Wed May 9 201220:05Blake Beavan unlikely to be ready Sunday
Mariners manager Eric Wedge said it's a "longshot" that Blake Beavan (elbow) will be ready to make his scheduled start Sunday.
The good news is that he could be ready a day or two after that, and with an off day Thursday, the M's can just shuffle their rotation around without make a roster move. Kevin Millwood would be pushed up to Sunday, and Jason Vargas could go on regular rest Monday.

Tue May 8 201219:44Blake Beavan's next start up in the air
Blake Beavan's right elbow feels better, but his scheduled start on Sunday remains up in the air.
Beavan had to leave Monday's start after three inning when he was drilled on the pitching elbow by a comebacker. He should throw a bullpen session in a couple days, and the Mariners will likely know then if he'll be ready for Sunday. If he's not, Hisashi Iwakuma, who pitched three innings in relief of Beavan Monday, would be an option to fill in.

Wed May 2 201222:25Beavan disappointing in loss to Rays
Blake Beavan struggled against the Rays on Wednesday, giving up five runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings of work.
Beavan struck out one and walked two in the game. He was staked to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but surrendered two runs each in the third and fourth innings. The 23-year-old again had trouble keeping the ball in the park, as Sean Rodriguez and Luke Scott both took him deep. Beavan will carry a 1-3 record and 4.45 ERA with him into Monday's start against the Tigers

Sat Apr 21 201218:26Beavan solid in loss to White Sox
Blake Beavan pitched well in a losing effort against the White Sox on Friday, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings of work.
It didn't matter how well he pitched, as Phil Humber was perfect on the other side of the diamond. Beavan struck out one and walked one in the game. He falls to 1-1 on the season with a respectable 3.26 ERA. He has only struck out eight hitters in his 19 1/3 innings of work on the year though, and isn't a very attractive option in most fantasy leagues. He'll take on the Blue Jays in Toronto next week.

Sun Apr 15 201219:03Blake Beavan goes seven strong in win
Blake Beavan turned in seven strong innings in Sunday's 5-3 win over the A's, allowing three runs on six hits.
Beavan fanned four while walking none. His only real mistake came in the fifth, where he allowed a leadoff single to Kila Ka'aihue and hit Anthony Recker before serving up a three-run blast to Eric Sogard. He's now recorded at least 19 outs in each of his first two outings, and posted a 2.70 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 7/1 K/BB ratio in the process. He'll get the White Sox at home next weekend.

Mon Mar 12 201219:27Blake Beavan tosses five innings
Blake Beavan stretched out in Monday's 6-4 win over the Rangers, allowing two runs on three hits in five innings of work.
Beavan struck out two in his third Cactus League outing, serving up a solo home run to Nelson Cruz in the process. Fighting to earn a spot in the Mariners' rotation, Beavan is the owner of a 2.38 ERA and 6/2 K/BB ratio through 11 1/3 spring innings.

Wed Mar 7 201219:23Blake Beavan tosses four SO frames
Blake Beavan twirled four shutout innings on two hits and a walk while striking out three in Wednesday's win over the Angels.
A fine showing from the young right-hander that will earn him some brownie points toward a spot in the 2012 rotation. Beavan posted a 4.27 ERA and nice 1.25 WHIP over 15 starts for the Mariners last season, but he held a woeful 3.9 K/9 rate, and his minor league track record suggests someone that won't be mixed league material even if he should earn a spot among the starting five.

Fri Mar 2 201218:02Blake Beavan records win for Mariners
Blake Beavan allowed one run and four hits in 2 1/3 innings Friday in a victory over the A's.
Beavan looked like a better bet to have a spot in Seattle's rotation before the Kevin Millwood signing. He's still got a shot, but he'll have to beat out either Millwood or Hector Noesi for the job.

Sat Sep 17 201102:41Blake Beavan stifles Rangers
Blake Beavan shut down the Rangers for eight innings to win Friday night.
The other player in last year's Cliff Lee-Justin Smoak deal came up big tonight, limiting the Texas offense to just four hits and combining with Brandon League on a shutout. Thanks to the rookie's performance, the Rangers couldn't capitalize on the Angels' loss earlier in the night. Beavan is 5-5 with a 3.92 ERA to date.

Sun Sep 4 201120:12Beavan's struggles continue
Blake Beavan yielded four earned runs over five innings in a loss to the Athletics Sunday.
Beaven is now 0-3 with a 6.44 ERA in his last five starts. Today's outing is especially concerning considering how favorable the spot was in Oakland. With just 28 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings this season, there's not much upside with the rookie.

Tue Aug 30 201101:26Blake Beavan keeps Angels in check
Blake Beavan pitched well in a no-decision Monday, limiting the Angels to three runs on eight hits over seven frames in the Angels' 5-3 win.
He didn't walk or strike out a batter. Beavan posted six straight quality starts to kick off his MLB career before scuffling in mid-August, but he's rebounded with two straight quality outings. The former first-round pick doesn't miss many bats and has limited upside, but he's done enough to be worthy of spot start status. Beavan gets the A's over the weekend.

Thu Aug 18 201101:13Beavan again burned by long ball
Blake Beavan gave up three home runs for the second consecutive start on Wednesday, allowing five runs in five innings of Seattle's 5-1 loss to the Blue Jays.
Allowing six home runs over just two starts in Safeco Field isn't easy to do, but that's just what Beavan has done. Now the owner of a 4.10 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 21/9 K/BB ratio through his first 52 2/3 innings, he'll get the Indians in Cleveland on Tuesday. That's likely an outing you'll want to keep him benched for.

Sat Aug 13 201101:26Blake Beavan gives up six runs in loss
Blake Beavan was tagged for six runs in 6 1/3 innings by the Red Sox on Friday.
Safeco Field couldn't protect Beavan from giving up three homers tonight. He's in the best possible situation to succeed in Seattle, but good left-handed power hitters are bound to have success against him. He's now 3-3 with a 3.59 ERA in seven starts.

Tue Aug 2 201101:35Beavan moves to 2-2
Blake Beavan allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings on Monday, improving to 2-2 in Seattle's 8-4 win over the A's.
He struck out three. With Doug Fister and Erik Bedard now both out of the picture in Seattle, Beavan's rotation spot is secure indefinitely. Making half of his starts in pitcher-friendly Safeco Field, he wouldn't be a huge leap of faith as a flier in deeper mixed leagues. Just know that he won't keep up at this rate, however.

Sat Jul 30 201113:49Blake Beavan to move back into rotation
With the trading of Doug Fister, Blake Beavan is expected to move back into the Mariners' rotation.
Beavan actually didn't make any appearances out of the bullpen but was pulled from the rotation when Erik Bedard return. The right-hander holds a 3.04 ERA and 1.05 WHIP this season but doesn't miss any bats and is due for a regression.

Sun Jul 17 201120:01Beavan takes first MLB loss
Blake Beavan yielded three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings in Sunday's loss to the Rangers.
Beavan struck out three, walked two and gave up six hits. The only runs he allowed came on a Mitch Moreland three-run jack in the second inning. It's a solid outing for the rookie, but the Mariners' inept offense is going to cap his fantasy upside. A potential start in Fenway Park next time out could be ugly for Beavan.

Sat Jul 9 201101:09Blake Beavan gives up two runs to Angels
Blake Beavan held the Angels to two runs over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision on Friday night.
Beavan has allowed just three runs in his two starts, but there's not going to be any room for him in the Seattle rotation after Erik Bedard returns. Don't expect a whole lot from him going forward.

Sun Jul 3 201118:57Blake Beavan has exceptional MLB debut
Blake Beavan was sterling in his major-league debut on Sunday afternoon, holding the Padres to just one run on three hits in seven innings of Seattle's 3-1 victory at home.
An exceptional outing, but one that needs to be taken with a rather large grain of salt, as Beavan was pitching against perhaps the worst offensive team in baseball in one of its most pitcher-friendly stadiums. He's not currently worth a flier in AL-only leagues.

Sun Jul 3 201113:33Blake Beavan promoted
Mariners purchased the contract of RHP Blake Beavan from Triple-A Tacoma.
Beaven will make his major league debut Sunday against the Padres. Although it's an enticing matchup, the 22-year-old can't be counted on in fantasy leagues. He's posted a 4.45 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 16 starts this season at Tacoma.

Sat Jul 2 201117:23Beavan to make MLB debut Sunday vs. Padres
Blake Beavan will make his major league debut Sunday afternoon against the Padres.
The Mariners acquired Beavan last summer in a trade that sent Cliff Lee to Texas. The 22-year-old right-hander has registered a 4.45 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 16 starts this season at the Triple-A level, striking out 64 and walking 20. He can be avoided for fantasy purposes.
