The St. Louis Cardinals activated infielder Jhonny Peralta from the 10-day disabled list prior to Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants.Rookie outfielder Magneuris Sierra was optioned to Double-A Springfield in a corresponding move.Peralta, who has been sidelined since April 17 with upper respiratory issues, batted just .120 with three singles in 25 at-bats this season. The 34-year-old fared significantly better in three games with Triple-A Memphis, hitting .364 with a double and two RBIs.Sierra, who made his major-league debut on May 7, has hit safely in all seven games with St. Louis this season. The 21-year-old is hitting .376 with eight runs scored.

The Boston Red Sox recalled right-hander Noe Ramirez from Triple-A Pawtucket prior to Friday's game against the Oakland Athletics.Left-hander Robbie Ross was optioned to Pawtucket in a corresponding move.Ramirez struck out one batter and did not allow a hit in 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief against the Detroit Tigers on April 8. The 27-year-old has posted an 0-1 mark with two saves and a 2.53 ERA in nine relief appearances this season with Pawtucket.Ross has yielded seven runs on 12 hits in nine innings over eight appearances this season with the Red Sox. The 27-year-old owns a 16-12 career mark with six saves and a 3.92 ERA in 266 games (12 starts) with the Texas Rangers and Red Sox.Ross has allowed one run on one hit in six appearances with Pawtucket this season.

CF Darrell Ceciliani had to leave Thursday's game against the Braves after injuring his left shoulder while hitting a two-run homer in the third inning. He suffered a possible partial separation and will be examined further Friday. The homer was his first of the season and he also had a RBI double in the first inning. Ceciliani got a start in place of suspended CF Kevin Pillar.

RHP Aaron Sanchez (0-1, 2.95 ERA) should be ready for a full workload of pitches on Friday at Baltimore as he rebuilds his arm strength after two short stints on the disabled list. He allowed just one unearned run over five innings in a no-decision against Seattle last Sunday, throwing 78 pitches in his first outing since April 30. Sanchez is 5-3 with a 4.31 ERA in 14 career games (nine starts) against the Orioles.

CF Kevin Pillar, batting .305, was suspended by the Blue Jays without pay for two games on Thursday for shooting a homophobic slur at Braves reliever Jason Motte after striking out on a quick pitch in the seventh inning Wednesday. Pillar will be eligible for reinstatement Saturday when the Blue Jays play in Baltimore. Pillar acknowledged directing the slur at Motte and apologized Thursday for its usage. Benches emptied after the exchange. Pillar was fined an undisclosed amount and will forfeit about $6,000 in salary.

RHP R.A. Dickey (3-3, 4.22 ERA) faces the Nationals for the second time at SunTrust Park this season on Friday night. He lost 3-2 on April 20 despite giving up just three hits over seven innings. One was a two-run homer by Ryan Zimmerman in the sixth inning. Dickey is 4-8 with a 3.69 ERA in 17 career outings (15 starts) against the Nationals.

RHP Marcus Stroman (4-2, 3.00 ERA) improved to 6-2 in interleague games and hit only the second home run by a Blue Jays pitcher in history Thursday against the Braves. He worked 5 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out six, walking one and giving up seven hits. Stroman, who had a pinch-hit double in St. Louis in April, connected for his homer in the third inning off RHP Julio Teheran.

RHP Julio Teheran (3-4, 5.47 ERA) lost his fourth straight home start, giving up a career-worst nine runs over three-plus innings against the Blue Jays on Thursday. In the losses, he has surrendered 26 runs over 18 innings, giving up 30 hits and nine homers. Teheran is 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA in four road starts and 1-4 with a 10.50 ERA in five home outings.

CF Lorenzo Cain returned to the lineup after leaving in the fifth inning Wednesday after hurting his left wrist while diving for a ball. He went 0-for-4 and 1-for-10 in the series against the Yankees. Cain tops the American League with 11 stolen bases without being caught.

3B Mike Moustakas hit his 10th home run, but only his second this year off a left-hander. He is the only player on the team with more than two RBIs in a game this season. He had three RBIs Thursday against the Yankees and four on Sunday against the Orioles. He is hitting .300 with two home runs and eight RBIs in a seven-game hitting streak.

LHP Danny Duffy struck out 10, his fourth career game of double-figure strikeouts. The previous was Sept. 7 at Minnesota. Duffy gave up just three hits over seven scoreless innings. The Yankees went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position off him. "We had a couple of chances, but weren't able to get hits in those chances," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Duffy did a really good job."

LF Alex Gordon has reached base safely in five of his past seven plate-appearances -- three singles and two walks -- to snap out of a 1-for-32 slump. Gordon, however, was not in the lineup Thursday against Yankees LHP Jordan Montgomery. Manager Ned Yost said with the club facing lefties in back-to-back games it was a good day to give Gordon a rest and he would be back in the outfield Friday against Minnesota LHP Hector Santiago. Gordon is hitting .168 with five extra-base hits, all doubles, and seven RBIs in 131 at-bats. "The thing I think that is forgotten a little bit is Alex is helping us win games with his defense," Yost said. "There's a lot of focus on his offense. Alex is an All-Star caliber player He's always been productive with the bat as well as with the glove. The focus with us is to help us win a ballgame and Alex has done that defensively."

RHP Ian Kennedy, who is on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring, will likely be activated and start Saturday at Minnesota. "He feels OK today," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "We're still kind of looking at it. We'll probably make some kind of determination some time tomorrow, to see where we're at."

RHP Luis Severino will start Friday at Tampa Bay in the opener of a three-game series. He became the third pitcher in Yankees' history to strike out at least 10 and issue no more than one walk in consecutive games: April 13 vs. the Rays and April 18 vs. the White Sox. The Yankees are 4-3 in his starts. He is 4-1 with a 3.26 ERA in eight games, four of them starts, against the Rays. He is 2-0 with a 0.82 in four games, including one start, at Tampa Bay.

RF Aaron Judge had two singles in the loss Thursday. Judge is 9-for-22 in a five-game hitting streak. He tops the American League with 14 home runs and 32 runs, while his .713 slugging percentage ranks second.

CF Brett Gardner was not in the starting lineup, but flied out to left field as a pinch hitter to end the game. Gardner has reached base in his past 20 starts, hitting .313 with seven home runs. His seven homers in 131 at-bats match his 2016 total in 547 at-bats.

RHP Ervin Santana (6-2) gave up five runs in seven innings in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader. It was just the second time this season Santana allowed more than one run. In the process, Santana say his league-leading ERA rise from 1.50 to 2.07, which is now third in the league. Santana walked four and struck out three, the second straight game he's had more walks than strikeouts. Santana recovered to retire nine of the last 10 batters he faced over his final three innings.

RHP Jose Berrios (2-0) had the best outing of his short major league career on Thursday, striking out a career-high 11 Colorado batters and giving up just two hits and one walk in 7 2/3 innings. Berrios controlled his fastball and kept the Rockies off balance with a devastating slider. He held Colorado hitless through four innings and struck out seven of the first 13 batters he faced. He hit two batters in the game but stranded them early. Rockies 1B Ian Desmond compared Berrios to former Miami Marlins phenom Jose Fernandez. Berrios' 11 strikeouts were the most by a Twins pitcher since Ervin Santana had 10 against the Kansas City Royals on Aug. 21, 2016.

RF Jason Heyward (right finger sprain) began a rehab assignment with Class A South Bend on Thursday, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Heyward was placed on the 10-day disabled list May 8 retroactive to May 6.

1B Joe Mauer had a hit in each game of Thursday's doubleheader to extend his current hit streak to a season-high seven games. He is batting .333 (9 for 27) during the streak. Minnesota manager Paul Molitor also credited Mauer's work at first base as a big component of the Twins' overall improved defense.
