Coming off a season when he hit .252 in 167 at-bats, Vizquel has found difficulty at the plate with only two hits in 16 at-bats (.125). With playing time scarce, the 45-year-old remains valuable purely for his defense and leadership. |

Omar Vizquel drew his second start of the season against the Orioles on Thursday, but failed to get any closer to 3000 hits, finishing the night 0-for-3. |
Vizquel still stands 158 hits away from the milestone, though he's probably a long shot to hit the mark. He's struggled with the bat in the early going of the season, hitting just .091 (1-for-11). He still provides tremendous veteran leadership and plays fantastic defense however. |

The 44-year-old is not done yet. Despite playing at a less familiar third base, he looked comfortable in the field. And now batting .455 in 11 spring at-bats, he is making the case for at least part-time major league work in what likely will be his final season. |

Vizquel, who turns 45 in April, is sitting on 2,841 career hits. |

Sat May 14 2011 | 00:39 | Omar Vizquel delivers big hit for White Sox |
Omar Vizquel went 2-for-4 with an RBI double Friday as the White Sox edged the A's 4-3. |
Omar Vizquel, starting third baseman? Why not? The White Sox picked Brent Morel for his glove, but he hasn't hit at all and Vizquel is just as good defensively. Of course, Vizquel doesn't figure to hit either, but he's at .324 in 38 at-bats after this one. He'd have minimal fantasy value even if he does begin to play four or five times per week, but it's something the White Sox need to be considering. |

Vizquel is batting .283/.349/.340 with two homers and 29 RBI in 332 at-bats this season, splitting time between third base, second base and shortstop. The defensive whiz turns 44 next April. |

Omar Vizquel (upset stomach) went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Yankees. |
Perhaps Vizquel should get sick every day. He left Thursday's game early when he felt ill, but clearly felt fine tonight. Of course, his brutal power numbers keep the 43 year old off the fantasy radar. |

43-year-old Omar Vizquel told Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times that he will likely be back next season. |
"I think it would be sad that if at the end of the season I look back, look at my year, and say, 'Man, I don't think I can do this anymore,'" said Vizquel. "Taking a look at the numbers and the things that I have done this year, it will give me a good possibility to come back next year and try and see if a team is interested in wanting me again." Vizquel is batting a surprising .289/.352/.345 in 232 at-bats this season. It should be enough to net him a job this winter, even though he will be 44 years old next April. |

Sat Jul 24 2010 | 10:22 | Vizquel to keep third base job over Teahen |
Omar Vizquel will continue to start at third base even after Mark Teahen returns from the disabled list. |
Vizquel has provided his usual solid defense and is batting .400 over his last 13 games. "Managers change their mind all the time," said Vizquel. "I'm glad he acknowledged I've been playing good and is very satisfied by the job I've been doing. But you never know. Things can turn around." The veteran is worth a roster spot in AL-only leagues, but don't expect his hot streak at the plate to continue. |
