Turner will start Sunday's game against the Brewers, the Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer reports.

Kyle Hendricks was anticipated to be the starter for the final game of the regular season, but with Hendricks sitting at over 180 innings this season (a career high), they decided to shut him down. This is bad news for fantasy owners, as Hendricks would have been an intriguing option, while Turner has a 6.98 ERA in 29.2 innings with the Cubs this season.

Turner lost Monday against the Blue Jays as he pitched six innings and allowed five runs (four earned), seven hits and one walk to go along with two strikeouts.

Turner allowed only one run in 6.1 innings in his last start, but he followed that up with a poor performance Monday. His stuff isn't overpowering, so he is likely to continue to have trouble stringing together impressive outings.

Turner won Monday against the Brewers as he pitched 6.1 innings and allowed one run, five hits and one walk to go along with seven strikeouts.

Turner has been pitching out of the bullpen of late for the Cubs, but stepped in for the injured Edwin Jackson Monday and posted an impressive outing. With Jackson not expected back anytime soon, Turner may have earned himself at least one more start.

Turner is expected to start Wednesday against the Reds, CSNChicago.com reports.

The team has yet to confirm, but Turner is not listed as being available out of the bullpen Saturday and thus appears destined to take Edwin Jackson's spot in the rotation. With an off day Monday, the Cubs will likely move Travis Wood up to start Tuesday on normal rest and turn to Turner on Wednesday. Turner gave up one run in two innings of relief Tuesday in his second outing with Chicago, and now sports a 5.77 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 22 appearances (12 starts) this season.

Turner will pitch out of the bullpen with the Cubs for the time being, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.

With both Kyle Hendricks and Tsuyoshi Wada pitching well for the Cubs at the two back-end spots of the rotation, Turner will have to bide his time in long relief until further notice. The 23-year-old was horrendous in both starting and bullpen capacities for the Marlins this season, but he's young enough to rebound from those woes and provide the Cubs with some long-term utility.

Turner was officially acquired by the Cubs on Friday.

Turner was claimed by the Cubs on Thursday and now the teams have officially reached an agreement to trade him in exchange for two minor league players in Jose Arias and Tyler Bremer. The team also designated Ryan Kalish for assignment to make room for Turner on the 40-man roster. The 23-year-old hurler could end up either in the Cubs' rotation or could pitch out of the bullpen.

Turner was claimed off waivers by the Cubs on Wednesday, Jim Bowden of ESPN reports.

Turner will either join the rotation for the Cubs or be the long reliever out of the bullpen. He posted a 5.97 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 78.1 innings with the Marlins this year, but the Cubs will look to get more out of the 23-year-old starter.

Turner lost his spot in the rotation when the Marlins acquired Jarred Cosart at the deadline but quickly gained it back when Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) hit the DL. However, he had a disastrous outing Sunday, allowing five runs on nine hits in just four innings. The loss dropped him to 4-7 on the season and raised his ERA to 5.97. With Turner off the 40-man, southpaw Brian Flynn was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.

Turner lasted only four innings Sunday against the Reds, giving up five runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out two. He also allowed three stolen bases, none of which were especially close.

For a pitcher hanging on for dear life in the rotation if not the majors, this was an especially disappointing outing. It could have been worse, as the Reds' Todd Frazier was caught by Turner attempting a delayed steal. He's a good bet to lose his rotation spot once Henderson Alvarez returns from the DL.

The Marlins acquired Cosart on Thursday, and the ground-ball specialist will presumably replace either Turner or Brad Hand in the rotation. Given that Hand's actually been decent the last few weeks, it would be surprising if Turner isn't booted from the rotation.

Turner struck out four and walked two in the outing, earning his second straight win since rejoining the Marlins rotation. The win moved him to 4-6 but he still owns an unsightly 5.69 ERA and 1.57 WHIP after struggling for most of the year. His next outing will come Friday against the Reds.

Turner was making his first start since June 11. He had been working out of the bullpen, but his struggles followed him there. He carries an ugly 6.03 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 48/19 K/BB ratio. Turner will take on the Astros in Houston when he takes the mound next.
