Fri Jan 30 201520:22Volstad signed minor league contract with Pirates
Volstad signed a minor league contract with the Pirates, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
The former first-round pick (16th overall in 2005) did not pitch in the majors last season for the first time since 2008, and instead spent the year posting dismal numbers in Japan and Triple-A. He may be afforded a chance to compete for roster spot in spring training, but Volstad owns a 4.94 ERA and 1.45 WHIP for his career and would need a lot to go his way to break camp with the big club.

Wed Nov 6 201315:11Angels sign Volstad to minor league contract
Angels signed RHP Chris Volstad to a minor league contract.
MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez broke the news. Volstad will receive an invite to spring training. It looks like a nice landing spot for the towering 27-year-old right-hander, as Los Angeles is thin in the rotation and became more so when they declined to tender Jason Vargas a qualifying offer. Volstad was pounded for 10 runs over 8 1/3 innings at the big league level this year and logged a 4.58 ERA across 127 2/3 frames at Triple-A. Volstad, selected with the No. 16 pick by the Marlins in the 2005 draft, owns a career 4.94 ERA and a 442/248 K/BB ratio over 703 2/3 career MLB innings.

Fri Mar 29 201320:10Chris Volstad earns final spot in Rockies pen
Rockies purchased the contract of RHP Chris Volstad from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Volstad earns the final spot in the Rockies' Opening Day bullpen by posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 4/0 K/BB ratio over 12 innings in the spring. With the pitching struggles that they have had in recent years, having another option in the bullpen capable of throwing multiple innings is a wise decision.

Thu Mar 28 201319:46Chris Volstad has lead for bullpen spot
The Denver Post's Troy Renck hears that Chris Volstad has a "slight edge" over Manny Corpas for the final spot in the Rockies' bullpen.
Volstad entered camp hoping to be part of the rotation, but, given how he's been used, it was clear that he was never really in contention to crack the starting five. He's put up a 3.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 12 spring innings, though, which appears will be good enough to land a long relief gig.
