Wed Dec 11 201318:20Angels talking to Ibanez, no deal imminent
The Angels are talking to Raul Ibanez but nothing is close, the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher is hearing.
The Angels saw first-hand that Ibanez still has something left in the tank when he hit 29 home runs with the Mariners this past season. The 41-year-old is likely relegated to a DH role at this point in his career, so a team like the Angels would make some sense. The Orioles, Braves and Yankees have also shown interest in Ibanez.

Wed Dec 11 201312:34Raul Ibanez reunion in Seattle unlikely
According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, it appears unlikely that the Mariners will bring back free agent outfielder and DH Raul Ibanez for another season.
Stark lists the Orioles, Braves, and Yankees as teams that have indicated interest in the 41-year-old's services. Given his poor defense, the American League seems like a much better fit for Ibanez as he can serve as a designated hitter. He wrapped up 2013 with 29 home runs and a .793 OPS in just under 500 plate appearances.

Tue Dec 10 201312:00Orioles not interested in Raul Ibanez
Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports that the Orioles are not in on Raul Ibanez.
This is contrary to a report over the weekend. The 41-year-old Ibanez socked 29 homers this past season to the Mariners, but he's essentially a DH at this point in his career.

Mon Dec 9 201319:23Ibanez isn't a high priority for Mariners
Mariners general manager Jeff Zduriencik admitted Monday that re-signing free agent outfielder Raul Ibanez is not a high priority at the moment.
The 41-year-old wants to play one more season. "We're very fond of Raul," Zduriencik said. "We have to sift through some things at these meetings, primarily because we are so left-handed. As much as he and I would like to get something done, I think we need a little more time to figure out how we're going to allocate and what opportunities present themselves here." Ibanez hit 29 homers last season and can still square up right-handed pitching. We expect him to be in a big league camp next spring.

Sun Dec 8 201316:47Rockies kicking the tires on Raul Ibanez
According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies have expressed interest in free agent outfielder Raul Ibanez.
The 41-year-old would most certainly be a better fit as a designated hitter in the American League, but the Rockies believe that he could be used as an effective option against right-handed pitching.

Sun Dec 8 201314:07Raul Ibanez drawing significant interest
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Rockies, Braves, Mariners, Rangers, Yankees, among others, are interest in Raul Ibanez.
Even at 41, Ibanez still has some value as a designated hitter against right-handed pitching, but apparently some National League clubs might even consider him as an outfielder. Sherman expects Ibanez to pick his new club sometime during the Winter Meetings.

Mon Nov 18 201323:20Yankees interested in Raul Ibanez reunion
George A. King III and Ken Davidoff of the New York Post report that the Yankees are interested in signing Raul Ibanez to be their designated hitter against right-handers.
Ibanez fared pretty well against right-handed pitching in 2012 for the Yankees, and King and Davidoff say that "some voices within the organization believe it was a mistake" to let him leave after the season. He went on to hit 29 homers in 2013 for the Mariners, which should allow him to cash in on a reasonably-sized one-year pact for 2014 even though he'll turn 42 during the season.

Sun Sep 22 201301:00Raul Ibanez hits 300th career homer
Raul Ibanez hit his 29th homer of 2013 and 300th career homer Saturday versus the Angels.
The 29 homers tied Ted Williams for the most ever for a 41-year-old. He's just five homers shy of his career, despite having only 436 at-bats this season. He's topped 600 at-bats four times in his career, but he's never posted such a strong home run rate before.

Tue Sep 17 201318:12Raul Ibanez wants to return in 2014
Raul Ibanez plans to return for another season in 2014.
Ibanez is 41, but you can hardly blame him for wanting to continue his career given that he's slugged 27 homers this season. "Yeah, I want to play another year," Ibanez said prior to Tuesday's game with the Tigers. "It's not something I really dwell upon. It's not something I mull over and lose sleep over because I'm in the moment right now. But yeah, if you asked me right now, I definitely want to play another year." Ibanez will be a free agent this winter after making $2.75 million this season.

Wed Sep 11 201310:57Wedge declines to name outright LF starter
Mariners manager Eric Wedge won't commit to a regular left fielder.
Raul Ibanez is the sentimental favorite, but he's 41 and not a part of Seattle's long-term plans. Michael Saunders has been a disappointment, but, at 26, is a cog of the future. "I have a group over here that says I should play him more and I have a group over there saying I should play him less because of the younger kids," Wedge said of Ibanez. "For me, it's all about the respect that he's earned. It is about the length of the season. I'm trying to walk that line to play him as much as I can, but also understand it's important to get the young kids in as much as we can too."

Thu Aug 15 201322:50Raul Ibanez hits 25th homer in loss
Raul Ibanez went 2-for-4 and homered for the Mariners' lone run Thursday against the Rays.
The homer was Ibanez's 25th, but it was is first since he hit two on July 12. He should be good for a few more blasts the rest of the way, but it seems unlikely that he'll contribute much in mixed leagues.

Sat Jul 13 201301:28Raul Ibanez hits two more homers in win
Raul Ibanez hit his 23rd and 24th homers and even mixed in a double Friday as the Mariners bested the Angels 8-3.
Ibanez is just the third player to hit 24 or more homers at age 41 or above. Ted Williams hit 29 at 41, while Barry Bonds hit 26 at 41 and 28 at 42. Ibanez could blow by those marks before the month is out with the way he's going. He now has 16 homers at Safeco this season.

Thu Jul 4 201323:27Raul Ibanez goes 4-for-5, hits 21st homer
Raul Ibanez went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBI Thursday against the Rangers.
That's seven homers in 10 games for Ibanez and 21 overall. That's tied for the fifth highest total of his career, and on a per-AB basis, he's way ahead of his career-best pace. He even has his average up to .257 now; it's the first time all season that his average has topped .250.

Wed Jun 26 201318:41Ibanez slugs 18th homer in M's loss to Bucs
Raul Ibanez launched his 18th home run of the season Wednesday in the Mariners' loss to the Pirates.
Ibanez is now on pace for 37 home runs, which would be rare territory for a 41-year-old. He has a weak .243 batting average and .289 on-base percentage, but the power outbursts have made him plenty valuable in fantasy leagues.

Sun Jun 23 201323:50Raul Ibanez homers twice in win
Raul Ibanez went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Sunday's win over the Athletics.
Both of the home runs came off Jarrod Parker. It was his second straight multi-hit game and he's now homered in back-to-back days. Ibanez is batting .250 (7-for-28) over his last seven contests.

Sun Jun 23 201302:16Ibanez goes 2-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBI
Raul Ibanez went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI.
It was the 41-year-old's 15th home run of the season after he slugged 19 last year. He's now batting .235/.278/.495 and remains an all-or-nothing plodding slugger who can help AL-only owners.

Tue Jun 11 201303:09Ibanez goes deep in win against Houston
Raul Ibanez hit a solo homer Monday in the win over the Astros.
It was the 41-year-old's only hit in four at-bats. Ibanez has morphed into an all-or-nothing threat in his old age, collecting 12 homers in just 160 at-bats. His .500 slugging percentage is stellar, but his average and OBP (.227 and .271, respectively), are Protozoa small. Ibanez has collected 19 extra-base hits in 2013 and just 17 singles.

Wed Jun 5 201301:50Raul Ibanez hits 11th homer in Mariners' win
Raul Ibanez had a two-run homer and a two-run double Tuesday in the win over the White Sox.
The Mariners are hitting, but it's probably not the best thing for the franchise's future that Ibanez, Jason Bay and free-agent-to-be Kendrys Morales are leading the charge. Ibanez has 11 homers in just 136 at-bats this year. He has more extra-base hits (18) than singles (14).

Tue Jun 4 201301:04Raul Ibanez hits one over the boards
Raul Ibanez belted a two-run homer in Monday's win over the White Sox.
Making a rare start against a left-hander, Ibanez took John Danks deep in the third inning, which put the Mariners ahead for good. The veteran has given the M's about all they could have hoped for this season, as he's batting .227 but with 10 dingers and 26 RBI.

Sat May 18 201316:27Ibanez's power surge continues Saturday
Raul Ibanez's recent power surge continued Saturday, as he launched a solo homer in a loss to the Indians.
Ibanez had two home runs through his first 19 games this season, but he now has six over his last seven. The 40-year-old shouldn't be owned in shallow mixed leagues, but he might be worth a try in deeper formats while he's hot.
