2B Dustin Pedroia returned to the 10-day disabled list with left knee inflammation after just one game and four at-bats.Prior to Saturday afternoon's game against the New York Yankees, the Red Sox announced the move, retroactive to Aug. 9. Pedroia is on the DL for a third time this season.

RHP Chris Hatcher is expected to be activated Sunday after missing the past seven weeks with thoracic inflammation in his throwing shoulder. Hatcher is 0-1 with a 4.66 ERA in 36 2/3 innings this season and should give Los Angeles additional depth at long relief.

RHP Mark Melancon (right pronator strain) was activated Saturday by the Giants, entered in the eighth inning and did not allow a run. That was the perfect spot for the veteran, manager Bruce Bochy said after the 3-1 loss. The former Washington closer threw one inning and fanned two Wednesday for High-A San Jose in a minor league rehab outing. He is 1-2 with a 4.35 ERA with 11 saves in 22 games this year for the Giants.

RF Andre Ethier made the first appearance of his rehab assignment with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday, finishing 0-for-3 with two fly outs and a strikeout. Ethier, 35, has not played this season because of a back injury.

1B Adrian Gonzalez will begin a rehab assignment with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga next week. Gonzalez, 35, was the Dodgers everyday first baseman the past four seasons, but hasn't played since June 11 because of a back ailment.

LHP Clayton Kershaw is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday, his second in three days since going on the 10-day disabled list July 24 with a back ailment.

RHP Jhoulys Chacin came into Saturday's start with the highest road ERA in the majors at 7.36, but allowed one run in five innings to lower that mark to 6.90. Chacin holds the lowest ERA in the majors at home (1.86) this season.

RF Hunter Renfroe went 1-for-5 with an RBI double against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night and is hitting .333 with a home run, five doubles and two RBIs against Los Angeles this season.

RF Mitch Haniger (face) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday. After making it through another round of BP and on-field workouts Friday, Haniger is now ready to DH with Tacoma in his first competitive action since being hit in the face by a pitch two weeks ago.

1B Wil Myers hit his third straight opposite-field home run on Saturday night and his 24th of the season. Prior to his last three home runs, Myers had not hit an opposite-field home run since April 6 against the Dodgers, which was his first home run of the season.

RHP David Phelps, on the disabled list since Aug. 8 with a right elbow impingement, has played catch the past two days. "Thumbs up on that," manager Scott Servais said. "Saw him out there throwing and it looked free and easy ... it's moving in the right direction."

RF Cesar Puello was designated for assignment by the Angels on Saturday. He was bumped to create room on the 40-man and active rosters for Andrew Bailey (shoulder). Puello was called up earlier in the week and went 1 for 4 with an RBI and two stolen bases in his big-league debut. The 26-year-old figures to return to Triple-A Salt Lake if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

RHP Christian Bergman was selected from Triple-A Tacoma and added to the 40-man roster. Bergman went 4-4 with a 5.44 in nine appearances for the Mariners earlier this season, including eight starts. He pitched a scoreless ninths Saturday, getting a rare 1-6-5-4 double play after giving up a leadoff double. "Obviously, he had some really good games for us when he was here, and he had some that he struggled," manager Scott Servais said. "But it's kind of trying to make as many available down there for when we need him, which is really exciting if you're in Triple-A knowing that you have chance to come back and impact this year in important innings and important games."

RHP Andrew Moore was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, just one day after being recalled. The rookie made his first career relief appearance Friday night, allowing four runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings as the Los Angeles Angels rallied from a four-run deficit to tie the score. 1B Yonder Alonso, acquired Aug. 6 in a trade with Oakland, was involved in two key plays Saturday, one on defense and the other on the basepaths. In the top of the fifth inning, the Angels' C.J. Cron led off with a double to left-center field, but it appeared he'd be stranded when Luiis Valbuena grounded out and Martin Maldonado flied out to shallow right. Cron, who had moved to third on the groundout, scored when Kaleb Cowart, the No. 9 batter in the lineup, hit a grounder to Alonso at first base. Although he had plenty of time to make an underhand toss to Ramirez, Alonso tried to flip the ball from his glove. The flip was high and caromed off Ramirez's glove, allowing Cowart to reach on the error and the Angels to pull within 2-1. "He had more time than he thought he had," Mariners manager Scott Servais said of Alonso. 1B Joey Votto singled in the 10th inning Saturday, extending his hitting streak to 17 games which tied a career high. Votto's streak is the longest active run in the majors. During that stretch, he's reached base in at least twice in every contest.

3B Adsrubal Cabrera is hitting .366 with eight home runs against the Phillies in his career with the Mets.

OF Yoenis Cespedes has 10 home runs in 18 games at Citizens Bank Park, the most he has in any visiting ballpark.

2B Neil Walker is expected to arrive in Milwaukee on Sunday and join the Brewers for their series finale against the Reds at Miller Park. The Brewers acquired Walker and cash from the Mets on Saturday in exchange for a player to be named later. Walker, a .264 hitter this season, is expected to shore up second base where the Brewers have posted a .672 OPS, the worst in the National League. Walker is 6-for-9 with a home run and two RBIs in his last two games.
