RHP Pedro Beato (hamstring) was sent on a rehab assignment to Class-A Clearwater. He pitched only one game with Philadelphia this season, retiring both batters he faced.

RHP Max Scherzer is slated to pitch the second game Sunday for the Nationals. Scherzer threw a complete game against the Giants in May in San Francisco as he gave up five hits and one earned run in nine innings as the Nationals swept the three-game series. The St. Louis native is 3-4 with a 4.76 ERA in seven career starts against the Giants. Four members of the Giants have homers against Scherzer: Brandon Crawford (2-for-9 overall), former Washington center fielder Denard Span (6-for-26), Pablo Sandoval (2-for-8) and Hunter Pence (2-for-8).

RHP Stephen Strasburg (right elbow nerve impingement) will make a rehab start Monday for Class-A Potomac of the Carolina League in Woodbridge, Va., he told reporters Saturday. Strasburg (10-3, 3.25 ERA) has been on the disabled list since July 27. Strasburg threw 57 pitches in a simulated game Wednesday and said the elbow "feels really good." Nationals pitching coach Mike Maddux said Saturday that Strasburg is slated for five innings or 75 pitches Monday. The San Diego native has been sidelined since pitched two scoreless innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 23. He went on the disabled list four days later.

SS Tim Beckham went 4-for-5 with a career-high three doubles and three RBIs in a 12-5 rout of the Oakland Athletics on Saturday night at the Oakland Coliseum. Beckham extended his hitting streak to a career-high matching 12 games to begin his Orioles career and is batting .531 since being traded to Baltimore from Tampa Bay on July 31. Beckham has seven doubles, two triples, three home runs and nine RBIs with the Orioles. "It's fun," said Beckham, who also scored three runs. "You're playing good and your team's playing winning baseball. It's always fun. That's the end goal. The end goal is to win ball games and be in the playoffs. That's what we're shooting for."

OF Jarrett Parker, a former University of Virginia product, appeared at Nationals Park for the first time Saturday. He started in left and hit third for the Giants and got a bloop single in the first inning. He ended up 1-for-4 and has hit well since coming off the disabled list earlier this month.

OF Arismendy Alcantara was designated for assignment Saturday, clearing the way for RHP Scott Feldman to come off the disabled list and start against the Brewers. Alcantara appeared in 70 games for the Reds, batting .171 with a home run and seven RBI.

C Stephen Vogt went 1-for-3 on Saturday in his second game of a minor league rehab stint with Class-A Wisconsin. Vogt played the field for the first time and threw out a pair of runners. He's expected to serve as the designated hitter Sunday and move on to Triple-A Colorado Springs after that, with an eye on returning to the Brewers next weekend.

3B Kris Bryant is having a series to remember in Arizona. Bryant has reached base nine times in 10 plate appearances in the series on five singles, a double, two walks and a hit-by-pitch. He was 3-for-4 Saturday with two RBIs; his only out in the series was a fly ball in the seventh with two on and two outs. "I feel better mentally -- it's all mental in this game, it's a matter of clearing the mind and feeling good in that area," Bryant said. "Sometimes it carries over and sometimes it doesn't, and right now it is."

RHP Ian Kennedy received a no-decision Saturday against the White Sox after allowing three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out seven as his ERA barely nudged from 4.83 to 4.80. Kansas City manager Ned Yost said he was impressed with Kennedy's outing. "He threw the ball extremely well," Yost said.

OF Yasmany Tomas (.241, 8 HR, 32 RBIs) has missed half of the season with a troublesome groin injury that won't seem to heal. He was pulled out of a rehabilitation assignment last month when he aggravated the injury. Manager Torey Lovullo said Tomas is having trouble with"the pounding of running" and making turns. Tomas took some at-bats during LHP Robbie Ray's simulated game Saturday and may be closer to returning - though, during his absence, the Diamondbacks acquired RF J.D. Martinez. "He took some good swings off him and base ran afterward," Lovullo said. "We want to get him in a game as soon as possible. When it's trending toward that, I don't exactly know now."

2B Phil Gosselin was claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh. He was assigned to Triple-A Round Rock.

CF Charlie Blackmon went 4-for-5 on Saturday against the Marlins. He leads the majors in runs (105), triples (13), multi-hit games (51) and total bases (291). He also leads the NL with 159 hits. He ranks second in the NL with 64 extra-base hits, trailing teammate Nolan Arenado by one. Teammates have only finished 1-2 in the majors in extra-base hits three times: Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in 1926 and 1927 and Tony Armas and Dwight Evans for the 1984 Boston Red Sox.

1B Freddie Freeman went 3-for-5 with a two-run single in the ninth that drew the Braves within a run and even stole his seventh base, but it went for naught anyway. It was his fifth three-hit game of the season and his first since April 29 in Milwaukee. Freeman has produced great numbers despite missing about six weeks due to injury, hitting .319 with 21 homers and 48 RBI in just 70 games.

RHP Michael Wacha gets the call Sunday when St. Louis finishes its weekend series and short homestand with Atlanta. Wacha registered a 10-3 win Tuesday night in Kansas City, giving up three runs and six hits over six innings with a pair of walks and five strikeouts. In his career against the Braves, Wacha is 0-1 with a 3.07 ERA in four outings, including a no-decision on May 7 in Atlanta.

RHP Chris Archer lasted only 5 1/3 innings before leaving with 111 pitches -- he had a streak of 15 straight starts with at least six innings that ended. Archer continues to get strikeouts well -- eight Saturday -- but longer outings would help the Rays and their bullpen more than strikeouts.

1B Lucas Duda went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. He is 0-for-12 in his last three games after reaching base in the first nine contests after he was traded from the Mets at the deadline. He's hitting .148 over his last nine games.

RF Jose Bautista was 0-for-2 on Saturday with two walks, a hit by pitch, and two runs in a 7-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has 770 runs with the Blue Jays, putting him into third place on the all-time list behind CF Vernon Wells (789) and Carlos Delgado (889).

OF Andrew McCutchen (left patellofemoral discomfort) did not play Saturday after leaving the game Friday because of a sore knee, but he could run and hit before the game.

INF-OF IF/OF Arismendy Alcantara was designed for assignment on Saturday by the Cincinnati Reds.

RF Gregory Polanco of the Pirates left with a leg injury in the fifth inning of Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Polanco limped off the field after charging a bloop single by Josh Donaldson in the bottom of the fifth. Sean Rodriguez entered the game to play left field and John Jaso moved from left field to right.
