Krauss went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.

Krauss went deep in the second at-bat of the game for his first home run since August of last season. The 27-year-old has two extra-base hits in his last two games, and could be worth monitoring, as he will get his share of at-bats as a designated hitter going forward.

Krauss entered Wednesday's game against Toronto in place of Albert Pujols (wrist) and delivered the game-winning two-run double in the seventh inning.

After Pujols was hit by a pitch on the wrist and had to depart, Krauss came in and ended up with the game's biggest hit. Of course, that only lifted his average to .125 on the season, and he's a .196 hitter over 336 at-bats in his career, so Krauss is looking like a classic Quad-A type of player. That said, he could see some additional short-term at-bats if Pujols has to miss time.

Krauss is out of the lineup Wednesday.

Krauss and C.J. Cron should see a relatively even split of starts at DH in the short term, and Cron gets the start Wednesday. While he has been getting plenty of at-bats, Krauss has just one hit in his last five games with seven strikeouts over that stretch, so he could soon fall out of the mix at DH.

Krauss has gotten the start three games in a row, and five of six overall since being recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake last week, but he'll head to the bench Tuesday. He seems to have surpassed C.J. Cron as the lead DH option, but Krauss will give way to David Freese as Tyler Featherston will man the hot corner Tuesday.

Krauss will slot in at first base and bat ninth in the order Sunday against the Orioles, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

It appears as though Krauss may have usurped C.J. Cron for the right to serve as the club's primary first baseman/designated hitter in conjunction with Albert Pujols. Krauss will earn his fourth start in five games since his call-up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday, but he'll probably need to pick things up quickly in order to hang on to regular at-bats. Thus far, he's off to a 1-for-8 start at the plate.

Krauss will take the roster spot of relief pitcher Ryan Mattheus, providing the Angels with some extra depth in the outfield and at first base. Krauss is essentially just replacing Efren Navarro, who was recently optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake in favor of Mattheus. So long as the Angels stay relatively healthy, Krauss doesn't figure to get many at-bats.

Krauss performed well this spring, tallying a 1.060 OPS in 28 at-bats before going 0-for-1 in the Cactus League outing against the Dodgers on Friday, but will act as depth while Efren Navarro stays on to take the backup role behind Albert Pujols. It's worth noting that Krauss has excelled during spring training in each year of his career, but has a career .200 batting average in 119 games.

Back spasms have cost Krauss four days, but he was able to hit some Thursday and appears close to returning to exhibitions. Krauss was playing well before going down, with nine hits (including two doubles and a homer), seven RBI and five walks in 25 spring plate appearances. He's still not expected to make the team out of camp, however.

Krauss is expected to break camp in Triple-A and will serve as organizational depth for the Angels this season. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Krauss will sit Wednesday with the return of Dexter Fowler to the lineup and center field. It's unclear what the Astros plan to do in the outfield, but Krauss may see less playing time going forward because of Fowler's return. Robbie Grossman will play right field Monday alongside Fowler with Jake Marisnick manning the opposite side.

Krauss hit his sixth home run of the season during Thursday's loss to Philadelphia.

Krauss, who hit cleanup on Thursday, is hitting .192/.269/.338 in 53 games with the Astros this season.

Krauss isn't in the lineup Tuesday at Philadelphia, Brian MacTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Since he was recalled on July 23, he's started 10 of 12 games, batting .222/.222/.333 with one homer, four RBI, and four runs. With no DH in a National League park, though, he's the odd man out, as Chris Carter mans left field.

Astros recalled 1B Marc Krauss from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Krauss batted just .173 with a .581 OPS in 39 games with the Astros earlier this season. The 26-year-old is doubtful to hold fantasy relevance in his second look.

With Houston's promotion of Jon Singleton on Monday, first baseman Marc Krauss has been optioned to Triple-A. Prior to the demotion, Krauss was hitting a mere .173/.272/.309.

Marc Krauss went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Mariners on Sunday.

The home run, off Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma in the seventh inning, gave the Astros a 4-1 lead and they won by the same score. The homer was his fourth of the season. Despite the occasional blast, the first baseman is batting an unsightly .190/.289/.340 on the year.

Since George Springer wasn't on the 40-man roster, the Astros could call him up today and not have him be eligible for free agency until after 2020. Jonathan Singleton, on the other hand, is on the 40-man and thus would still be eligible for free agency after 2019 if he were called up immediately. Singleton's timetable can be pushed back a year starting next week, and unless Krauss can come up with a few more big hits before then, he might be in danger of losing his spot.
