Wood is one of the candidates to start in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

Manager Joe Maddon has called for Sunday as a "staff day," with Wood, Clayton Richard, Trevor Cahill, and Carl Edwards all possibilities to pitch in the second game of the doubleheader. Dan Haren will start the opener.

Wood retired all four batters he faced - including two by strikeout - against the Giants on Wednesday.

Wood has struggled a bit in August, so Wednesday's performance was a step in the right direction. He'll continue to be used as a low-leverage reliever the rest of the way.

Wood pitched 2.1 innings of relief in the second game of a doubleheader against the Reds on Wednesday.

Wood's experience as a reliever has been a mixed bag. Overall, it's been a good experiment, but he's had a few clunkers as well. Overall in relief he's thrown 28.2 innings with a 2.83 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 33:15 K:BB.

Wood picked up the win to move to 4-3, as he threw 3.1 shutout innings in relief of injured starting pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada.

Wood struck out four, walked three and allowed just one hit. He has allowed three runs in 13 innings (2.08 ERA) with 13 strikeouts since moving to the bullpen on May 16th. Given his success and his experience, Wood makes sense as the replacement should the injured deltoid that forced Wada out linger. Wada will be evaluated on Tuesday, so we'll know more about Wood's role then.

Wood pitched a scoreless inning against the Marlins on Monday.

Wood has been serviceable in the bullpen since he made the switch a couple of weeks ago. In five appearances, he has given up one run on four hits and four walks in four innings. He has struck out six in that span. Expect him to stay in the pen until the Cubs get desperate for another starter.

Wood will stick in the Cubs' bullpen for now, Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reports.

Wood recorded a save in the first relief appearance of his career Saturday, but it was only a byproduct of several of the team's late-inning relievers being unavailable for the opportunity. The lefty is most likely to see lower-leverage multi-inning situations out of the bullpen, which won't give him much value in most fantasy formats.

Wood picked up his first career save on Saturday, pitching a perfect ninth inning in a 4-1 win over the Cardinals.

Hector Rondon had pitched three straight days coming into the game, while Pedro Strop had pitched in two straight and given up two runs the night before and Jason Motte got the last two outs of the eighth inning Saturday. In short, Cubs manager Joe Maddon didn't have a lot of options available to him to close out this game, so don't read too much into Wood's sudden ninth-inning assignment.

Wood lasted just 4.1 innings Thursday against the Mets, giving up five runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out five and didn't receive a decision in the eventual 6-5 win.

Three solo homers and then a fifth-inning rally were enough to end Wood's day. He's been a stunningly prolific strikeout artist so far this year, with 39 in 37 innings, but it's hard to see that carrying forward, as Wood's never been known to strike a lot of guys out. All those whiffs have also come with a lot of struggles for the lefty, who now owns an ugly 5.59 ERA. He'll look to right the ship Wednesday against the Padres.

Wood struggled against the Brewers Saturday, allowing six runs in just four innings in the 12-4 loss.

Only four of the runs were earned, but that doesnt retract from the poor performance from Wood. It's a nightmare matchup for Wood as he really struggles against righties and the Brewers being one of the most righty-heavy lineups in the NL. Wood will look to bounce back in his next start Thursday against the Mets.

Wood (2-1) had his second no-decision of the season Tuesday against the Cardinals, allowing six earned runs on six hits and a home run in five innings.

This was Wood's worst outing of the season. In his four previous starts, he didn't give up more than three earned runs, but he has given up four homers in his past three outings. He'll get a second start this week Saturday against the Brewers.

Wood (2-1) allowed two runs on five hits while striking out nine and walking none in seven innings Tuesday to pick up the win over the Pirates.

Wood's only blemish of the game was in the fourth inning, when he gave up a two-run homer to Starling Marte, but otherwise, he was solid. He lowered his ERA to 3.04 and will take the mound again Monday at St. Louis.

Wood was originally scheduled to start Monday, but manager Joe Maddon made some rotation changes that resulted in Wood being bumped back to Tuesday. With a team day off scheduled for Thursday, Wood's two-start week will be pushed back for the time being.

A pair of early mistakes were taken out of the yard as Josh Harrison hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first on an elevated fastball before Starling Marte added a solo shot in the second inning. Wood struggled to get ahead of hitters consistently Tuesday, and needed 84 pitches to get 15 outs prior to his departure. He's scheduled to face the Reds in Cincinnati on Sunday for his next start.

Wood (1-1) turned in a dominant effort Wednesday against the Reds, striking out seven over seven shutout innings. He allowed just three hits and two walks.

After he couldn't get out of the fifth inning in Colorado to open the year, Wood delivered a much better effort at home. However, considering that he's delivered ERAs well over 4.00 in three of the last four seasons, Wood can't be expected to turn in performances like this on a consistent basis.

Wood's first start of the season will still come Friday, even though the rotation was shaken up a bit after Tuesday's game was postponed, ESPN Chicago's Jesse Rogers reports.

Wood is the only pitcher in the rotation who will keep his next scheduled start date, so his value for this week does not change. As a back-end starter slated to pitch in Coors Field against a lineup that put up 10 runs on Opening Day, avoiding Wood in most formats Friday would be advised.

Wood was named to the Cubs' starting rotation Friday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Despite some struggles in his final couple spring outings (seven earned runs on 16 hits in 9.1 innings), Wood was still able to edge out Edwin Jackson for a rotation spot. Jackson will pitch out of the bullpen to begin the year. Wood struggled to an 8-13 record and a 5.03 ERA last season, but his opponents' BABIP of .320 was more 40 points higher than his career mark (.278)

Manager Joe Maddon expects one pitcher to hold the fifth starter job outright, rather than have Wood and Edwin Jackson share the job.

Jackson had his best performance of the spring Sunday, giving up just one hit in a 4.2-inning stint, but Wood probably still has the edge in the race for the last spot in the rotation.

Wood gave up three runs and five hits in a loss to the Mariners on Wednesday and added a pinch-hit home runs Thursday against the Angels.

Normally a pitcher's hitting stats are hardly worth noting, particularly during the exhibition season, but it certainly can't hurt Wood as he's trying to earn a spot in the Cubs' rotation. As of now, it looks like he's ahead of Edwin Jackson.

Wood will start Wednesday against the Mariners and could be pitching for a spot in the rotation, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.

While Wood hasn't been great this spring, he might just be the last man standing. Tsuyoshi Wada and Jacob Turner are hurt, C.J. Edwards and Pierce Johnson aren't ready yet, and Edwin Jackson gave up eight runs Tuesday.

Wood gave up 11 hits to the White Sox on Friday, so he didn't exactly help his cause. He's given up a whopping 21 hits in 14.1 innings this spring, but he's kept his ERA down to a respectable 3.77 thanks to a 10:1 K:BB ratio.
