Thu Apr 11 201302:00Blake Beavan takes loss to Astros
Blake Beavan surrendered five runs -- four earned -- in 5 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Astros.
The Mariners doomed Beavan the moment they decided to move the fences in at Safeco, so hopefully they don't wait too long to upgrade. After two outings, Beavan is 0-1 with a 7.59 ERA and three homers allowed.

Wed Mar 27 201315:42Beavan secures fifth spot in M's rotation
Blake Beavan has secured the fifth spot in the Mariners' rotation.
Beavan hasn't been overly impressive this spring, posting an 8.52 ERA in five appearances, but the Mariners ultimately chose him over Erasmo Ramirez. We have our doubts about how long he'll stick in the rotation, so don't invest heavily in fantasy leagues, even in AL-only formats.

Blake Beaven was shelled for nine runs -- eight earned -- over 5 1/3 innings Saturday against the Indians.
Beaven yielded 16 hits -- including two homers -- in the ugly outing. He now has an 8.52 ERA in five spring appearances, but the Mariners are still expected to roll with him as their No. 5 starter. Avoid him in fantasy leagues.

Blake Beavan pitched six innings of one-run ball Sunday against the Rangers.
He allowed three hits and finished with just two strikeouts. Beavan is expected to open this season as the Mariners' No. 5 starter, but he isn't worth consideration outside of deeper AL-only leagues.

Blake Beavan hurled two scoreless innings Saturday as the Mariners topped the Padres by a score of 8-6.
Beavan surrendered two hits but struck out one and walked none. The 24-year-old righty is expected to open the 2013 season as the Mariners' No. 5 starter but probably isn't worth consideration in standard mixed fantasy leagues.

Wed Oct 3 201221:53Blake Beavan stellar in final start
Blake Beavan finished off his 2012 campaign in style Wednesday, tossing eight scoreless innings in a 12-0 win over the Angels.
It was far from a dominating performance, as Beavan didn't strike out a single batter, but he managed to hold the Halos off the scoreboard despite giving up seven hits, a walk and a hit by pitch. Beavan pitched much better after his stint in the minors, posting a 3.40 ERA over 14 second-half outings. He finishes the season with a 4.43 ERA and 1.26 WHIP.

Sat Sep 29 201201:35Blake Beavan goes 4 2/3 innings in loss
Blake Beavan could make it just 4 2/3 innings in Friday's loss to the Mariners, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks.
Beavan struck out two and surrendered a pair of home runs, one a two-run shot off the bat of Stephen Drew. Both the non-quality evening and sub-seven inning start were just Beavan's second in his past five outings. If Beavan takes the ball in Wednesday's finale against the Angels, he'll do so the owner of a 4.68 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 67/23 K/BB ratio through 144 innings. The Mariners can do better for their 2013 rotation.

Sun Sep 23 201200:04Blake Beavan blanks the Rangers
Blake Beavan scattered eight hits over seven scoreless innings Saturday as the Mariners topped the Rangers 1-0.
Michael Saunders' second-inning homer proved to be the difference. Beavan got the win to even his record at 10-10. He's aided his chances of going into 2013 with a rotation spot by posting a 3.04 ERA in his last four starts. Still, it's hard to be optimistic about a right-hander who strikes out 4.2 batters per nine innings.

The Mariners' right-hander will take a 7-6 record and a middling 5.12 ERA into Sunday's start against the Angels in Anaheim.

Blake Beavan limited the Royals to one run in 6 2/3 innings Friday to win his third straight start since returning to the majors.

Wed Jul 11 201221:48Blake Beavan likely to be recalled
Greg Johns of MLB.com expects Blake Beavan to be recalled to start for the Mariners on July 17.
The Mariners need a fifth starter because Erasmo Ramirez (elbow) won't be ready for activation yet, and Beavan has pitched well since being demoted last month, posting a 3.19 ERA over five starts. He likely will only receive a start or two, as Ramirez should be ready sometime this month.
