INF Eric Sogard has some amazing numbers since being promoted from Triple-A Colorado Springs last Friday ... like a .588 batting average, a .682 on-base percentage and a 1.118 slugging percentage for a 1.800 OPS. Over the past four days at Petco Park, Sogard, who was the Padres' second-round pick in the 2007 draft, had two four-hit games in the series. He was 4-for-4 Thursday with a double, a walk and drove in the first three runs scored by the Brewers. He was 9-for-15 in the series with the two doubles, a homer, five RBIs, four runs scored and two walks -- reaching base 11 times in 17 plate appearances. "I don't think I've ever been this hot," said Sogard, who is 10-for-17 with three doubles, two homers, seven RBIs, four walks, a stolen base and a hit-by-pitch with five runs scored since being promoted.

RHP Zach Davies allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts Thursday afternoon to improve to 5-2 on the season. But Thursday's outing was Davies' first quality start of the season. His earned run average coming into the game was 5.80. "Davies kept us in there today," said Brewers manager Craig Counsell.

3B Travis Shaw was 1-for-3 with a walk Thursday. Despite missing the first two games of the series with a sprained index finger on his right hand, Shaw extended his career-long hitting streak to nine games. Shaw is 13-for-35 (.371) with two homers and nine RBIs during the streak.

RHP Lisalverto Bonilla (0-1, 4.85 ERA) makes his third appearance and second start of the season on Friday as the Reds host Colorado to open a three-game weekend series. It will be his first career appearance against the Rockies. He started the Reds' 3-1 loss at San Francisco on May 13 and threw a career-high eight innings.

SS Zack Cozart was 2-for-5 but missed a shot at history. A home run would have made him the only player to ever hit homers in six consecutive games at Wrigley Field. His five homers shared the all-time lead with six other players entering Thursday's game. He's just the third visiting team player with homers in five consecutive games.

2B Javier Baez was 3-for-3 with five RBIs, including a grand slam home run in the first inning, the Cubs' second of the season. It was his third career grand slam and second game with at least five RBIs. He had a career-best six last season against Pittsburgh. The Baez blast was the Cubs' fourth in the first inning since 2000, also done by Aramis Ramirez (2005), Mark DeRosa (2007) and Junior Lake (2013).

LHP Jon Lester (2-2) picked up his second win of the season and earned his fourth quality start in his six-plus inning effort. He no 2-0 with a 3.94 ERA in five career home starts against Cincinnati -- all Cubs victories -- and has pitched at least six innings in all five starts. Since Sept. 15, 2015 he has allowed seven or fewer hits and three or fewer earned runs in all 21 of his Wrigley Field starts, the longest streak in ballpark history.

3B Kris Bryant (1-for-4) slugged a solo home run in the fourth inning and now has hit safely in 16 of his 19 home games against the Reds. Overall, he has hit .356 with seven homers, seven doubles, 17 RBIs and 10 walks against Cincinnati. His 12 career homers against the Reds are the most against any one opponent.

RHP Eddie Butler (1-0 0.00 ERA) makes his second start on Friday since joining the Cubs last week. Butler, was acquired by the Cubs in a February trade with Colorado, has no record against the Brewers in two career starts, including an Oct. 1, 2016 appearance for the Rockies as he worked 2 1/3 innings of relief. It will be his second career start at Wrigley Field -- and first as a Cub. Butler picked up the win on July 29, 2015 after throwing five innings while allowing three earned runs on five hits.

RF Ben Zobrist was 2-for-4 and extended an on-base streak to 17 consecutive games, including an RBI single in the fifth inning. He batted leadoff for the third time this season. The Cubs are 2-1 when he bats first.

LF Robbie Grossman had two hits and an RBI in Thursday's second game of the doubleheader to snap his personal 0-for-12 streak. It was Grossman's sixth multi-hit game of the season. He also stole his first base of the season.

LHP Martin Perez matched his career high with eight strikeouts Thursday. It was fourth time Perez struck out and eight and first since April 18th, 2014 against the Chicago White Sox. Perez earned his 1st victory since 4/9 vs. Oakland, snapping a four-game losing streak. This was Perez' fifth career start of seven or more innings and zero walks, the first time he has accomplished that feat since September 19th, 2016. Perez received eight runs of support after a total of 11 runs in his first eight starts this season. He has delivered a quality start in each of his first three outings in May, going 1-1 with a 2.79 ERA (6 ER/19.1 IP) and 16 strikeouts to just two walks.

3B Nolan Arenado hit his 10th homer of the season, a first-inning shot to the second deck in left field in Thursday's first game of the doubleheader. Arenado is hitting 16-for-31 (.516) with five doubles, four homers and 13 RBIs in the first inning this season. He added one of the team's three hits in Thursday's nightcap and is hitting .299 this season.

SS Trevor Story will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Colorado manager Bud Black announced before Thursday's doubleheader. Story (left shoulder strain) has hit with the team and fielded ground balls to test his non-throwing shoulder and had no issues. Story is hitting .180 this season with six homers and 15 RBIs in 33 games.

RHP Tyler Chatwood (3-6) walked a season-high five batters and surrendered five hits and two runs for the Rockies in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader. Chatwood struggled with control and was working on some mechanical adjustments during the game but later scrapped the adjustments after the poor start. He said he would take the adjustments to a bullpen session. Chatwood had been 1-2 with a 3.98 ERA on the road this season and said he held Minnesota to two runs despite the five walks. His season-long ERA is now 5.09.

RHP Buck Farmer was recalled from Triple-A Toledo after Thursday's game. Farmer has started eight games with the Mud Hens this season, posting a 1-2 record and 3.51 ERA. He'll be used in long relief situations for a bullpen that was taxed during the Orioles series. Farmer has appeared in 32 games with Detroit, including eight starts, over the last three seasons, going 0-6 with a 6.84 ERA.

UT Michael Martinez, designated for assignment by the Indians earlier this week, was acquired by the Rays on Thursday in a cash transactions. Martinez appeared in 15 games for Cleveland this season, and went 4-for-11 (.364).

LHP Xavier Cedeno (left forearm tightness) was transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL on Thursday. The Rays hope that he will return in the second half of the season.

2B Brad Miller (left abdominal strain) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Thursday. He isn't expected to be sidelined long term.

C Travis d'Arnaud (sore right wrist) began a rehab assignment with Class A St. Lucie on Thursday, going 2-for-4. He has been out since May 3.
