He's aided his chances of going into 2013 with a rotation spot by posting a 3.04 ERA in his last four starts. Greg Johns of MLB.com expects Blake Beavan to be recalled to start for the Mariners on July 17.

The Mariners need a fifth starter because Erasmo Ramirez (elbow) won't be ready for activation yet, and Beavan has pitched well since being demoted last month, posting a 3.19 ERA over five starts. He likely will only receive a start or two, as Ramirez should be ready sometime this month.

The Mariners are expected to option Blake Beavan to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
