Fri Dec 30 201114:37Report: Darren Oliver to sign with Blue Jays
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that free agent left-hander Darren Oliver is close to a deal with the Blue Jays.
It's not clear how much the left-hander would get. Oliver had thought to have been a lock to re-up with the Rangers earlier this offseason, but he decided he'd be willing to play elsewhere, and that evidently includes going north of the border. The 41-year-old left-hander earned $3.25 million in 2011 while posting a career-low 2.29 ERA in 61 relief appearances.

Tue May 3 201105:10Oliver gives up game-winning homer
Darren Oliver got hit hard in his second straight relief appearance, yielding a game-winning home run to Hideki Matsui, as the Athletics beat the Rangers 5-4 on Monday.
That's two losses in less than a week for the 40-year-old, who otherwise has been very sharp all season. The silver lining? He threw only one pitch, so if Rangers manager Ron Washington sends him to the mound on Tuesday, Oliver will be ready.

Wed Apr 27 201123:30Oliver picks up second save
Darren Oliver allowed two hits en route to his second save on Wednesday, but did manage to record two strikeouts in a 7-6 Rangers win over the Blue Jays.
Not exactly a smooth outing, but Oliver has now nailed down two of three Rangers' three save opportunities since Neftali Feliz was shut down, and should remain a better own than Arthur Rhodes in Feliz's absence.

Feliz was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday and won't be back until early May. Oliver, 40, has a 2.16 ERA and 0.60 WHIP through eight appearances this season and should do just fine in the temporary ninth inning role. He needs to be owned in all leagues.

According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, Darren Oliver's $3.25 million option for 2011 vested when he pitched a scoreless eighth inning in last night's win over the Tigers.
The option became guaranteed because last night was his 59th appearance of the season. With a 2.50 ERA and 63/14 K/BB ratio over 57 2/3 innings this season, the Rangers probably would have brought the veteran southpaw back, anyway.
