Sun Apr 24 202211:34Rich Hill Activated From Bereavement List, Starting Sunday
The Boston Red Sox reinstated left-hander Rich Hill from the bereavement/family medical emergency list on Sunday and returned right-hander Tyler Danish to Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. Hill will return to a starting role in the series finale on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays after not missing a start. The veteran southpaw was used as more of an opener in his season debut on April 12 against the Detroit Tigers, but he should be used in more of a traditional role in his third start of the season on Sunday. The 42-year-old lefty has allowed seven earned runs and 11 hits while walking three and striking out six in nine innings over his first two starts, and he'll be a bit risky against a tough Rays lineup on Sunday in fantasy.

Mon Apr 18 202221:50Rich Hill Takes Loss On Monday
Boston Red Sox left-hander Rich Hill allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings of work in an 8-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Monday. Hill struck out two and walked two in the loss, his first of the year. The 42-year-old served up a two-run homer to Kyle Garlick in the first inning and then another two-run shot to Jorge Polanco in the third inning to seal his fate. Hill now has a 0-1 record, 7.00 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and six strikeouts over nine innings of work in 2022. Hill will try to get on track next time out.

Mon Apr 4 202214:29Rich Hill To Open As Fifth Starter
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Rich Hill will open the season as the team's No. 5 starter. Kutter Crawford has also made the Opening Day roster after a strong spring performance. Hill will begin the year in the rotation, but pitcher Garrett Whitlock will remain stretched out, and he's all but certain to have an extended relief outing on Opening Day later this week. Hill, 42, will be eased into action to begin the regular season and will be piggybacked with Whitlock, which will obviously limit his fantasy ceiling in DFS. Over 158 2/3 innings for the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Mets in 2021, the veteran left-hander had a 3.86 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 150 strikeouts and 55 walks in 32 outings (31 starts).

Wed Dec 1 202121:40Rich Hill Reportedly Signs With Red Sox
According to a tweet from FanSided's Robert Murray, the Boston Red Sox have reportedly agreed to terms with free-agent starting pitcher Rich Hill. Hill pitched to a 3.86 ERA and a 4.34 FIP in 158 2/3 innings last season, registering 150 strikeouts while surrendering 55 walks. He'll give the Red Sox another rotation option to slot in after left-hander Chris Sale and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi.

Fri Oct 1 202114:15Rich Hill Wins Seventh Game
New York Mets starting pitcher Rich Hill made his final start of the season Thursday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks in five innings to earn his seventh win of the season. Hill struck out six batters. With a 3.86 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 150 strikeouts in 158 2/3 innings, Hill continues to contribute in the majors. He's only finished six innings three times since May 26, however, making him difficult to count on in fantasy, and that should continue to be true in 2022.

Thu Sep 30 202108:16Rich Hill To Take The Mound On Thursday
New York Mets starting pitcher Rich Hill will start Thursday's game against the Miami Marlins. He's being bumped up a bit as he was originally slated to make his next start during the team's upcoming series against the Atlanta Braves. The 41-year-old lefty has pitched well this month with a 2.70 ERA and 29 strikeouts over 26.2 innings. He draws a favorable matchup against a Marlins team he held to one run over six innings earlier this month.

Sat Aug 28 202110:47Rich Hill Works Five Innings In Loss On Friday
New York Mets starting pitcher Rich Hill went five innings in the Mets 2-1 loss to the Washington Nationals on Friday, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out eight batters. Despite picking up the loss, it was a decent performance for Hill (6-6), though it continued a trend in which he has not made it past the fifth inning since June 29. Of late, Hill is just not going deep enough in games to record wins and/or quality starts, significantly limiting his fantasy value. As such, Hill is useful in only the deepest of mixed league and NL-only formats, where he can provide limited innings and some strikeouts for desperate managers making a last-effort push.

Fri Aug 6 202100:38Rich Hill Doesn't Allow An Earned Run Thursday
New York Mets starting pitcher Rich Hill didn't allow an earned run in five innings against the Miami Marlins Thursday. One unearned run did score on three hits and one walk. Hill struck out three batters. This was a very strong outing for Hill, but it also underscores his limitations for fantasy purposes. Despite a very clean performance and a pitch count of only 80, Hill was pulled after five innings. If Hill isn't going deep enough to record wins and/or quality starts, he's hard to play in a fantasy lineup.

Sun Aug 1 202100:14Rich Hill Gives Up Four Runs To The Reds
New York Mets starting pitcher Rich Hill gave up four runs to the Cincinnati Reds Saturday on five hits and a walk in five innings. He struck out four batters. Most of the damage came via the long ball, as Hill yielded a two-run shot to Eugenio Suarez in the fourth inning and a solo shot to Kyle Farmer in the fifth. As with the Tampa Bay Rays before his trade to the Mets, Hill has appeared to lose effectiveness after the second time facing the opponent's batting order. This severely limits his ability to pick up wins and quality starts, thus placing him in the streaming category at best for fantasy purposes.

Sat Jul 31 202101:55Mets get Báez, Williams from Cubs for outfield prospect
NEW YORK (AP) — Javier Báez got his wish: He's headed to New York to play with Francisco Lindor. But first, the Mets are counting on their big-name newcomer to replace his good buddy at shortstop for a while. With the trade deadline fast approaching Friday, the NL East leaders acquired Báez and pitcher Trevor Williams from the Chicago Cubs for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong. Báez, a two-time All-Star and 2020 Gold Glove winner, gives New York an immediate fill-in for Lindor. The star shortstop, obtained from Cleveland in a blockbuster deal last winter, is sidelined with a strained oblique and not expected back until at least mid-to-late August. “I’m super excited. I couldn’t be happier," Lindor said. "I can’t wait for him to come out here and put on a show for everybody.” The flashy Báez, who can become a free agent after the season, is batting .248 with 22 home runs and 65 RBIs. He has a .775 OPS and 13 stolen bases in 16 tries, but also leads the National League with 131 strikeouts.... [More]

Sun Jul 25 202122:53Red Sox score 5 runs in 8th inning, rally past Yankees 5-4
BOSTON (AP) — Held hitless into the eighth inning by Domingo Germán and looking feeble, Alex Verdugo and the Boston Red Sox suddenly erupted for five runs and stormed past the New York Yankees 5-4 Sunday. Verdugo opened the eighth with a long double for Boston’s first hit. Later, Kiké Hernández slid home headfirst on Xander Bogaerts’ sacrifice fly with the go-ahead run to cap the rally. The Red Sox won for the 10th time in 13 games against the Yankees and reclaimed first place in the AL East, a game ahead of Tampa Bay. New York fell nine games behind Boston. Boston trailed 4-0 when Verdugo doubled to deep right, and Germán was lifted after the hit. Jonathan Loaisiga (7-4) relieved, and Boston broke loose with four straight hits. Hunter Renfroe had an RBI double, Christian Vázquez singled home a run and Hernández followed with an RBI double, cutting it to 4-3. Zack Britton relieved and pinch-hitter Kevin Plawecki’s groundout plated the tying run. Hernández hustled hard and beat right fielder... [More]

A look at what's happening around the majors today: ___ STAR STARTERS The White Sox and Brewers close a weekend full of impressive pitching matchups in Milwaukee with arguably the best of the bunch Sunday night. Lance Lynn (9-3, 1.94 ERA) starts for the White Sox against Brandon Woodruff (7-4, 2.04) in a duel of All-Star right-handers. Sat Jul 24 202117:53Mets newcomer Hill expected to start Sunday vs Toronto
NEW YORK (AP) — Mets newcomer Rich Hill is expected to make his debut for the NL East leaders on Sunday when New York plays Toronto at Citi Field. Mets manager Luis Rojas said Hill would arrive at the ballpark before Saturday night's game against the Blue Jays and throw on the side. The Mets acquired the 41-year-old left-hander in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday for veteran pitcher Tommy Hunter and minor league catcher Matthew Dyer. Hill went 6-4 with a 3.87 ERA in 19 starts for the Rays this season. He faced Toronto on July 11 and gave up three runs on four hits and three walks in five innings. Hill will be a much-needed addition to a starting rotation that has been depleted by injuries, most notably ace Jacob deGrom being on the 10-day injured list with tightness in his right forearm. Left-handed David Peterson had been expected to return sometime in August after being sidelined with an oblique strain, but the Mets announced Saturday they were moving him to he 60-day IL after... Sat Jul 24 202104:03LEADING OFF: Indians changing team name to Guardians
A look at what's happening around the majors today: ___ GUARDIANS OF THE GAME After more than 100 years, the Cleveland Indians are getting a new name — the team will be called the Guardians next season. The name change, which has its supporters and critics among Cleveland’s fan base, ends months of internal discussions triggered by a national reckoning for institutions and teams to drop logos and names considered racist. “We do feel like we’re doing the right thing and that’s what’s driving this,” club owner Paul Dolan said Friday. “I know some people disagree, but if anything I’ve gotten more and more comfortable that we’re headed in the right direction.” The organization spent most of the past year whittling down a list of potential names that was at nearly 1,200. Cleveland’s new name was inspired by the large landmark stone edifices — referred to as traffic guardians — that flank both ends of the Hope Memorial Bridge, which connects downtown to Ohio City. ADDING AN ARM The pitching-depleted... [More]

BOSTON (AP) — Rafael Devers hit two home runs, including a go-ahead blast in the fifth inning, to help the Boston Red Sox best New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole for the second straight time at Fenway Park in a 6-2 victory Friday night. Devers followed his two-run with a three-run homer in the seventh — the 100th of his career — to help Boston improve to 9-2 against New York this season. The Red Sox maintained their one-game AL East lead over Tampa Bay and increased their lead to nine games over the third-place Yankees. Yacksel Rios (3-0) got the victory, pitching two scoreless innings to cap a strong night from the bullpen after starter Eduardo Rodriguez left in the second inning after experiencing migraine symptoms. Cole (10-5) started strong for New York, but was pulled after fiving innings, giving up three runs off six hits, striking out eight and walking two.
