Sun Sep 3 201706:26DH Victor Martinez, on disabled list since Aug
DH Victor Martinez, on the disabled list since Aug. 27 due to a second incidence of irregular heartbeat, has been declared out for the season and is scheduled to undergo a heart ablation procedure in the near future. "Then because of the medication he has to take following the procedure, he can't play the rest of the year," manager Brad Ausmus said. "We will transfer him to the 60-day (disabled list Sunday) to make a roster spot for (RHP) Artie Lewicki, who is pitching Monday. They expect Victor to be good for 2018." Martinez ended this season hitting .255 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs. "He told me he could begin workouts a week or two after the procedure," Ausmus said. "He made no indication at all that this would be the end of his baseball days. And I'd be shocked if it was."

DH Victor Martinez of the Detroit Tigers was placed on the disabled list Sunday after experiencing his second heart issue of the season. The Tigers said he will travel by car to Detroit for further examination once he is released from the Chicago hospital. Martinez also had an incident in June when he was hospitalized after experiencing a rapid heartbeat, dizziness and cold sweats. The Tigers also placed him on the disabled list on that occasion as he spent multiple days in the hospital. The 38-year-old Martinez is batting just .255 with 10 homers and 47 RBIs.
