory over the Rays.
Back from the World Baseball Classic, Aceves drew a start today. He wasn't involved in any brawls this time around, though he nearly sparked one by plunking Sean Rodriguez and exchanging words with him down the first base line. One wonders just how much more patience the Red Sox are going to show with the right-hander. If someone is interested in taking him off their hands, they probably wouldn't ask for much in return.

Thu Mar 14 201318:10Red Sox could trade Alfredo Aceves
The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo believes "there's a chance" the Red Sox could trade Alfredo Aceves.
Cafardo noted that there have been lots of scouts watching Red Sox relievers the last few days, and he thinks it's Aceves that might be on the block. The righty will make a pretty reasonable $2.65 million this season and has another year of arbitration eligibility, but Boston has grown tired of his antics at this point and wouldn't mind turning the page. He could potentially start for another team if he's moved.

Sat Mar 9 201322:51Alfredo Aceves relatively unharmed from fight
The Red Sox have received word that Alfredo Aceves escaped Team Mexico's scrap with Team Canada without any serious injuries.
It's an unfortunately necessary confirmation for the club after Aceves and his devilish eyes were at the center of the dust up between the two teams in Saturday's WBC action. The 30-year-old reliever saved 25 games for the Red Sox last season but struggled to the tune of a 5.36 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. With Team Mexico's elimination, Aceves will now return to Red Sox camp and will serve as middle relief depth in 2013.

Wed Feb 20 201318:19Aceves says incident was 'miscommunication'
Alfredo Aceves said the incident Sunday where he refused to throw at full strength during a live batting practice session was "just miscommunication."
"It was just miscommunication. That's all it was," Aceves said. "I apologized for that and now we're on track." Red Sox manager John Farrell said Aceves "had a very good day" Wednesday and was "focused." Rumors had surfaced that Boston was growing tired of Aceves' antics and considering releasing him, but it appears all is well for now.

Tue Feb 19 201319:46Red Sox could only pay Aceves 1/6 if salary
Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reports that the Red Sox would only have to pay Alfredo Aceves about $440,000 of his $2.65 million salary if they release him before March 13.
The reason the salary isn't fully guaranteed is because it was agreed upon in a settlement before going to arbitration. If they wait until March 27 to release him, they would owe him about $660,000. Aceves is certainly good enough to be on the team's Opening Day roster, but it's possible the Sox could choose to cut him loose if they've grown tired of his antics.

Mon Feb 18 201320:15Red Sox won't tolerate Alfredo Aceves' antics
Alfredo Aceves' agent, Tom O'Connell, was told by Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington Monday that the team will not tolerate any more of the righty's antics.
Aceves, who has a lengthy history of rubbing people the wrong way, refused to throw at full strength during a live batting practice session Sunday. He then performed the drill as intended after being confronted by manager John Farrell. A source told CSN New England's Sean McAdam that the club feels as though Aceves was "absolutely" testing the waters with his new manager. The right-hander prefers to start but will be used in the bullpen for Boston this season.

Sun Feb 17 201320:20Aceves throws bizarre live BP session
Alfredo Aceves refused to throw at full strength during a live batting practice session Sunday.
Aceves is a valuable pitcher and capable of filling multiple roles for the Red Sox, but this isn't the first time he's clashed with management, and his unorthodox ways have become a concern. "The one thing I'll say about that is he didn't go through the drill as intended," manager John Farrell said. "We have addressed it." The relationship between Aceves and Farrell will be a situation to monitor in spring training. Full video of the throwing session is available in the attached link.

Fri Jan 18 201317:20Red Sox, Aceves avoid arb. with one-year deal
Red Sox and RHP Alfredo Aceves avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.65 million contract.
The deal includes some performance-based incentives. Aceves was arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter after posting a 5.36 ERA, 25 saves and a 75/31 K/BB ratio over 84 innings last season. He earned $1.2 million in 2012.

Thu Nov 29 201215:43Red Sox plan to tender contract to Aceves
The Red Sox plan to tender a contract to Alfredo Aceves before Friday night's non-tender deadline.
Aceves had an ugly 5.36 ERA in 84 innings this summer for the Red Sox, but he's due only a slight raise over the $1.2 million salary that he made in 2012. Which makes this a pretty easily call for the Boston front office.

Sun Nov 4 201210:42Red Sox willing to trade Alfredo Aceves
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Alfredo Aceves is "very much available" via trade.
Cafardo notes that the Red Sox "love Aceves's arm and stuff, but don't like the high maintenance," adding that Boston reportedly tried to include him in a potential deal for Dan Haren. Aceves is arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter and is due a raise from his 2012 salary of $1.2 million. He prefers to start but can be used in a variety of roles.

Sat Sep 22 201217:26Aceves disastrous again in loss to Orioles
Alfredo Aceves imploded in another late-game situation, allowing two runs on three hits in just 2/3 of an inning to take a loss against the Orioles on Saturday.
Aceves entered to start the 12th inning of a 6-6 game, and proceeded to allow a leadoff double to Adam Jones. After inducing a fly out, Jim Thome smacked an RBI double to plate the go-ahead run, then he came around to score on an RBI single from Endy Chavez. Aceves has been hideous in recent weeks, posting a 9.35 ERA in his last 11 outings.

Fri Sep 14 201209:00Alfredo Aceves won't be disciplined
Alfredo Aceves will not be disciplined after showing up Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine following his removal from Wednesday's game.
When Valentine came out of the dugout to give Aceves the hook, the righty handed the ball to catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and stepped off the mound towards third base in order to avoid his manager. Such erratic behavior isn't foreign to Aceves, as he had a confrontation with Bobby V last month and has also gotten into a spat with Dustin Pedroia. Aceves is under team control through 2014, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Sox cut bait this offseason.

Sun Sep 9 201211:33Aceves could take Matsuzaka's spot
Alfredo Aceves is a candidate to take Daisuke Matsuzaka's spot in the rotation.
Matsuzaka was drilled for five runs in 1 1/3 innings Saturday and has allowed 11 runs over five frames in his last two starts. Aceves was the Red Sox' closer just a few weeks ago, but the rubber-armed right-hander has been stretched out in his last few outings and has past starting experience.
