Uehara has been on the disabled list since early August, but he's finally reached the point of playing light catch. He still has a long way to go, but the veteran should be available for the beginning of the 2016 season.

The Sox announced last month that Uehara's season is over, and Friday's move simply removes him from the 40-man roster. Boston claimed right-hander Roman Mendez off waivers, and he'll assume Uehara's roster spot.
