Sun Aug 2 201520:24Haren said he will probably retire after this season
Haren said he will probably retire after this season, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
Haren said during the offseason that he'd retire if the Marlins didn't trade him to a team in California, but he was ultimately convinced to give Miami a chance. Speaking Sunday, he left the door open to stick around for another year, saying he likely won't make a decision until he's had some rest after the season. Ultimately, his decision may depend on which teams are interested in signing him, as he wants to be close to his family in Southern California. As for the more immediate future, Haren will make his first start for the Cubs on Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

Haren is expected to make his first start for the Cubs on Wednesday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
Haren was added to the roster Saturday, but won't make his first start for the club until Wednesday. It's unclear how the Cubs plan to adjust the rotation around him, but the veteran hurler should continue to take the mound every fifth game moving forward.
Fri Jul 31 201513:36Dan Haren: Traded To Cubs
Haren was traded from the Marlins to the Cubs on Friday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
It's not clear who is going back to the Marlins in the deal, but Haren is on his way to the Cubs. He has been consistently effective all season, posting an ERA no higher than 4.06 in any month, and the Cubs are hopeful that he can continue that in a pennant race.

The Miami Marlins agreed to trade pitcher Dan Haren to the Chicago Cubs on Friday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Haren has a 3.42 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP in 129 innings this season and will add depth to the team's rotation as they attempt to secure a playoff berth.

Haren (7-7) took the loss Thursday against Washington despite allowing just one run on four hits and a pair of walks in six innings. He struck out four.
Haren's been a six-inning machine lately -- over his last nine starts, he's pitched six innings seven times. The other two times, he went 6.1 and 5.2 innings. Still, Haren's contact-heavy ways have yielded inconsistent results recently, and it's got to be a concern that he's given up six homers in his last three starts. He'll look to reverse that trend Tuesday against the Mets.

Haren allowed three runs on eight hits -- including three homers -- in a losing effort against the Padres on Friday night.
Other than the struggles with the long ball, Haren pitched well enough to keep the Marlins in the game Friday night. He may be on the move in the coming days, as the Marlins are far behind in the race for a Wild Card spot in the National League and his ability to take the ball every fifth day and chew up innings at a better than league average clip will likely be valued appropriately by clubs in need of improved rotation depth.

Haren went six innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out two batters in an 8-7 victory over the Marlins on Sunday.
The Phillies did most of their damage against Haren in the second inning, driving in five runs, including homers by Ryan Howard and Freddy Galvis, which nearly ended the 34-year-old's start prematurely. He bounced back in a big way, however, allowing just three men on base the rest of the way, repeatedly inducing weak flyouts and timely groundballs as he navigated through the order. While the number of hits allowed recently (28 hits in his last 23.2 innings) is a bit concerning, Haren has been able to work his way out of trouble for the most part, allowing just five runs in his previous three starts prior to Sunday's performance.

Haren (7-5) picked up the win Sunday, going six innings allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out three batters in an 8-1 victory over the Reds.
After a wild first inning which saw Haren give up a double, hit a batter, and then allow an RBI single to Todd Frazier, the 34-year-old bounced back, giving up just three more hits the rest of the way. He has now thrown back-to-back one run games, striking out eight batters in the process and has worked his ERA down to 3.24 with a WHIP of 1.07.

Haren spun six innings of one-run ball Tuesday against the Red Sox, but was left without a decision as the bullpen could not hold a 3-1 lead.
Haren logged his 12th quality start of the season, allowing six hits and one walk with five strikeouts on the evening and exited in position to win the game before the bullpen and some shoddy defense let the victory slip away. He's been a consistent asset for the Marlins and now owns a rock solid 3.34 ERA and 1.06 WHIP to go along with 76:19 K:BB ratio over 105 innings pitched. The veteran righty will take the hill next Sunday at home against Cincinnati.

Haren allowed 10 hits and four runs -- three earned -- in 5.2 innings Wednesday against the Giants. He struck out one and walked none in the no-decision.
Haren fared better at the plate, crossing up the Giants in the Marlins' three-run inning when he faked a bunt on a 2-2 pitch and instead swung and singled past the first baseman to drive in a run. Despite giving up 10 hits, Haren broke his streak of three consecutive losses and still maintains a respectable 3.45 ERA and 1.05 WHIP for the season. His next scheduled start will be Tuesday at Boston.

Haren (6-5) allowed four runs on seven hits in six plus innings Thursday against the Cardinals. He struck out six in the loss.
Haren has now lost three straight starts but still maintains a solid 3.38 ERA and 1.01 WHIP for the season. The 34-year-old broke his three-game streak of quality starts and he'll look to bounce back in his next scheduled start Wednesday against the Giants.

Haren allowed two runs on four hits, walking two and striking out six over 6.1 innings of a 5-0 loss to the Reds on Friday night.
Haren (6-4, 3.19 ERA) now has quality starts and tough-luck losses in his last two outings. He allowed a fourth inning home run to Marlon Byrd, but Steve Cishek gave up a pair of hits after taking over in the seventh inning to allow the second run to come across.

Haren took the loss Sunday, despite logging a quality start, yielding three earned runs over six innings against the Rockies.
Haren allowed home runs to Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado in the first inning before settling in, but the damage was done. He finished with five strikeouts and two walks, allowing just three hits on the afternoon. Haren has been rock solid for the Marlins, allowing three runs or fewer in nine of his last 10 starts. He'll carry a 3.22 ERA into his next start Friday in Cincinnati.

Haren allowed two runs on three hits and struck out seven over seven innings in Tuesday's loss to Toronto.
Although he exited the game with a 3-2 lead, an Edwin Encarnacion walk-off home run robbed Haren of a win. Over his seven frames, he only ran into trouble in the fourth following a double, single and consecutive sacrifice flies. Haren's fourth quality start in his last five games lowers his ERA to 3.12 as he faces Colorado at home on Sunday.

Haren (6-2) gave up six hits, walked two and hit a batter en route to allowing three runs in 5.2 innings Wednesday against the Cubs, but came away with the win.
He was shutting the Cubbies out into the sixth, but opened the door for a three-run rally in that inning and ended up falling short of a quality start. The stat line won't get many fantasy owners' hearts racing -- nor should it -- but Haren has won five his last six decisions in what's been a surprisingly effective season so far. He might run into some trouble his next time out, though, Tuesday against the powerful Blue Jays.

Haren picked up his fifth win of the season Friday over the Mets, tossing seven innings of two-run ball.
The veteran right-hander racked up four strikeouts while allowing just four hits and one walk. Outside of a tough outing in Los Angeles in early May, Haren has been fantastic for the Marlins, earning a quality start in three straight outings and five of his last six starts. Haren is now sitting with a 3.03 ERA and 1.04 WHIP to go along with a 43:12 K:BB ratio. He'll look to keep things rolling Wednesday at home against the Cubs.

Haren pitched six scoreless innings Saturday, allowing seven hits and three walks while striking out six in a 1-0 extra-inning win over the Orioles.
Haren was lucky not to give up any runs, as he was playing with fire every inning, working in and out of trouble. Nonetheless, for all intents and purposes, Haren has been the ace of the Marlins' injury-riddled staff this season. His next start comes Friday, when he travels to Citi Field to take on the struggling Mets.

Haren pitched well in a no-decision Monday, holding the Diamondbacks to two runs in eight innings.
Haren recovered from a six-run blow up in his last start to toss a gem against Arizona. The veteran has been strong this year, allowing more than two runs in a start just twice this year while posting a 3.47 ERA. His next start will come this weekend against the Orioles.

Haren struggled against his former team Tuesday, yielding six runs on 11 hits over just 4.1 innings pitched in a loss to the Dodgers.
He struck out four and walked none but allowed another couple of home runs in the abbreviated outing. Home runs have always been a concern for Haren and he's allowed eight long balls in his first seven starts this year. Still, the veteran right-hander holds a respectable 3.70 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 28 strikeouts and eight walks over 41.1 innings pitched. These types of outings are inevitable at this stage in his career, but Haren remains a very capable arm, tossing five quality starts in seven chances this year. His next start is currently slated for Monday against Arizona but the Marlins may alter their rotation a bit over the weekend if Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) is cleared to return.

Haren (4-1) pitched seven effective innings, allowing two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts, to pick up the win over the Giants on Thursday.
Haren did everything Thursday, driving in two runs, scoring two more and taking a shutout bid into the seventh. He hit a two-run double and scored later in the second and added a single and run scored in the fifth. He did the rest of his work on the mound, allowing two runs and eight hits in seven innings to extend his strong start to his Marlins career after contemplating retirement following his offseason trade from the Dodgers to Miami. Ironically, Haren's next start will be Tuesday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
