RHP Adam Wainwright was activated from the disabled list. Wainwright, 36, has been absent since mid-August due to a right elbow impingement.

DETROIT -- Oakland A's right-hander Jharel Cotton was a late scratch with a right groin strain ahead of his scheduled start against the Detroit Tigers on Monday night at Comerica Park.Cotton has made 23 starts this season, going 8-10 with a 5.81 ERA. Cotton pitched five innings in his last start against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday, collecting a win after giving up three runs on six hits.Raul Alcantara stepped in as the emergency starter. Alcantara is 0-1 with a 12.27 ERA in five appearances, including one start, this season.

MIAMI -- Giancarlo Stanton drilled his major-league-leading 55th homer to lead the Miami Marlins to a 13-1 win over the New York Mets on Monday.It was Miami's first game at Marlins Park since Sept. 6, with three contests were moved to Milwaukee due to Hurricane Irma. The Marlins won for just the fourth time in their past 21 games.Stanton's homer traveled 455 feet and was clocked at 114 mph. He went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs. 2B Dustin Pedroia had to leave Monday's game in the fourth inning after fouling a ball that bounced off home plate and hit him around the nose. The Red Sox said later that the injury was a nasal contusion. "He's sore; he was bleeding pretty good and that got him flush, right square in the nose," manager John Farrell said. "We'll see where he's at tomorrow."

DH/1B Hanley Ramirez (sore arm) will be back in the Baltimore series, manager John Farrell said before Monday's game. Ramirez has been bothered by a variety of issues in recent weeks. It's not likely he'll be at first base when he returns. He did pinch-hit in Monday's victory, going 0-for-1.

RF Mookie Betts (right thumb contusion) started Monday's game after coming out early from Sunday's loss in Tampa Bay due to that injury. X-rays were negative, and Betts returned to the lineup and went 2-for-6 with four RBIs in the 10-8 victory over Baltimore Monday, getting his 600th career hit in his 500th career game. In addition, Betts now has 999 career bases.

SS Xander Bogaerts had been hot lately but slid into an 0-for-10 funk. He broke that in the seventh inning of Monday's game with a game-tying solo homer off LHP Donnie Hart. Bogaerts has scored at least one run in five of his last seven games and drew three walks in this contest.

RHP Doug Fister had been doing well before his last start, where he allowed six runs in four innings versus Oakland. Those troubles continued Monday against the Orioles, when he walked five and allowed five runs on four hits in two innings plus three batters but still escaped with a no-decision.

SS Tim Beckham has cooled off a bit since his hot start after the Orioles acquired him from Tampa Bay at the trade deadline. Still, he keeps coming through. He did it again Monday, going 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and one RBI.

DH Pedro Alvarez hit 22 homers with the Orioles last year but spent this summer with Triple-A Norfolk. However, his contract was selected from the Tides on Sept. 1, and Alvarez delivered his first homer of the year in the fifth inning, a solo blast off LHP Fernando Abad. Alvarez went 3-for-3 with two walks and reached base in all five plate appearances.

RHP Dylan Bundy has pitched well throughout this season and began Monday night's game with three easy innings. But he gave up a run in the fourth and five more in the fifth before being pulled after 4 1/3 innings. Bundy was frustrated, especially because the Orioles had given him leads of 5-0 and 6-1. "I let things slip away from me," Bundy said. "I didn't really limit the damage very well, obviously. I was just leaving balls over the middle of the plate, and they made me pay for them."

CF Adam Jones missed two of the last three games of the series with the Yankees in New York due to soreness in various spots but returned to center field Monday. He helped at the plate, walking and scoring in the third and also adding an RBI single in the fourth.

SS Miguel Rojas, who suffered a strained left shoulder on Sunday while diving for a ball, will miss the series against the Mets. Rojas, a slick fielder, is batting .270. However, he has little pop or speed and just a .654 OPS. In four major league seasons, he has three homers and four steals.

RHP Brad Ziegler (back) hopes to return next week. Ziegler, who turns 38 next month, is 1-4 with 5.02 ERA and nine saves. Ziegler has been incredibly inconsistent this year, posting ERAs of 0.71 in 13 April games; 15.00 in 12 May games; 6.14 in nine June games; 0.00 in 13 July appearances; and 13.50 in three September games.

RHP Odrisamer Despaigne (0-3, 4.35 ERA) will start Tuesday against the Mets. Looking for his first major-league win since 2015, Despaigne has made 15 appearances this year, including five starts. His WHIP is high at 1.500, mostly due to a poor walk rate (5.0 per nine innings). Against the Mets, he is 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in four career appearances, including two starts.

RHP Dan Straily (10-9) beat the New York Mets on Monday and reached double figures in wins for the second straight season. He held the Mets to three hits and one run in five innings, striking out eight and walked four.

RHP Noah Syndergaard (torn lat muscle) threw a simulated game on Monday and could return within one week. He hasn't pitched since April 30. After going 14-9 with a 2.60 ERA in a dominant 2016 season, "Thor" has taken a step back. He is just 1-2 this season with a 3.29 ERA.

RHP Matt Harvey was hit hard by the Marlins on Monday. Harvey (5-6) allowed a season-high 12 hits, two walks and seven runs in four innings. The seven runs tied his season high and drove his ERA to 6.59. In four starts since returning from the disabled list, he has accumulated a 13.19 ERA. He has allowed 18 homers in 17 starts.

LHP Daniel Norris could return to the starting rotation before the end of the season, manager Brad Ausmus said on Monday. "We're talking about it," Ausmus said. Norris pitched three innings of relief on Saturday and gave up two runs on four hits to the Chicago White Sox. He also tossed three innings against Cleveland on Wednesday and gave up one run on two hits. Norris was the No. 4 starter in the rotation the first three months before his season was sidetracked by groin and hip injuries.

2B Chase Utley returned to Philadelphia for the second series since leaving the team for which he played parts of 13 seasons. Utley, who was greeted with a long ovation, didn't quite have the return he did last season, when he homered twice in his first game back. Utley was 0-for-2 with two strikeouts before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the seventh.
