Klein was officially recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

Klein was already announced as the starter for Wednesday's matchup against the Red Sox, but now the move is official. He'll take Carlos Peguero's spot on the 25-man roster, and his stay with the Rangers could last if he shows the ability to get major league hitters out on a consistent basis.

Klein will get the start in place of Ross Detwiler (shoulder), who was placed on the disabled list Sunday. It's not clear if Klein will remain in the rotation beyond Wednesday, but he will get a chance to make his first big league start after appearing out of the bullpen in his 23 previous big league appearances. Klein posted a 1.69 ERA anc 15:11 K:BB ratio in 16 innings over six games, including two starts, with Triple-A Round Rock this season.

The Rangers skipped Klein from his start at Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, presumably to use in place of the injured Ross Detwiler on Wednesday against the Red Sox, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Other options for the Rangers could include Anthony Ranaudo or Chi Chi Gonzalez. Klein hasn't started in the big leagues and has only 16 innings at Round Rock in six outings (two starts), so if he does get the call he's unlikely to work deep into the game.

Klein was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock following Tuesday's game.

The 6-foot-7 righty made a whopping six appearances out of the Rangers' bullpen in a little over a week, managing a shaky 7.71 ERA. Anthony Ranaudo is being called up as a corresponding move.

Klein allowed three runs in one inning Tuesday in a loss to the Athletics, allowing a home run and walking one batter during that inning.

Klein only has 19 innings of MLB experience under his belt right now, but this certainly wasn't a great start to the season for him. He made 17 appearances for the Rangers last year in his rookie campaign, striking out 23 batters, walking 10 and finishing the year with an ERA of 2.84.

Klein will likely make the Rangers' Opening Day roster, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The Rangers will have both Kyuji Fujikawa and Tanner Scheppers return from the DL later this season, so Klein's hold on the spot isn't secure.

Klein's contract was purchased from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Klein was dominant in the minors this season between Double-A and Triple-A this season, posting below a 1.00 ERA in both and pitching 18.1 scoreless innings at the Triple-A level. He will now get his chance to showcase his stuff at the major league level after being called up Friday, as he will replace Ryan Feierabend in the Rangers' bullpen.
