SS Danny Espinosa had three hits and drove in two runs Monday. His average is up to .229 and he is among the league leaders in homers for a shortstop with 13.

SS Danny Espinosa drove in the Nationals' first run of the game Wednesday with a second-inning double, and he finished 2-for-4 on the night. Since June 8, Espinosa has posted a .340 average (16-for-47) with two doubles, five home runs and seven RBIs while scoring 14 runs in 14 games.

SS Danny Espinosa hit a solo home run Tuesday, his 13th of the season. The Southern California native, who grew up in Orange County and played college baseball at nearby Long Beach State, is batting .326 with a double, five home runs and six RBIs in his last 13 games.

It is always a treat to go out there," said Espinosa, who played in college at Long Beach State and was drafted by the Nationals. Washington manager Dusty Baker grew up in California and used to manage the San Francisco Giants. "The west coast has always been tough on players. There are a lot of distractions out there. I've seen the West Coast destroy teams," he said Wednesday. "It's no joke going to the coast."

The switch-hitter, batting righty against Adam Morgan, went deep for the eighth time in 15 contests and 10 of his last 14 hits have been for extra bases. Espinosa then had a key single in the ninth and scored the game-winning run as Washington won 5-4 over the Phillies.

SS Danny Espinosa belted his first homer of the year to cap a four-run fourth, a two-run shot that served as the difference in Washington's 5-4 win. Espinosa fouled off three 1-2 pitches before jumping on a meaty fastball that veered towards the plate's middle and launching it into the Cardinals' bullpen in right-center. For good measure, Espinosa made a nice turn on a ninth inning double play that erased a leadoff walk to Kolten Wong.

Espinosa (hamstring) is done for the season, CSN Mid-Atlantic's Mark Zuckerman reports.

It will require four weeks of rehab for Espinosa to be able to return from the slight tear of his hamsting, so his season is over. It will be interesting to see what his role is in 2016 with Ian Desmond likely leaving in free agency and Trea Turner and Wilmer Difo seemingly ready to step into significant roles in the middle infield. Espinosa had a .753 OPS against lefties and a .709 OPS against righties while playing above average defense this season.

Espinosa has a small tear in his hamstring, Chelsea James of the Washington Post reports.

Manager Matt Williams did not declare how long Espinosa might be out, but that type of injury could impact his availability for remainder of the season. If Espinosa does indeed miss some time, Trea Turner could see a few spot starts down the stretch.

Espinosa is dealing with a strained hamstring, Dan Kolko of MASN reports.

As such, Espinosa is not in Monday's lineup, and he'll undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the ailment. It appears as though the Nationals are expecting Espinosa to miss at least a few games, and further details will emerge following Tuesday's evaluation.

Espinosa was a late addition to Wednesday's starting lineup.

With Michael Taylor scratched, Bryce Harper was moved to center field, Jayson Werth was moved to right, and Espinosa was penciled in to left field. It marks just Espinosa's second career start, and fourth career appearance, in the outfield. After a strong first half, Espinosa is batting just .222/.268/.356 since the All-Star break.

Espinosa went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in an 8-5 loss to the Giants on Friday.

Espinosa got the start for the rested Anthony Rendon and capitalized with his 11th homer of the season. He has found a nice utility role with the Nationals, but his 82 strikeouts in 315 at-bats is simply too high to maintain a decent average. Espinosa will continue to provide solid power for a middle infielder, but he's unreliable outside of NL-only formats.
