2B Dustin Pedroia (left knee inflammation) will run the bases during the Red Sox's upcoming road trip to Toronto, manager John Farrell said Sunday. Pedroia (.303, 6 HR, 54 RBIs) has taken part in fielding drills and batting practice since landing on the disabled list Aug. 12 (retroactive to Aug. 9). "The next marker ... is going to be as he aggressively runs the bases," Farrell said. "Once we get through that ... I think we'll get a better read on where's he at and a potential activation at some point in the near future." Farrell added that there is still no timetable for Pedroia's return.

2B Dustin Pedroia is expected to be out longer than the mandatory 10 days in his second straight trip to the disabled list with a balky left knee. "I don't have a return date," manager John Farrell said. "This is going to be longer than the 10 days, for one. But we would certainly look to put him through a couple of work days of baseball activity more than we did previously, which everything (last time) kind of pointed to the way he felt coming out of the one work day. We'll see how this unfolds going forward."

2B Dustin Pedroia was placed on the disabled list for the third time this season and second time with left knee inflammation. His last DL stint was because of left knee inflammation and it flared up after he was 0-for-4 on Wednesday as the designated hitter in Tampa Bay. Manager John Farrell said it's too early to tell if Pedroia will be out for the season. "There's nothing we have right now that suggests he won't be back to us," Farrell said. "There's been no talk of any other kind of procedure, anything that's similar to what he went through after last season. I felt like he was getting there after the work. Obviously, the irritation returned and he needs some more time at this point." Pedroia has not appeared in any game at Yankee Stadium this season and since the Red Sox return to New York Aug. 31-Sept. 3, it's possible he might miss every game in New York. This season, Pedroia is hitting .303 with six home runs and 54 RBIs in 86 games.

"There's been no talk of any other kind of procedure, anything that's similar to what he went through after last season. I felt like he was getting there after the work. Obviously the irritation returned and he needs some more time at this point."I don't think right now that's there's a date or a number of days that says he's going to be back in the lineup. Pedey will be back when he's first available and hopefully that's as quick as possible. We have to stay focused on what his... [More]

2B Dustin Pedroia was not in the lineup Friday because his left knee flared up following Wednesday's game. Pedroia was activated from the disabled list Wednesday and was 0-for-4 as a designated hitter but Farrell said there was some swelling and inflammation. He will be examined further by Boston-based orthopedic doctor Andreas Gomoll and Farrell said a DL stint is possible. Pedroia has yet to play in any games at Yankee Stadium as he missed the June series with a sprained left wrist. "Our goal was to get him some at-bats before this series," Farrell said. "He's shown that there's been a little bit of a pushback in terms of the reaction to it. Some swelling, some inflammation, so we're holding him out today."

2B Dustin Pedroia (left knee inflammation) resumed light baseball activities before Friday's game against the White Sox. If all goes according to plan, Pedroia (.307, 6 HR, 54 RBIs) could return from the 10-day disabled list Tuesday against the Rays. However, INF/OF Eduardo Nunez's hot streak at the plate could make for an overcrowded lineup. "A healthy Dustin Pedroia makes us better," and we're looking forward to him coming back as soon as possible," manager John Farrell said.

And I can't say that when he comes back he'll be pain-free, but ... felt like this was the best move at the moment." Pedroia last played Friday against the Royals, going 0-for-4.
