OF Chris Taylor slugged an inside-the-park home run to lead off the game Monday, a game in which the Dodgers would eventually lose 4-3 in Philadelphia. Taylor, who also singled Monday, became the second player to hit a leadoff inside-the-park homer this season. The home run was Taylor's 20th on the year.

3B Justin Turner connected on a first-inning home run to make it back-to-back blasts to open the game in an eventual 4-3 loss in Philadelphia. Turner's homer was No. 21 on the season. The 32-year-old is still six shy of last season's 27, the most he's hit in a season. His 140 hits are 13 shy of his career high, which also came last season.

OF Max Kepler was not in the starting lineup Monday because the Yankees started LHP Jaime Garcia. He drew a walk against RHP Dellin Betance but is unlikely to start against LHP CC Sabathia Tuesday. Kepler is hitting .243 but his average is brought down by a .132 mark (14-for-106) against lefties. "It just hasn't gone well, and I need to consider my best options on a given day right now," Twins manager Paul Molitor said before Monday's game. "That's not a knock. Anybody you pick to play, you're going to have to make tough choices." Last season, Kepler batted .203 (24-for-118) against left-handed pitching.

LHP Clayton Kershaw looked every bit the perennial Cy Young Award candidate for much of Monday night's game. However, a few mistakes turned a potential win into a loss. Kershaw took a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning but unraveled, eventually allowing his first career grand slam in an eventual 4-3 loss in Philadelphia. Kershaw surrendered four hits and struck out six over six innings.

3B Miguel Sano (left shin) was in New York to deal with a personal matter. Sano did some exercises on his own Monday is expected to fly back to Minnesota Tuesday to continue his rehab. Sano missed his 29th game and could return by the end of Minnesota's road trip.

RHP Ervin Santana took his first loss since July 21 when he allowed two runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. He ended a 10-game unbeaten streak, which matched the longest run by a Minnesota starter since the 2011 season. RHP Tyler Duffey also went 10 straight starts without a loss from Aug. 15, 2015-April 24, 2016. The last Twin to go 11 straight starts without losing was LHP Francisco Liriano July 16-Sept. 14, 2010. Santana, who is 6-10 against the Yankees, is lined up to potentially start the wild card game in New York. After Monday, he did his best to downplay it, saying: "Of course - it's just another game. "I don't keep track of what I do here, what I do over there. I just try to keep it one pitch at a time, just trying to do my best."

RHP Jose Berrios makes his 23rd start Tuesday when the Twins continue their three-game series at New York. Berrios is 12-7 with a 3.84 ERA this season and 0-1 with 4.07 ERA in his last three outings. Berrios last pitched Thursday and did not get a decision against the Toronto Blue Jays when he allowed one run on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. Berrios made his first career start against the Yankees July 19 in Minnesota when he allowed one run and six hits in 6 2/3 innings.

RHP Jeff Ferrell was struck in the head with a Ryon Healy line drive in the eighth inning against Oakland on Monday. He was immediately removed from the game. Ferrell underwent a CT scan, but was alert and responsive while undergoing concussion tests, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Ferrell was making his 11th relief appearance of the season. He spent most of the season with Triple-A Toledo, appearing in 41 games.

2B Jed Lowrie established a new career high with his 46th double of the season on Monday. The run-scoring extra-base hit left him just one shy of the franchise record for doubles, set by Jason Giambi in 2001. Lowrie drove in three runs and now has 59 RBIs for the season. "Probably as consistent in any year he's ever had," manager Bob Melvin said of Lowrie. "He's been healthy and durable, playing a lot of games, and the doubles and production speak for itself."

SS Marcus Semien gave the club a spark from the leadoff spot on Monday, smacking two hits and scoring three times. He's hitting .258 in the last 15 games, 13 in the leadoff spot. Semien has scored 46 runs in 74 games after returning from a wrist injury that sidelined him until early July. He's batting .251 with a .334 on-base percentage.

RHP Raul Alcantara pitched 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball in an emergency start at Detroit on Monday. He got the unexpected call after Jharel Cotton suffered a groin strain during warmups. Alcantara had only made two relief appearances since his September callup. "I was going inning by inning," he said through an interpreter. "Pitching one inning at a time and see how far I could go. It felt really good to throw 3 2/3 innings of shutout ball."

SS Freddy Galvis notched his 43rd multi-hit game of the season in a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. Galvis finished 2-for-4 with two singles and a run scored. His average is up to .257 on the season.

INF Dusty Coleman was designated for assignment Monday. Coleman supplied a reliable glove in the middle of the infield during his brief stay. Coleman hit .227 in 27 games.

RHP Jose Valdez was designated for assignment Monday after having a rough stint with the Padres. In 13 games he had a 7.94 ERA.

INF Christian Villanueva made his debut in the majors on Monday and was hitless in three at-bats. The Padres purchased his contract from Triple-A El Paso before the game. He hit .296 with El Paso, and his 86 RBIs led the team.

OF Travis Jankowski was recalled from Triple-A El Paso Monday after missing 130 games with a bruised foot and then spending most of the year in the minors. He'll get some playing time in left and center after hitting .265 for El Paso. In his first stint up this year he hit .160 in 17 games.

OF Hunter Renfroe was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Monday. Renfroe was among the rookie leaders in home runs when he was demoted on Aug. 18. He homered in Monday's game. In his first stint this year with the Padres he had 20 homers, 47 RBIs and hit .230 in 111 games.In 22 games for El Paso (regular season and postseason combined), Renfroe hit .395 (34-for-86) with five homers and 22 RBIs.

RF J.D. Martinez continues to get on base as he went 1-for-3 on Monday with a single. Martinez, who came over from the Tigers last month, is 26-for-62 with 11 homers and 22 RBIs over his last 15 games.Padres

RHP Patrick Corbin (14-13) fell short in his bid to set a career high in wins Monday. He lasted five innings and was charged with four runs, four hits and three walks, one intentional. He struck out three but was done in by allowing two Padres homers. "He just couldn't get into an early rhythm and he gave up the big three-run home run," manager Torey Lovullo said. "That kind of broke the game open in the first inning."

3B Jake Lamb had a hit in four at-bats in Monday's loss but no RBIs. That's a bit of a surprise as Lamb's 18 RBIs are the most by any player against the Padres this year.
