LF David Peralta was lifted from Monday's game in the sixth inning after experiencing tightness in his quad. Peralta had reached base twice, once with a single, before exiting. It was his career-high 145th hit in a season.

OF Aaron Altherr became the first player to hit a grand slam against Dodgers superstar Clayton Kershaw in a 4-3 win Monday night. Altherr, with the Phillies trailing 2-0 in the sixth, clubbed his 17th homer and second career grand slam to the upper deck in left field.

RHP Hector Neris allowed a solo home run but still registered his 22nd save in Philadelphia's 4-3 win Monday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Neris, who struck out the side in the ninth, has converted 16 consecutive save opportunities since June 28

3B/RF Nicholas Castellanos extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a fourth-inning double on Monday. He tacked on two more hits, lifting his season average to .270. Castellanos now has the longest hitting streak by a Tiger this season. James McCann had a 14-game streak in July and early August.

RHP Jordan Zimmermann threw a 40-45 pitch bullpen session on Monday without any issues. He's scheduled to start against Minnesota on Thursday. Zimmermann has been sidelined since Sept. 2 with neck pain. He received an injection six days later to ease the discomfort. Zimmermann, who is in the second year of a five-year contract, is 8-12 with a 6.18 ERA.

1B Miguel Cabrera served as the designated hitter. He went hitless in five at-bats, dropping his season average to .245. He missed Sunday's game with lower back stiffness. Cabrera has been nagged by back issues much of the season but he hasn't required an MRI recently, manager Brad Ausmus said.

2B Neil Walker was 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored against his original and hometown club. Walker is 24-for-86 (.279) with 13 RBIs since being acquired by Milwaukee. Against the Pirates this season, he is 14-for-40 (.350).

C Francisco Cervelli, on the DL because of right quadriceps irritation, is being shut down for the season, manager Clint Hurdle said. Hurdle said there is not enough time left for Cervelli to complete his rehab. Cervelli was on the DL four times this season. He hit .249 with a .370 SLG and .342 OBP, with 31 RBIs. He walked 32 times and struck out 65 times.

RHP Tyler Glasnow is scheduled to pitch in relief Wednesday and is expected to get another start this season, manager Clint Hurdle said. Glasnow, in his first start since June 9 and after a stint at Triple-A Indianapolis, allowed five runs, four hits, with six walks and three strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings Sept. 13 in a loss at Milwaukee.

CF Andrew McCutchen was 3-for-4 with three singles, accounting for nearly half of Pittsburgh's eight hits. McCutchen has hit safely in seven of his past eight games (11-for-33, .333).

RF Gregory Polanco was 1-for-4 with a two-out single in the ninth. But he turned that single into the final play of the game when he was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double. Polanco is 7-for-28 (.250) since coming off the DL.

RF Aaron Judge hit his 44th home run in Monday's win over the Minnesota Twins. Since 1962, Judge, Alex Rodriguez (54 homers, 2007, 48 homers, 2005) and Tino Martinez (44 homers, 1997) are the only Yankees to reach 44 homers in a season. He also became the fourth Yankee to hit at least 28 homers at home, joining Roger Maris (30, 1961) as well as Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

RHP Dellin Betances holds a respectable 3.02 ERA in 62 appearances but struggled in the eighth inning Monday, hitting a batter, issuing two walks and throwing a wild pitch while facing four hitters. It was the second time in three appearances Betances did not complete the eighth inning. He also was lifted with two outs in the eighth Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays at Citi Field. Betances said he was off with his mechanics, causing him to yank pitches and miss the strike zone. Said manager Joe Girardi: "It's hard to say. Yesterday he located extremely well and I thought it was a game that got him back on track and today it kind of reared its ugly head out, so we'll keep trying to figure it out."

LHP Aroldis Chapman has seemingly turned it around after a difficult August that saw him lose his closer's job, record a 9.00 ERA and allow home runs to left-handed hitters Yonder Alonso on Aug. 25 and Rafael Devers on Aug. 13. He needed 16 pitches to get the final five outs of Monday's 2-1 win after entering with the bases loaded. In his six appearances in September, Chapman has retired 21 of 25 hitters, struck out 12 while allowing two hits and two walks in seven scoreless appearances. Asked if there was a difference between now and August, manager Joe Girardi wasn't sure. "I don't see a lot of difference in him. We can try to look it, we looked at tape, we looked at a lot of things, and his ball, he's getting swings and misses now for whatever reason. I'm sure there's something different now, but from the naked eye, it's really tough to see."

LHP Jaime Garcia remains winless in seven starts for the Yankees but Monday might have been his best performance. He recorded eight of his nine strikeouts on breaking balls and held the Twins to one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. Mondaywas also a unique experience for Garcia, who pitched once for Minnesota on July 28 and was dealt to the Yankees two days later. Even though I was never in Minnesota, in the home clubhouse, I got traded both times on the road, those guys are great guys. Even though I was only there for a week, I came close to some of those guys, guys that have been around for a long time and they've got a great thing in the clubhouse, I really admire the way they do things over there, even though I wasn't there for long, I've got relationships with some of those guys."

OF Aaron Hicks (strained left oblique) continued taking swings via tee and toss Monday. He said he might be able to start taking batting practice on the field by the end of the week. Hicks began activities last week by running and throwing and could return by the end of the regular season. Hicks has missed a combined 53 games with two oblique strains. He was placed on the DL Sept. 3, a day after making a running catch at the center field warning track on Boston's Hanley Ramirez.

C Gary Sanchez took a foul ball off his left arm during a sixth-inning at-bat by RF Eddie Rosario. After taking the 91 mph fastball from RHP David Robertson, Sanchez was checked out by a trainer and manager Joe Girardi. Following the brief consultation, Sanchez stayed in the game.

C Francisco Cervelli will not play again this season. He sustained a left quadriceps injury in late August. With the Pirates out of the running for a playoff berth (14 games behind the second National League wild-card team through Sunday's games), it did not make sense to rush him back. As a result, the Pirates are shutting him down. "The reality is we've run out of time," manager Clint Hurdle said.Cervelli, 31, ends his season with a .249 average, five home runs and 31 RBIs in 81 games and 304 plate appearances. He is under contract through 2019 and will earn $10.5 million next season.

1B Joe Mauer went 1-for-4 and is hitting .396 (57-for-144) in his last 37 games since Aug. 10. His most notable at-batMonday was the three pitches clocked at 100 mph or higher with the bases loaded in the eighth against LHP Aroldis Chapman, who struck him out. "I've love to have that opportunity again, but he made his pitches," Mauer said. "He's one of the better pitchers in the game. You have to tip your cap."

2B Dustin Pedroia left in the fourth Monday due to a nasal contusion. He fouled a pitch off the plate, and it bounced into his nose.He stumbled away and went down to his knees, clutching the area around his nose. The Boston medical staff came to check him out, and Pedroia was able to walk off and left the game. He replaced by Brock Holt, who then doubled on the next pitch.
